    This advice applies best to the original version of TLOU2, as some settings have changed in the Remastered version. I would love to get a PS5 and release an update to this video, but I'm not sure I can truly justify purchasing one yet.
    If YOU want to put out a video discussing aiming settings in TLOU2 Remastered, then go for it! If you put one out and link this video in your upload, then I'll put a link to your video in this comment if I think it's done well!

      Unfortunately the Remastered version adds a slight bit of latency when aiming. I’ve done a lot of testing between the 2 versions, especially since I prefer motion controls (which was almost a nightmare when moving over to the remastered) and the ps4 version definitely feels snappier than the remastered version. I’d love to try No Return with the snappiness of ps4 Part 2

Now that The Last Of Us Part II has been officially remastered, I'm looking at the settings and they’ve been altered quite significantly. The circle represents the spread of the aim. The wider the circle, the less accurate the shot will be. But the circle represents anywhere the shot CAN land, which means it can land outside of the center. So just because your target is inside of part of the circle doesn't guarantee the shot will land on your target. The target has to be fully inside that circle to guarantee that. However, because there IS a spread, using the dot is less precise, since you can have the dot aligned with the target and the shot can spread outside that dot, potentially missing.
    Personally I do like some acceleration as I do think we often press the stick a little too much at the start and acceleration helps control the start of the aim a little closer to what our mind expects, and is also better when you have a good pre-aim. Kind of like how when we do animation, you need a bit of a smooth transition at the start or it will feel wrong. Our minds just expect that kind of transition, and so not having that can be a problem. The analog nature of the stick helps solve that partially, but not totally. I might not use full acceleration, but some is probably okay.
    The ramp setting I think will vary significantly depending on what sensitivity you use, because if you have a higher sensitivity, you'll want a slower minimum speed to balance it out. Kind of annoying that it does those jumps though instead of doing a smooth analog transition.

    • @scarbles
      @scarbles  4 года назад +9

      The spread is the same regardless of the reticle type

    • @AndyGilleand
      @AndyGilleand 4 года назад +27

      @@scarbles Yes I know, but if you don't use the circle you don't know where the spread probabilities are, that's what I'm saying. So just because the center dot is on the target, doesn't mean the bullet will land exactly there. The circle does a better job illustrating that I think. Especially if you have a tendency to fire very quickly after drawing as the spread is wider at the beginning of the aim, or if you use guns that have wider spread like the shotgun a lot.

    • @scarbles
      @scarbles  4 года назад +15

      @@AndyGilleand I see where you're coming from. Also, the circle doesn't represent the max discrepancy. It's about 3x the max discrepancy, with the bullet landing either on the center, 15% from the center to the circle, or occasionally 30% from the center to the circle

    Your comment about the ain assist and not being able to develop consistent muscle memory brings about a key point in my mind; the development team went really into getting the desperation out of every single encounter. Different every time, protagonist is a kid with chucks on so the wonkiness if the controls almost serves to groom the players experience toward missing shots and having to find or craft more ammo, raising the tension even further. I'll admit, I thought I was loosing my mind when I would jump the trigger and miss my shot. It's almost like real life if you're not trained to break the trigger on target and you pull to one side.

    I just recently looked over my setting and reset to default, and was confused about aim acceleration and ramp power, and referred to this video again after years. Great breakdown for these settings that I’m sure confuse most people. I’ve been gaming my whole life and never have I ever been confused with aim settings. The fact that the default for acceleration is 10, is insane. It’s almost like naughty dog wanted casual gamers to struggle, that sh** messes up you aim so bad 😂 and most people don’t even touch their settings other than sensitivity. This has probably frustrated so many people to the point where they only play on normal or just quit the game entirely

    Beautiful video!
    It’s funny. In my first play-through, I remember hesitating in the garage before pushing the stick to control 19-year-old Ellie. I knew it was a before and after moment, a point when I had never played as this version of her and a point when I had. It may seem silly or overblown, but I treated the whole first time like that because there’s only one.
    But I remember it feeling weird when I moved around her room. Sluggish. It took me out of the game and felt like molasses. When I figured out the look sensitivity and jacked it up to 10, it felt much better to me. I thought the same would be true for aiming. I don’t know why I didn’t experiment more with it over the past year. Your video made me hungry to go back and play with the settings. Wish me luck!

    Can we get an updated version of this for the remaster? The values go all the way up to 100 now instead of 10

    Wow! Thank you soo Soo much for this. I really appreciate all of your in site an explanations. Even the "simple" ones. Bcuz I didn't know what some of them where? Also, I'm a terrible shooter and I had no clue what changing those settings did? And for the life of me I could never find the lock on target feature. I've used that in the Uncharted games. So, I guess I've been practicing what you called muscle memory? That's a good definition actually. I think for your 1st tutorial you did absolutely wonderful. Keep up the awesome work an God bless! Happy gaming.

    Thank you so much for this video, it explains why I never really felt in control when playing this. When ever I went back to the first game I felt like my aim was god like. then would go
    back to the second one and didn't understand why it felt so floaty and inconsistent. And by the way, you have a lovely soothing voice

    Gyro aim is SO good and underrated. Once you get used to it, it's really rewarding. That bit of fine-tuning it provides feels damn near as good as mouse aim, but like, from the comfort of a couch

    Highly recommend motion sensor aiming. I just replayed both TLOU games with it and it's much more precise once you get the hang of it.

    The circle reticle is much better because it shows the bullet’s spread, which is affected by the guns accuracy.

    2 years later and still super useful. As a console player I had no idea I was playing with this disability.
    With the hbo show running i'm practicing the aiming again for factions 2 so this is a great help thank you.
    Oh and by any chance could you recommend aim settings to simulate TLOU1 aim? That's what i'm used to anyways lol

    Thank you so much for this video because I was having a time with default settings and understanding the advanced mechanics and control settings. This has helped my gameplay so much and I’ve since then applied gyro-aiming, which is also a game changer for precise shooting for someone with heavy thumbs! Lol
    Love your work! 🙏🏾
