Excellent video! Helped me diagnose my non-heating Sears Kenmore dryer. Turned out to be the lint fuse just like in Dave’s video. Even rigged the two lead wires together to confirm the problem as Dave suggested. Ordered the part on Amazon (Along with vent cleaning kit) and after installation and lint cleaning, the drywer was back up and running. Wife was happy and I saved well over $150 bucks by not having to call Sears out to fix. Thanks Dave...you da man!
Just so you know, I was already at Home Depot looking at new Dryers, and I can't afford that right now, I got laid off a few weeks ago. I found your video, I pulled out the dryer, took off the back, pulled out the fuse, tested it with an ohm meter, it was bad. I first called sears parts, and they could not have one for me until a week from now, So I went on Amazon, and I have prime, I found the fuse, and a thermostat (after market), and paid the extra $6 to get it the next day. It cost me a total of $13 for both parts, I replaced them today, dryer is running great. THANK YOU. You explained it so simply, it was so easy to do. I am subscribing to you.

Dave, you are doing a super job. One suggestion,,,,,,,When testing any fuse, overheat switches, capacitor's etc. Unplug the wires (backwired item's can cuase false readings).......hvac tech. :)
Dave u saved me $150. No need for Sears repairman...I told my dad about the problem, he went to Sears and got all new parts, good things is I can take back everything I didn't use. You saved the day. It was the solenoids😆😆😆😆

Man can't thank you enough! Excellent tutorial, it took me longer to take the back off of the dryer then it did to analyze the sensors and determine that the thermal fuse was bad. I did what you did hooking the fuse wiring together to verify that the fuse was the only problem,thankfully it was. Local guy charged $16 for the fuse,a little pricey but no wait. Thanks to your video and my free Harbor Freight multi meter the Whirlpool dryer is humming again! The guy at the appliance store where I got the part said that lint build up causes the fuse to fail, funny because the vents in the dryer and the discharge vents were clear, I guess after 12 years it decided it was time to retire. Thanks again.

Dave you are a great help, my dryer wasn't allowing the flame to came on so as in your video I got my multi meter out and the first thing I tested was the fuse, bam it was the fuse!!! As an Electrican with no experience in appliance repair this would have taken a lot longer than what it did. I will be looking for a new tommarrow. Thanks for the tip! Keep the good ideas coming!! Got my whirlpool dryer working following the steps just like you said. I even did that wire trick(tape both fuse wires together and got the flame) after my multimeter confirm my fuse was bad. Oh, my fuse cost was $10. Thank so much Dave for placing this information on RUclips. Any information on repair/upgrading home electricity.
Hey great job Dave! Very informative video. If I had not watched this I wouldn't have thought it to be such an easy fix and would have had to get a repairman in. My issue was the gas valve coils and I purchased them locally for $34 here in Canada. If I had to pay a repairman it would have been a service call and at least an hour of his time on top of that too! Probably $150 - $200. Thanks again Dave!!
Thanks. The solenoid were the problem with my dryer. The problem started with the dryer not heating sometimes, after some time it started to heat again with no problem, but the problem was getting worse every timer. My solenoids only cost 5dlls. I saved a lot in the repair. Thanks for posting this videos.
Dave! You saved my bacon, bro! Turns out my situation was that tiny white fuse, too. Never even noticed it before because its tucked behind the lint screen & stuff. Wow! I'm grateful. 👍🏻
New fuse fixed my problem, thanks! The guy I bought the fuse from said that if it goes out again, check the thermostat. Also, before I put the new fuse in to make sure the vent is good and clear. He also mentioned that if it heats on air fluff, the thermostat is probably not working. I hope this easy fix lasts a while longer. Thanks!
Wow, this really helped. It was the solenoids. Real easy fix, everything in front. A couple of screws, swap them, and put it all back together. Cheap, fast, and easy.
Great job Dave. Make sure you disconnect at least one one the two leads when checking continuity on those sensors. Otherwise you might be getting a good result because it is reading the continuity of where the wires go instead of the sensor. Great feeling fixing stuff on your own. I have never had an appliance repair man in my house.

Thanks so much for posting this video. Our Kenmore Elite quit heating and it was the Thermal fuse. Thanks to you, we were able to do the repair ourselves on the same day it quit.
Great video you did a good job explaining it. Now, go after why it failed. It failed for a reason and that’s what you have to find or chances are it’ll fail again. I usually find that my dryer vent the exhaust stack has a bunch of lint buildup inside of it. But again great video excellent job of explaining it.

Good job, nice video. My igniter was coming on, so not a fuse. My problem is what you described first, which was one of the two Gas Valve Coils. The igniter would come off & then the full burner would, but would go out in a few minutes. Sometimes the burner would not come on at all & the igniter would just shut off as it is designed to do when no gas is available. I replaced both gas valve coils & all is good. Thanks, JD

I had the same fuse that was in need of being replace, bought a cheap package with replacement parts on Amazon ($10 for 4 different parts just in case) beforehand and was able to switch it out. I am female and I was really intimidated but it wasn’t that complicated once I removed the back panel and the dryer vent hose. I just hoped that I connected the hose back tight enough.

Hey, thanks for the great video. I'm guessing the fuse blew due to lint build-up in the long flexible vent pipe other part of the venting. If the longer segment(s) were replaced with straight sheet metal piping, that might prevent a future fuse blowout. Thanks again.

Edward, try replacing those 2 solenoids. Like I said in the video I had the problem where it would only ignite for a minute then go out. After buying 2 New $3 solenoid it worked great.
thanks for the info I'll be working on my GE dryer today. I notice that GE makes no effort to provide technical or other info or video to assist in fixing an appliance. Also our dryer is pretty new it can become very expensive to have a technician come. My final thought is extend your intro music and maybe add vocals if you feel up to it. Thanks again for posting.
I'm almost positive I got it on Amazon. Just the 2 black solenoid for that price. But I also think that they have this "rebuild kit" thing for around $20 That comes with other parts that you can replace if the solenoid doesn't fix it
I had the same problem with my dryer, and replaced the solenoids but still no luck. Then when I looked closely at the igniter and noticed a little bump on one of the inside surfaces of the “U” shape. It must have been arcing and shorting out the igniter, and didn’t look like it belonged there. After I scraped it off with a screwdriver the dryer worked fine again!
Just a word to the wise. I would not take any fuse for granted. Just because one might look like another one does not mean it's the same exact one. I wouldn't even justify a 'probably'. They are put in place for a reason. It is important especially if you are working with a gas dryer. Kaboom!
When you check for continuity across a fuse, be sure to disconnect all wires (or at LEAST one) attached to it. You are likely getting a closed circuit indication because of the connections to the rest of the components....
Appeared the fuse was bad. Taped the wires together as you suggested and the dryer heated. Total cost for fuse $20.01. Thanks. And no, I won't run it until I get the fuse.
I have GE gas dryer and the ignitor will light for a couple of seconds, then turn off and comes back on after a min. and turn off again. It sounds like when the flame is about to turn on I don't get any gas coming out. I checked everything and found nothing. Your video here says that it could be the solenoids. I didn't replace that yet. But when I look on amazon there are a couple of them. Are the solenoids universal and will work for any gas dryer?
I'm kinda stuck on this one. I have an 8 year old Maytag gas dryer that stopped heating. When I took it apart I could visually see that the ignitor was bad. I got a new ignitor, put it in and fired it up with the drum still out so I could see that everything was working properly. The ignitor glowed, there was an audible click, the burner fired up and the ignitor turned off. Unfortunately I forgot to unplug the power while putting everything back together, and when I started to put the door switch back into the housing I touched one of the terminals against metal and created a short that popped the breaker. I reset the breaker and everything worked like before but there was no flame even though I could smell a little gas. SInce the gas valve is mostly mechanical I took a shot at replacing the solenoid coils, thinking the short might have fried one or both of them and they were cheap to replace regardless. Put them in today but no change--the ignitor glows, click, ignitor shuts off but no flame even though I can smell a little gas. That leads me to believe that the only other option is to replace the gas valve.
My dryer does the same thing. I opened her up and found that the prior repair man had overstepped the fuse and just attached the wires. I ordered a new fuse and a new thermoster (the similar looking piece next to the fuse). I replaced them both but still no heat. Guess I'll have to go out and buy one of those electric testers, and test all the other parts.
Nothing out of my Maytag dryer. Gas full to the valve. No glow plug lighting though intact. Push the main control - seems soft no clicking. No action. I tore it all down. Does my Maytag have a thermal fuse? The back doesn't come off like the one in the vid.
It was an old post but the reason why that burned out is because your whole bottom part of the vent system on your dryer is plugged up that’s why it overheated and burn the fuse out

Yes, absolutely. You NEVER check for continuity with the leads hooked up. Otherwise you're checking all of everything it's hooked to.

Edward, try replacing those 2 solenoids. Like I said in the video I had the problem where it would only ignite for a minute then go out. After buying 2 New $3 solenoid it worked great.

SInce the gas valve is mostly mechanical I took a shot at replacing the solenoid coils, thinking the short might have fried one or both of them and they were cheap to replace regardless. Put them in today but no change--the ignitor glows, click, ignitor shuts off but no flame even though I can smell a little gas. That leads me to believe that the only other option is to replace the gas valve.
My dryer does the same thing. I opened her up and found that the prior repair man had overstepped the fuse and just attached the wires. I ordered a new fuse and a new thermoster (the similar looking piece next to the fuse). I replaced them both but still no heat. Guess I'll have to go out and buy one of those electric testers, and test all the other parts.
Nothing out of my Maytag dryer. Gas full to the valve. No glow plug lighting though intact. Push the main control - seems soft no clicking. No action. I tore it all down. Does my Maytag have a thermal fuse? The back doesn't come off like the one in the vid.
do the solenoids pull up on the valve shaft or push down ?
Will your igniter glow even if your fuse is bad?
Were do you get all the parts
The fusable link is for heat over temp which can occur if your output air is blocked.

What if you don't see an actual flame, but there is a glow for a few seconds that goes out? Kenmore 80 series does not heat. Thanks!!

My Whirlpool dryer heat kicks on for a minute then off then back on for another minute is this normal ..how long should the gas stay on for?
My dryer is doing the same thing. Did you find the problem? I put on two new solenoids but having this exact problem. Is that normal?

It was an old post but the reason why that burned out is because your whole bottom part of the vent system on your dryer is plugged up that’s why it overheated and burn the fuse out
