Now that I told you I didn’t know what a seam gauge was I’ll admit that I haven’t had and formal classes in sewing. My mom taught me some, and the rest is self taught. Through watching videos I’m learning a lot of things that I’ve done weren’t done the correct way, although my garments did always turn out. I’ve made formals, and all types of things, but now I’ve been working on making things using the tools that make it easier.
Awesome presentation. Thank you. I have been sewing for a long time but it is so amazing that you can still always learn some of the finer sewing points that have long been forgotten.
Hi Melanie! I made two or three of this kind of skirt already and my daughter loves it. She even gets compliments from people. So thank you for the tutorial. However I’m thinking of making one for my oldest daughter who is 11 years old she’s about five feet tall and I would like to make one for myself and I’m five five. So.... how much fabric do you think for both of us need? Thanks.
💎You are an inspiration and incredible teacher! I can't wait to see more of your tutorials, I actually learned everything I needed to know to complete 4 YES FOUR half finished dresses, skirts and a jacket with ruffles at the waist hem! I need to watch a basic sewing machine tutorial and make these projects move a whole lot faster! You're awesome and have a skill that will always be of extreme value 💫
Hello Melanie, you have a wonderful channel. I am a subscriber of yours. I filmed seperated videos, and as I'm doing this for first time to make it in one video. Do You Think I can do it on RUclips editer, or this option it's not there? Trimming, adjusting and so on ??? Thank you
Love this one too! Guess I need to make another fabric store run soon lol! I made the first skirt in the skirt series last night and it was so easy! My daughter loves it! can't wait to try the others. One question, I see you pre washed the fabric for this one, is it bad if you don't?
I always prewash if it's apparel because it could shrink - these skirts are forgiving enough in the style that they will most likely be fine if not, but it's a good rule when sewing clothes ;)
The skirt looks really cute but it was very difficult for me. This was very hard for a beginner. I had alot of problems with the sizing. My daughter is 12 so I didn't cut the panel long enough. It kind of went down from there. I am just gonna turn it into a a straight line skirt. Maybe next time around
Not at this point :( These video aren't getting very good views and while I have never wanted to use that as a measurement for more videos, these have been very time consuming to create for sometime that isn't really resonating with people. Seems like 3 was enough ;)
hi! I have a silly question...I'm just trying to make a ruffle, but my thread literally keeps breaking. I don't know what to do, my ruffle is So long lol
The best way to gather is this. Set machine to largest zigzag stitch. Place dental floss under pressure foot. Zigzag over dental floss. It works great. No broken thread.
15:50 Try not to laugh, and I need to mention that I’ve been sewing for 46 years. I’ve always wondered what that metal tool was for, but I didn’t bother to find out. 😂 Now that I see how much easier it would be to use the seam gauge, instead of my ruler I’ll be using it.
the 6 x 24? I probably bought mine at joanns or walmart but amazon has them too for a great price. I have links in the description box under the video with links to the products I use in the videos. ;)
My sewign machine is so cheap and nasty I can't pull the thread like this at all. No amount of maintenance or tension changing stops the under side thread from looking like a night mare.
My machine IS clean thank you very much. My mother was a seamstress and taught me everything I know. I just have a very cheap and very old machine. Now if you will, please bugger off with your upsetting attitude... don't you know that being a bully was wrong? I thought THAT was common sense.
This video was really helpful ! I’m a textiles student and I’ve been interested in creating more personal projects recently. Your video was very clear and straight to the point, so thank you !
Miss you Melanie. You've taught me so much on the sewing machine.
She was so very talented! I learned how to crochet watching her tutorials
Do glad you kept her videos on here.!!!
Rip Mel🕊 still watching and learning from you !

Excellent instructions with a smile. My granddaughters will love a skirt! thanks Ma in Colorado.
Your video's are the best, thank you for explaining this so clearly!
Please keep the channel on!
This would fun to make longer and add a second ruffle for a dress! Great inspiration Melanie!
Awesome video can’t wait to try it.
Hi everyone! Excited to share this tutorial with you! This one is my daughters personal favorite ;) Enjoy!
😢 I miss you! You taught me a lot 💗
this looks really fun.
It is helpful to make sure the ruffle fits the skirt before you sew the ruffle into a circle and start pinning it to the skirt. Cute skirt!

Where’d you find the fabric. I love it.
so pretty! you made it look easy. TFS.☺
Love your dressmaking tutorials keep them coming, please!
so beautiful Melanie x x
Love it! Thank you Mel
How do you know the length of fabric you need in order to fit around the bottom of your skirt once it is ruffled?
As an alternative, could gather 2 inch hot pink gross grain or satin ribbon and attach on bottom of skirt.
Just a heads up when gathering a ruffle use the top thread by the bobbin thread and you won't believe how much easier it is to gather

Melanie Ham that's good to know, thank you! I'll have to wash the other fabric I got 😊
Wow this is so in depth and nicely instructed!!! Thank you so much :)
CUTE!!!
😊thankyou ❤

Love it 😍
Need to make one of these for my sister. Thanks!
Pretty skirt
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your video!!
Hi, Melanie. That pink skirt looks so cute.
what kind of sewing machine is that? It cuts the thread when you're done????
Purplekisses did you get a reply from her.
Because I would like to know too. What kind of machine she is using.
so my granddaughter is 1 yr old .....her waist is 18.5 and length from waist to knee is 8 or 9 inch so to make this skirt use those measurments?
The skirt looks really cute but it was very difficult for me. This was very hard for a beginner. I had alot of problems with the sizing. My daughter is 12 so I didn't cut the panel long enough. How did u decide the length of the ruffle ?
Very pretty. Isn't it a little long for her?
Notification Gang!!!
Is there a 4th skirt coming soon?
Not at this point :( These video aren't getting very good views and while I have never wanted to use that as a measurement for more videos, these have been very time consuming to create for sometime that isn't really resonating with people. Seems like 3 was enough ;)

Nice mam pls give tutorial for 34 waist and hip 38

Hi there! You said that this was a series of four skirts, I can only find three! Videos 1, 2 and 3? All 3 are great, didn’t want to miss one! Sally
Sally Rozier she said no in a previous comment.
If your daughters waist measurements was 23 inches and you cut 20 by 16 wouldn't the waist be to small after you add the elastic??
If u pull tension on your top.spool on top of machine..pull taught. Y will also get a ruffle. Lol so much easy
I have a ruffle skirt top
Where did you get that clear Ruler ?
the 6 x 24? I probably bought mine at joanns or walmart but amazon has them too for a great price. I have links in the description box under the video with links to the products I use in the videos. ;)
This was a great tutorial the only part I was a little confused on is your daughter's waister is 24 inch. And the fabric is 20?
How does that work
20x2 so actually its 40
❤️💗💕👍🌼
How old is your daughter for this skirt?
My sewign machine is so cheap and nasty I can't pull the thread like this at all. No amount of maintenance or tension changing stops the under side thread from looking like a night mare.
BrokenNail clean it then. I use a cheap machine. Daily maintenance is a must. Thought it was common sewing sense.
My machine IS clean thank you very much. My mother was a seamstress and taught me everything I know. I just have a very cheap and very old machine. Now if you will, please bugger off with your upsetting attitude... don't you know that being a bully was wrong? I thought THAT was common sense.
BrokenNail you said “nasty” that implies dirty. 🤷♀️
I am Australian, "cheap and nasty" is slang. I am sorry you got confused.
BrokenNail that’s horrible slang 😂
