I don’t even eat seafood (I’m vegetarian) I just like to watch Taku being all educational, environmentally friendly, enjoying the whole process of the food he makes, & being generally wholesome af ♥️👀
In Sweden there's the saying of "cooking a soup on a nail", meaning, making a dish out of nothing. You've made it clear that anyone can do just that! :)
Creating entertaining content must be pretty hard so the recent and frequent uploads are very much appreciated! Thank you Outdoor Chef Life! Thank you Taku and Jocelyn! #OCL ❤️❤️❤️
Y’all are the perfect duo. Love to see two amazing positive people doing what they love and are good at. Have so many notes in my field book from your experience. Appreciate your content very much man. God Bless.
Knife is life. Thanks for the knowledge Chef Taku. Appreciate your energy and time as well as your spirit. Seriously loving this channel and all of your enthusiasm for teaching. Thank you Taku.
I'm going to attempt some marlin fishing with my dad this coming may on Guam, it's very close to japan and learned alot from your videos from the last time I went fishing with him and I aim to impress.... I wish I had your filleting skills to break down a 400lbs marlin wish me luck. Gonna make some foraged food too from our islands shore like uni (didnt know I can eat those specific ones before i moved to socal so gonna have an uni bowl to make up for lost time) and kelp too for a bunch of things so thank you again for your time and wisdom @Outdoor Chef Life
There are many reasons why kelp would be far more sustainable than our ordinary farming techniques and other types of produce. Some examples: The entire kelp is edible so there is no wasted nutrients/fertilizers going into leaves, large roots etc; while just eating the small fruit produced. Kelp is also able to grow using the standard nutrient density of the ocean and uptake all the extra wastes (nitrates/ammonia, etc), so it can clean or shoreline. It has a high growth rate, and doesn't need to be killed and replanted. The list goes on, these are just a few points off the top of my head. I'm not comparing kelp to all other plants but kelp does have distinct benefits compared to many other stuff.
I love how genuinely you enjoy what you do and how you are always learning and improvising. It’s not like you know everything, you’re not afraid to figure it out. Nice job chef!
Thank you so much for considering what to wrap your foods in. I know waxed cloth or paper can be used as waterproof, but so far most people don't use it over plastic wrap. You're young enough that it matters, especially if one day you might have kids. Either way, you'll see the effects of what we do now 40 years out. Bless you for caring Taku.
Thanks for all the informative videos you make. I think I can speak for all of us that watch you when I say you giving us a lot of free game. I’d pay for the things you teach about foraging. 1,000,000x thanks.
i love the aesthetic, the quality of your videos over the past year has improved, your brand is growing and your dedication to your craft is inspiring. you got the right idea Taku, cracking a cold one with you in spirit brotha!
Was just watched a video from a fish with fish. And he actually mentioned how you are always cooking healthy and telling us to be careful with crab. But the scalp tissue just made look very interesting. I cook a lot of Italian food and you when you are making it with the cream I said to myself you forgot the butter and the garlic. Hyphy believe that any vegetable would pair well with butter and garlic and the cream and white wine sauce. Excelente my friend!

Even if I’m too busy too fully pay attention or watch I still like having ur vids play on the background bc both of ur voices are so nice to listen too and are calming :)
I have been fishing in California for 30 years and never once thought about eating kelp. Until now nice video I guess i'm goong to try this recipe! Good job!
You should get some waders. There water proof pants that go all the way up to your chest so you can stand in basically chest height water and stay dry. Good ones go for around 150 but there worth it
Axios just about any is good as long as you don’t go cheap with it. First pair I got were 20 bucks and they ripped but I got some more expensive ones and they were warmer, had pockets, and didn’t rip. It sounds dumb but if you spend around 130 bucks on a pair of waders they will probably be refundable but probably will last anyways so you won’t have to worry about it.
Kelp used to be harvested in California in the 60's. I remember that a boat was used with a horizontal rotating blade out front . They used the blade to cut the kelp 3-4 feet under the waves. The kelp can grow a few feet a day when the conditions are right.
Very cool and innovative! You said not healthy because of the cream but it's actually definitely Keto "healthy" which a lot of people are onto. Good stuff chef!
Just a little tip that may seem superstitious, but try stirring, pouring etc CLOCKWISE opposed to counterclockwise... You may be happy with results if your heart is there :) Love all your stuff though! On about a 14 hour binge so far haha
It would be so cool if there's an outing we can book (much like a tripadvisor type outing) that you can have a couple people come with you to help forage and get to eat what they forage.
I try to watch all of your videos 👏🏻 I want to go sea foraging extremely bad 👏🏻 next time I go to Cali I would love to go foraging. Even eat at the restaurant you work at! 😁 Edit: this is my favorite asmr, I love horticulture and it’s my dream to live off grid!
you should maybe think about doing a one day outdoor chef pop-up booth where you do a show and tell cooking. do you have the personality and you are really easy-going and friendly and explain things really well. that would be so cool. you could tell all your Instagram followers. do it in a place that is well populated and you could advertise your channel :-)
I have had Shrimp over Kelp It was very good Also it looks easy enough to harvest the Kelp So next time I get to Oregon I will try several dishes with it Salmon for sure
“knife is life” My best friend and I have been watching your channel for about a year. It would be so cool to own these knives to take on our future adventures.
We just switched over to reusable ziploc type bags so it's super cool to see the beeswax wrapper; pretty sure you're the first RUclips chef I've seen use it. Hopefully you can help start a trend!!!
My mouth was watering with the kelp pasta the only thing I would have added because you called it a pasta would be some fresh grated Parmesan cheese because you put cream to other than that my mouth was watering I think I've seen all of your videos and more wife and I torture ourselves especially when we're hungry watching your videos... I was born and raised in San Francisco and it looks like that's where you live maybe one day we will meet and I love how interactive you and your girlfriend are and give her a thumbs up double thumbs up for horror covici that she made with Rockfish on the homemade chips
Stuck at home bingeing on the tube! “Knife is Life” This is one of my favorite episodes! Wish we had kelp in Hawaii. Definitely want to try this dish! 🤙 ALOHAZ
At 15:52 when you pronounced water “whuter” that’s actually how they pronounce it on the Eastern Shore of Virginia! My grandfather has lived there all his life (he’s 94) and he pronounces water that way
couple product questions...your hats {btw, it was weird seeing you in a baseball cap), and those plates...great episode...huell howser did a calif gold segment on kelp harvesting in the monterey bay, but i don't think the kelp necessarily went for food products...
Dude I just discovered you last week and I LOVE your videos! I like learning the information ie about the calcium; women tend to be deficient in calcium and I'm lactose intolerant so I've always wondered how I should be getting my calcium! Eat more kelp! I'm dying to go to the beach and forage but gotta wait for these wildfires to end and the air to clear. Bay area love!
Dude, I maybe gotta farm this down here in Costa Rica. Not much kelp where I live. Love your videos. Finally got some Uni during low tide in the tide pools! Thx for being awesome :)
I think that tool is called a cultivator, but there's another tool called a spading fork that might work well, in your hands almost too well lol. I'm in San Jose and not having a car, takes me *hours and hours* to get to a beach, so I love your videos.
Outstanding! Kelp vs. cucumber? Not even close! Kelp grows wild, with no help from man. Cucumbers, not so much. I wonder if you could run kelp through a pasta cutter?
Outdoor chef life could make rocks looks delicious.
Ya
And
Yeah gotta admit Taku could go to the beach and boil a flip-flop and everyone will want to eat it.
That’s crazy
Magic chef🍹
Legend says that whatever this man touches, it’s delicious either way
Probaley tastes like shit plays beer honest
I don’t even eat seafood (I’m vegetarian) I just like to watch Taku being all educational, environmentally friendly, enjoying the whole process of the food he makes, & being generally wholesome af ♥️👀

"SASHIMI TIME" I've seen people eat whole fish that size and really thought you were gonna do it.. haha
I wouldn't but it almost slipped and fell into my mouth
I kind of screamed and made my fiance jump at that part...

Always looking forward to Taku Tuesdays 😎

Looks absolutely amazing taku! Keep it up!
I don't know how many times I have watched this such a great video Taku! hope to see more kelp videos in the future.
Yay for Miss Clammy Gonzales
your vids are showing how much you care about going full time. of course your girl gets alot of cred. come to southern Oregon. later
3:40 when he said “oh no, it’s empty inside” I felt that
same tho
Kelp is good for cows too. It reduces the cow’s methane production by 80%. Video was awesome! In other words, nothing has changed.
That looks delicious Taku. Always enjoy watching you and Jocelyn cook. Thank you for sharing.
I love how you continue to make sustainability a big message on this channel! That beeswax "plastic" wrap is really cool!

Nice slow mo footage at 10:20 I can almost see the clams smiling as they are being tossed in the air.
That slo-mo was on point!
Jay B you mean screaming
@@313eARTh313 ahem.. I can hear the clams screaming for mercy as they are being tossed in a kelp death roll, with a touch of cream.
This guy is not just surviving but living it every day
Good job bud
Great content as usual. Always look forward to your videos.

I have some Simms waders I bought recently. What are some great boots to get also???
Tbh for what he’s doing hip waders would do find
Knife is life. I grew up fishing the SF bay area. Nice video!
Have you thought about making a cook book with all those awesome recipes from your videos. I would definitely order one.
Kelp used to be harvested in California in the 60's. I remember that a boat was used with a horizontal rotating blade out front . They used the blade to cut the kelp 3-4 feet under the waves. The kelp can grow a few feet a day when the conditions are right.
I wanna see Matty Matheson, brad Leone and taku to go fishing together.
lets make this happen!
Taku is just not weird enough for that lineup. Brad and Matty are just....bizarre.
MrAcuta73 Watch how you talk about my husbands! 😎
would probably be pretty awkward lol
Yep. Kelp is not only an abundant food source, but also, along with algae an abundant carbon neutral crude oil source.
Very cool and innovative! You said not healthy because of the cream but it's actually definitely Keto "healthy" which a lot of people are onto. Good stuff chef!

Wow delicious Kelp sounds fantastic 😊 thank you for your awesome videos 👍
Nice to see a western application for kelp -- especially since I don't digest soy well.
Omg...that's so unfortunate
It would be so cool if there's an outing we can book (much like a tripadvisor type outing) that you can have a couple people come with you to help forage and get to eat what they forage.
Absolutely love seeing how much the video production quality has increased since you started! Keep up the good work guys!!
I bought the kelp pickles from the place in Alaska. Since then, I have bought 6 of their hot sauces, you should get one to try, great on fish
From barnaclefoods? I have a bottle but almost empty. It's so good and their salsa is also killer!
"knife is life" I like that you promote sustainability.
Big ups on your focus on sustainability and the environment
Love the slow motion, the close up shots and the music! Great video. Just wish i could taste it...looks delicious!!
Great video as always
edit: great camera work while you were cooking Jocelyn is very skilled at camming and clamming. lol
That Kelp dish looks so DELICIOUS, I have to give it a try! Thanks again you two for another awesome video.
I've been a fan of Barnacle Foods for a few years now, never thought kelp curry Pickles would be as good as they actually are!

California has the good konbu, which you can harvest, and it'll grow back. Some places, like Vancouver, has konbu that dies if you cut it.
Such a healthy yet delicious meal, good one, Taku san.

Indeed. Great for flavoring instant ramen too.
