I had been struggling a lot with these two tenses for years before I watched your video. I was searching for videos related to precise differences between past continuous and past perfect continuous tense when I found yours. I specially love the way of your explanation👌
- I had been watching this video for 8:15 minutes when my phone's battery died .
- i was watching this video when ads popped up
I think you should say : " I had been watching the video when the ads popped up " because your action of watching was interrupted. You use past continuous if the action continue when an action happen
Excellent😁
@@mehdiazaz7669 there is no duration in the second sentence, so the second sentence is correct. Both are correct.

@@tarikumolla9318 5:37 god im confused
If you choose "for...." option, it's a contradiction because it means you were still doing it even when you watched the video and you found it "brilliant".

I've been studying English for 10 years since primary school, I visited so many courses but I still didn't get what's the point of every single grammar, but once I watched your video my issue about that grammar already gone. Thank you so so much. I think I'm not that stupid, I think it just because the way my teacher teached me in school is very bad.

Greg you are the best! I had been learning english in a bad way, when I discovered your channel.
Great explanations, Greg! In Canada, we use simple past most of the time and add explainers instead of using past perfect continuous! HAHAHA!!!

Hello, your lesson is intriguing and extremely clear. I just would like to have a clarification about past simple continuos: it is correct to say that the short action occurs while the continuos action is going on and that the short action not necessarily interrupt the longer one?
Thank you in advance
hi Greg,
your videos are brilliant, they are very useful and easy to understand/very clear explanation.
I have a Q: what is the difference in meaning between "It was raining when i left the house" and " it had been raining for 2 hrs when i left the house". as i understood in both examples it is was still raining when i left the house, so whats the difference, is it just the duration of time mentioned in the 2nd example?
Thanks and best regards
