    related to 'nutrient deficiency' is this - if a vegan gets sick (mild to serious), people generally blame it on the diet! (if an omnivore gets sick, most folks won't question the role of their diet in their illness...which, imho, is actually more likely to cause chronic health issues).

    Regarding #3 - this also does not take into account the fact that animals in the factory farming industry cannot free themselves, they do not have the opportunity to flee from danger, they are prisoners waiting for death. They are held captive until the time a human causes their death, born simply to die. Much different circumstances then mice/rabbits living in a field, where they could potentially free themselves from the danger.

    I’ve been vegan for almost 25 years now. This is how long I’ve been hearing these bull arguments! Who’s ever seen news articles about vegans dying as a result of a bad diet? How about the other way around? In any case, I do actually care about the animals, and I don’t see why this is something to be laughed at. There are worse things one could be guilty of.

      Vitamin A in a Carnivore Diet
      Carnivores obtain vitamin A from animal sources, such as liver, eggs, and fish. Unlike herbivores, carnivores do not need to convert carotenoids into retinoids since they consume preformed vitamin A. Therefore, a carnivore diet is an excellent source of vitamin A for maintaining healthy vision. If you looked for truth rather than "gotcha" moments your life would be much richer.

    To add to some of your points.
    The massive field monocropping only really got going in the 1930s and 40s with the advent of broad leaved weed herbicides, which meant intensive grain farming on the same fields year in year out. It also led to massive artificial fertilizer usage because the soil became quickly depleted. All in all it was not a good change and very destructive. Before that a lot of fields were small and bordered by hedgerows and copses etc, the preferred homes of small mammals that would venture into the field to feed. But the monocropping also encouraged farmers to remove the hedgerows and copses to make massive fields that could be harvested with bigger combines and the massive bailers. Everything became bigger and more mechanized. The small mammals also had to adapt to living in the fields as their preferred natural cover disappeared and so , with no where to run to, were more likely to get bailed up in the harvest, which was also not good for grain quality, you'd think!! However what the massive increase in grain production promoted was not actually more food for humans, but it drove the meat and dairy industries as most of the increase was directed towards animal feed. The Pont about a vegan diet is that instead of having to grow enough food to feed , last count, 90.2 billion animals in the meat industry per year, we would only need to grow enough to feed 8 billion people, so not only massively reducing crop production, but allowing us to return to more environmentally sustainable crop production methods, more diverse, and better for the soil, but there could be a massive rewilding of land, the preferred habitats of small mammals anyway. A vegan world would massively reduce the need for pesticides, artificial fertilizers and crop deaths of small mammals in desperate need of a better habitat.
    And in terms of privilege, it is the privileged lifestyles driving environmental breakdown and climate change, and at the head of this destruction is the meat dairy and fishing industries. Most places with poor subsistence lifestyles, are mostly predicated on and dominated by plant based food, with meat seen as the requisite of privilege. It used to be something to aspire to as people hauled themselves out of poverty. And indeed where you may have developing world fishing villages etc, these places are profoundly impacted by commercial fishing. In fact it is the poorest in the world who suffer most from the environmental destruction wrought by our massive commercial meat, dairy and fishing industries. If you want to address world hunger, going vegan is one of the best things you can do as an individual.

    No one would assume I'm vegan by the way I look. I've always been a very large man and although I have lost weight in the last 5 - 6 years since going vegan, it was only the excess pounds that were shed and I'm still as "big and strong" looking as I always was. I definitely feel stronger than I did when I was eating animal products and processed foods.
    I also liked that you talked about the reaction some people have in a situation like a social gathering when alcohol is being freely (excessively) consumed and they find out you're not a drinker. I haven't had an alcoholic drink in over 20 years and not because I had an issue with it, just that I never enjoyed how it made me feel and how it negatively affects the lives of others. I have had so many encounters with people who love to create some kind of conflict over the fact that I choose to live a sober lifestyle because, as I would agree with you, it might force them to evaluate their own behavior and why it is they enjoy getting drunk in the first place.

    Another thing that people get wrong about vegans: they think veganism is a diet. It is not a diet, it is a philosophy aimed at reducing animal suffering as much as possible. The eating style (the “diet” side) is just one element. Vegans also don’t wear leather, fur, they don’t buy cosmetics tested on animals etc.

    • @emmaDaugaardJensen
      @emmaDaugaardJensen 4 месяца назад

      I'm not saying you are wrong, but i think more if it as you can be vegan in what you eat alone(diet), and then the way you live(lifestyle) one focuses on the diet, and the other on all the components of living like we never domesticated animals for our own gain, there by being no "real" leather, wool, skin, silk or fancy bone/antlers decorations and tools.
      The only reason i dont wear wool clothing while living in the Scandinavian countries, is i find it way to itchy even if i have to wear 2-3 more layers to stay warm in the winter months🫣🤷🏼‍♀️

      This! yes! I have a cousin so criticizes my vegan stance and said at one point that he was vegan for like 2 months. No, you are not vegan for 2 months. You were eating plant based, but being vegan is a philosophy, not a diet alone.

    • @a.k.salazr
      @a.k.salazr 4 месяца назад

      @@emmaDaugaardJensen It's not the domestication that conflicts with veganism when talking about clothing, its the fact that animals are routinely killed and/or tortured for the selling of animal clothing even if it is not leather, like wool. Common practice of the wool industry is to cut off the genitalia of the sheep without anesthetics to prevent the wool getting dirty from the sheep's bowl movements. They also force them completely under a liquid inside some machinery. Just like with the dairy industry, sheep are indirectly killed because we buy the products and they are only seen as a product to be exploited until death. This is the case will all animal products sold for profit.

    Hey Derek, one thing I thought you should have pointed out with regard to doing your own cooking is you can put together very delicious vegan meals in a short amount of time. What puts people off about doing their own cooking is the time. I'm a subscriber because you have SO MANY videos (with Crystal as the official timer) showing meals, prep to finish, being done in 10 to 15 minutes. That's what sold me on the change. I'M LAZY and hate to "cook" but I've seen enough of your vids to know I don't have to spend hours in the kitchen just to get something to eat. Nice video btw!

    Fun fact, when I look through my bank transactions last year (thats when I went fully vegan/wfpb) it says that I did more trips to the grocery store than the year before BUT I paid 500 dollars less in total! And that with rising grocery prices and inflation everywhere.. so no, eating vegan is definitely not more expensive (for me).

    Also the idea that the mice and critters who die in combines because of "vegan food" is insane because the crops they're talking about aren't exclusively for "vegan food" it's crops that people eat regardless of a specific diet. So the concept that vegans are killing MORE is laughable and clearly designed to be click-bait on their part.

I take supplements but I do really well for like a week and then like 3 weeks off. LOL...Anyway, I have meat eating family that recently were found to be deficient in B12, D3, and iron. So that's such a misconception that a vegan will be deficient. Also I'm the one without heart disease and diabetes.

    The naked mind book helps to stop drinking, and unfortunately in our society it’s not supported.. unless you say I’m alcoholic then you will get a pity.. otherwise saying it’s my choice gets you some hate
