Update: won my heat this morning with the fastest time! Seriously helpful to have watched this video and understand how fast the karts should be going!! Thanks Ethan!
I've lived in Austin for 7 years, can't believe I just found this place today. No wonder my lap times were so slow, you were taking several corners flat that I thought were hard braking zones lmao. I'm absorbing everything on RUclips to get down to sub 60 by next week and I'm pretty sure you just made it possible. Preciate it brotha, hope to see you on track 👊
Thanks for the video! I tried looking up a video before my first time but couldn’t find any useful ones. I did a 60.2. With your help I might crack the 50’s next time! Thank you!!!
Just went here and I think they changed the back half of the track so this guide a little outdated. Got a 61.8 on my first run and 61.4 on my second. The top times of the week are down in the 57-58 range so I would love to see a new guide on the new layout.
Just went today and the track has been changed. Turn 8 hairpin is a lot bigger, and they added a hairpin after turn 10/11/12. that added hairpin had a lot of people spinning
Hi Ethan. I have a question about 4 and 8. You don't say anything about braking into 4. It seems your first comment about braking there is a brake tap into 5. Is that right? And with 8, after flat out with 6 and 7, its just a dab on the brakes there? I will be running it with friends for the first time soon and very much liked your video.
Hey Jay!! Thanks so much! Yes, no braking into 4. It will feel very quick, but the main goal is to then slow down enough to make 5 without going too wide. For turn 8, a good tap is all that's needed. The turn looks very sharp, but with a proper line it opens up a lot. Build your way up to speed slowly so you can get used to how it feels. P.S. I have a new video with the modified layout for 2022 linked in the description of this video...I would suggest checking that out to see the changes. Best of luck!!
Thank you so much this has helped me immensely in improving my time and I had my 3 win yesterday But also how do you cope with the sweat after the race
Bouncing like that in long corners like 2+3 is due to some of the karts being set up with a narrow rear width. This makes the rear wheels resistant to slipping, but is then something we like to call "overgripped" which then causes the hopping as the tires try to hold on through the corner. The best thing you can do is try to get the rear rotated earlier, either by letting off the throttle a bit on entry while turning or by flicking the wheel a little. This should completely break traction in the rear and rotate the kart rather than make it hop for traction. Hope this helps a bit - little difficult to explain in this format but I hope it makes sense LOL!
hey ethan you're a great karter but i couldn't help but notice that you exitting the circuit(all four wheels of the white lines and cut the turn 8 hairpin completely). is that legal?
Heading here this weekend. Got any advice for slightly sliding the kart? Seems like you're sliding into some corners. Is it just turning the wheel slightly more than you normally would?
Hey Bradley! So sorry I didn't get to this sooner. Yes, I am rotating the kart into corners mostly by flicking the wheel a bit and using the brakes into tight ones. Generally you want to move the wheel as little as possible, but with these big heavy rentals, that's a little hard to do. Hope it went well!
Hey Nathan!! As long as it hasn't rained recently, I would expect it to be fine. Sometimes after a heavy rain it can take several days for the track to dry up, but during the summer it will dry pretty quickly. I would avoid going on a day it has rained though....the wet spots will probably be there.
I wish!! Pre-Covid they had scheduled BYOK (Bring your own kart) sessions, however I don't think they were very popular so they haven't started them again. COTA if you're seeing this, BRING 206 BACK TO COTA!!! It's so much closer and I know there is a lot of interest.....I would love to take it out there sometime. Maybe soon!
Hey!! I use an Insta360 One R. In this video, I was using the 360 module and reframed in forwards to get the super wide field of view. I really love this camera for karting - if you check out any of my most recent onboards you can see it in action. Hope this helps!
Who else watching this before going to beat there friends

I’m going to a bday party
Shaved 6 seconds off my time and won my heat, this video was a huge help dude thanks 🤙
That’s great to hear!! So glad I was able to help. Keep it up! 💪🏻
6 seconds on a track thats less than a minute? Were you pressing the gas all the way down. haha just joking good job m8.
@@urbly2638 first time out I was braking hard into some corners and ended up with a best time of 64, hit a 58 second time after I watched this 🤙
Studying before we arrive next weekend!
Best of luck!!

Of course!! Good luck!!
I just finished racing here tonight. I wish I would have seen this video before I raced! Great video!
Hey Cedric! Thanks so much!! Sorry I didn't quite have it out yet....next time haha!
First time out today, got sub 60 on "fun" race. Thanks for tips, definitely helped. Going back for competitive race soon. Lots of fun.
Just came back from racing today and the track has been changed.
Just went here and I think they changed the back half of the track so this guide a little outdated.

I was waiting for an upload, here in Texas now and it’s very nice! From Chicago!
Thanks so much!! We love it down here. A little toasty these last few weeks however....
First session 58.192. This is very helpful indeed
I was curious about it, great video

Hm ok!! I'll have to make a trip there soon to check it out. Thanks for letting me know!

both times ive been just for fun, i did 59.5 and had some crummy kart missfiring top end and sputters
This track is near me and I don’t want to look slow no more
Damn I didn’t know u were into racing! This shit helped a lot. got a 57.89 for my first sesh
we need a new one for the new layout!
Good to know track limits won’t be enforced here 😂

Do you mount your camera on top of your helmet or on the chin?
Chin!
@@EthanPalosh thanks, been thinking about getting a gopro and I can’t decide which mount to use
I tend to get some bouncing during turns 2+3. What could be causing that?

Hey Ethan -great video - just wondered - do you have the GPS data from your GoPro for this hotlap? We could use Race Render and produce track map etc.
Hey Ross!! Unfortunately no, this is an Insta360 camera. It has GPS like a gopro, but I didn’t have it turned on for this lap. sorry!!
@@EthanPalosh that's a shame. How is the track? Is it basically flat or are there gradient or banked curves?
Seems like a really smooth surface.
@@rossgraylejones4899 Very smooth! There's some nice elevation change up by that hairpin at turn 8. No banked turns.
@@EthanPalosh oh that's cool to know. Have you ever played Street Kart Racing btw?
hey ethan you're a great karter but i couldn't help but notice that you exitting the circuit(all four wheels of the white lines and cut the turn 8 hairpin completely). is that legal?
Yes! Curbs and barriers mark track limits, so nothing wrong with using all the space!

Do you think wetness will be a concern when I go in the summer? There is chances of rain during the week, but the temperatures is gonna be in the 95s

Are you allowed to take your 206 kart out in COTA yet? Curious to see what you could do with a faster kart

Are the red edges considered part of the track or would it technically be exceeding track limits?
They are the “edge,” but curbs and barriers mark track limits! (and hurt haha)
What is your go pro setup?
