Regarding cover plates. Masonry block is porous, so I don’t believe mold is the reason. The main reason is design, which either calls for fully grouted(all cells) or partially grouted(at rebar only) walls.

I instantly had to see if anyone caught that…mold 😂

Well, skilled builders aside, code requirements in places like Florida is what determines their use.
    Not the builder.
And thats coming from the mouth of a retired licensed builder in the state of Florida.

Good solution, it is no need be fully grouted!❤

Cement, stone, and concrete breath on its own....its ports
The reason is money! and by code they don't have to fill it so they dont
    Wherever they are anyway

Seems to waste a lot of mortar. I do not agree that the hole pluggers create a ventilation path to prevent mold.

Why? If they wanted a solid concrete wall, setting up forms and doing a monolithic pour is faster and cheaper. There's no good reason to be using CMUs at all if that's what you want.

@@peterrose5373It’s only faster and cheaper if you can afford the human power to do it all at once. For diy’ers building a wall, CMUs allow you to move at a slower pace and still have structural integrity
