About the need to stay in beast mode early on but not so much later in the show. In season one the need to stay in beast mode wasn't to conserve energon. It was to protect them from too much energon radiation. You know the saying about too much of a good thing can be bad? In later seasons characters who were upgraded no longer needed to worry about that problem. However for those who still had their season one forms, they still needed to be careful. A fact the episode "Code of Hero" made abundantly clear.
I recommend you check out The Gathering & Ascending, two 4 isssue mini series which feature all the characters from the toyline who weren't featured in the show. Very solid reads.
While beast wars is my favorite tf show I have to admit there are better shows like prime and animated It has its problems but if you ignore them it’s an amazing show
I don’t know why you said cheetor is maybe gay when in the show he was trying to hit on blackarachnia I’d say rattrap is the gayest I mean not only did he have a brain implosion when dinobot bent over But he kissed rhinox 3 times He’s definitely gay
