    The new Lords of the Fallen had a rough launch, but man, I finally played through it last month and did the umbral ending. All I've got to say is, wow, what an underrated, AWESOME GAME! The weapons, armor, and spell variety are great. The bosses are really cool, and the umbral experience can be sweaty AF 😂! There are some issues in the late game with enemy variety, but all in all, I loved it!

  • @TheOneGreat
    @TheOneGreat 6 месяцев назад +7

    I think Umbral is fine. You're supposed to leave it fast and look around with your lamp. After a myriad of patches it's very good apart from the lack of enemy variety and weapon movesets. I think you're comparing it way too much with Souls.
    I agree with the stupid lunge with every swing, though. That's such a stupid decision, especially if one of the first areas is scaffolding at a cliff side.
    Really hope we get a more polished part 2 with more Umbral stuff. The lamp mechanic is so good.

    On my first playthrough as I write this, and I do not understand the hate. I absolutely love this game. The interconnectivity of the map is amazing and how the world works with Axion and Umbral takes me all the way back to Soul Reaver. The art style and sound design is stunning, and found myself more than often to just stare into the distance and listen. The fast paced movement in combat feels good. Love the mix of the combat from Sekiro with Dark Souls/Elden Ring. What an aboslute gem this is.
    Edit: I actually haven't encountered any bugs but very few graphical glitches. And no crashes what so ever. So I guess they managed to fix most of it.

    Can’t say I agree with your point about the umbral realm. I think forcing the player into umbral to progress shows a puzzle element. And for trophy and item hunters like me it’s an added challenge to double over everything to make sure you can be the best undead loot goblin you can be. I love this game, the biggest complaint is the bugs - and the pvp matchmaking - and yeah, enemy diversity could be better. Still enjoying the hell out of it though.

    My loving family got this for me for this past Christmas and I don’t regret it at all despite what some or even many criticize the game for. Yes it ain’t gonna be no Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Demon’s souls or any of the Dark Souls games, but does it really need to be? Trying to compare this game will only take away the unique identity and charm this game still has. Maybe not perfect but far from a bad game. The world always looked very interesting to me and the ability to travel from the living world to the dead world and back seamlessly is a huge highlight. Plus it’s not like the devs gave up as they are and always will be hard at work to keep updating the game for the long haul. So the naysayers (not including you of course 😊👍) can say what they want but this game to me still holds up in its own right.

    This game is actually amazing... I never played at launch but the dev's are truly putting in work and want this game to succeed, performance is not an issue. Hot take, you're just hoping on the hate train, literally every example shown was a bug, glitch, or just pure noobish mechanics on your part (panic rolling being a big one, in all fairness.... GIT GUD LUL) gameplay is actually solid and feels really nice but if you took the time to review the game on a non-bias view you'd probably see that under the bugs they had at launch lies a true diamond in the rough. I expect with more frequent patches and future DLC this game will be a well polished gem.

    I've played through the game a couple of times, and I'm sure I'll play it again at some point, I actually liked this game better than Lies of P. It's certainly not perfect, but I'm a sucker for a world that rewards exploration, gives me the ability to sword and board, and or use magic, and has a ton of different weapon types. One big problem is that this game was compared to Elden Ring, and nothing is Elden Ring except Elden Ring, that game is a culmination of a decade of genre defining games, there is no reasonable person that should have expected this game (or any game really) to be on that level.

    The weapon move-sets are the one big disappointment in the game. Since they’ve ironed out a lot of the issues the game had I launch, I think it’s very solid all around. People tend to be very hyperbolic about how much they dislike this game. For some reason acting personally insulted by it. I think it’s all over exaggerated and disingenuous for the most part. Not saying people dont actually dislike it. But people seem to lean into it being horrible because it’s kind of the popular thing to do. It’s objectively a good game. Not great. But good. Horrible? 9:31 you got to be kidding saying Elden ring wasn’t as numerous at reusing/reskinning bosses into normal enemies? Elden Ring reused tons of bosses with little changes (element change on some) and turns tons of bosses in challice dungeons into common enemies in endgame. Watchdog cat stature being the worst offender. Pumpkin head, bellbearing hunter and shaded castle boss, abductor virgins, crucible nights, Farum Azula enemies, red wolf of radagon. Misbegotten red hair enemy guarding 2 of the legendary weapons (grafted sword and holy version of moonlight Greatsword…. And many more.
    If you 100% Elden ring which I’ve done many a handful of times solo and co-op. Elden Ring is a far worse offender than Lords of the Fallen. I agree with you initial point about reusing often minibosses (no main story bosses …mainly midzone or side zone in LotF)
    It would be nice if both of those games didn’t do this… I just wanted to point out as I’ve played them both 100% multiple times….. I noticed it much more in Elden Ring. It’s probably because it’s so much bigger and there are so side caves/catacombs/tombs to fill… therefore more instances of it occuring.
    If you compared them factoring in length to 100% it’s probably a similar amount of times.
    I agree with most complaints. The updates seriously improved many issues with some remaining. I think it was successful enough that when they make sequel which they announced… I have a ton of confidence. The improvement from 1sr to second game was massive.
    Definitely worth playing on Gamepass or buying discounted now. Co-op experience in souls game is second to none (seamless).

    It a tough world to figure out, with umbral. You need 'walkthrough' clip, to help you gain confidence in WHERE you at and WHERE you going. Once you know or are fairly confident about what you need to do to advance story, you will find umbral not that scary. You have to limit variables. Cuz. If you not know where you are, umbral clock to red phantom ticking, plus you have more mobs to kill, and you thinking about dying and having to do everything over again, and if you looking for the stone 'gargoyle' get you out of umbral, plus what objective you have to do while in umbral, anxiety just might create an untimely death, all by itself. So. First playthrough gonna be rough. If you want best 'guide' out there, FightinCowboy have walkthrough, also for achievements and umbral, more difficult ending. If you a person, feel you have to prove you can do everything alone, this clip apply to YOU. Boss difficulty in NG+, snowball to like 5X difficulty, first playthrough.

    I dunno. I think the endings were appropriate for what the game was going for.
    You, the player, are a pawn. The game even calls mankind such in the beginning of the game. And we remain such throughout the entirety of the game.
    Also, it looks like the ps5 crashes far less now.
    Edit: it’s also miles better than the first game. I really liked this one, but goddamn do I loathe the first lords of the fallen. That jump in quality alone is worth of praise.

    This game had so much potential. I played it from launch, and despite all the bugs and issues I got all the endings and majority of the weapons then bam, they stripped us of our maxed out weapons to push us into multiplayer (that had a broken netcode and was subject to constant frame drops) to get our upgrades back all so they could maximize player retention. Idk what the game is like now and I have no intention of ever revisiting. I’d rather play ds2 over and over than this shit lmao

    For me this game is the closest any soulslike has gotten to Fromsoft games because just like those there is a couple absolutely infuriating moments along the way (cough cough, armoured dogs, cough cough), but when you're in the zone the sense of flow is impeccable. Except Sekiro, that game is peak for 100% of the time

    This guy just sucks at the game - only real problems are the glitches, having to manually pick up your souls, and enemy placement. Just because it’s a souls like doesn’t mean it has to be exactly like dark souls…

      Yeah he straight up says the Parry mechanic sucks. And its kinda required to play the game properly.
      The parry is no worse than Lies Of P's, its close to Sekiro tightness and its FAR BETTER than Dark Souls/Elden Ring parrying.
      He just sucked and it made his playthrough frustrating so he's projecting that by calling it a bad game.

    Couldn't go more than 10 hours with this one, neither could my friend. We were so hyped because the world looked amazing in the trailers and the artwork too... and then 90% of the game ends up feeling awful. I don't know if there is any modding community around this one, but if there is, someone should make a 'lotf made gooder' mod, just making everything thats wrong with it better. Then I'd play it again

  • @kamelyun58
    @kamelyun58 5 месяцев назад

    The game could have some improvements, but if it was as close to dark souls as people wanted then they'd be complaining that it's too similar or a lazy copy. I think it's important to judge soulslikes as their own game rather than comparing. This is INSPIRED by dark souls, it's NOT dark souls itself. I really like the ubral situation because it forces you to be on your toes and act fast. That's literally the whole point of even having a second more dark dimension. A lot of criticism it's getting is fair but a lot of it also isn't fair because it's separate from dark souls.

    Really good video, but I have to disagree with your comments on the endings as you seem to be ignoring the religious influences in your arguments. You said in Adyr's ending you become second in command and gain power, a tangible reward and that's why it's the best, something you can see and measure to an extent, which makes sense for the in game equivalent of the devil basically. Seeking immediate and temporary material gains.
    With Orius being the equivalent of a god in game, that ending seems to be more like you've completed your tasks of faith and have been accepted into the in game equivalent of heaven. A holy and faithful life isn't rewarded or measured with tangible goods or power.
    The Umbral ending is similar but through the lens of Lovecraft in that the reward is incomprehensible to mere mortals. To us, unable to understand that sacred and ancient knowledge, it looks like getting eaten by a giant eyeball with teeth, but that's because we have no idea what comes next and are incapable of understanding it. It could be infinite pleasure, pain, and power like something from Hellraiser which you rightly brought up. I think the influences and religious parallels are strong enough throughout the game to be inherent in the endings too.
    I'll still definitely agree that the fight against Adyr is terrible and that the cutscenes being so short only to be text on the screen is really disappointing, but I also think there's more value to be found in what is there when taking the influences and context into account than what you've made seem. Still a really good video though and looking forward to more! Keep it up!

    Like @Monster3Games said. Stop comparing with DS games and you'll enjoy it more for what it does do well instead of wishing it was more like a DS game while saying 'I don't mean to compare but...".
    You literally contradict yourself several times with saying that it's souls like and then comparing it directly (Key word being LIKE).

    What killed me with this game was the combat design in-and-of-itself. The dodge rolling is weird, attacking is weird, blocking and parries are weird...I don't think there is any fixing a game that is just fundamentally flawed. Sucks, too, I think its level design and art style are really cool and I wish I could just explore it more, but I just cannot deal with this awful combat system.
