"He Touched Me" was written by Ira Levin and Milton Schafer for their 1965 musical "Drat! The Cat!" which starred Lesley Ann Warren, Elliott Gould and Beth Howland (who later earned fame in "Company.")
Although the show closed after only 8 performances, Elliott's wife at the time, Barbra Streisand, went on to include the song on 8 albums - including her "Greatest Hits." That's a lot to live up to, but Heather makes the song her own with this beautiful rendition.
Heather has appeared on Broadway in "The Lion King" and won the Tony Award for "Best Actress in a Musical" in 2000 for her role in "Aida." She's been nominated for two Grammy Awards.
Excerpt from the 2000 DVD "My Favorite Broadway: the Love Songs."

A short personal story - I lived in the same dorm as Heather as a freshman at Northwestern; she was my best friend's roommate. Every single one of us absolutely knew she was already a superstar, but she was the nicest, most down to earth person, easy to talk to, very thoughtful and generous as an artist. Nina Simone is one of my favorite artists ever, and I remember Heather saying she wanted to play her someday. I still would love to see that, and hope someday that dream comes true for her. It would be amazing!!!
I went to Harvest Bible Chapel. One day she sang, My Redeemer Lives at our church. I didn't know who she was. I cried like a baby as this little slight framed lady with a smile lit up the room and made my eyes link uncontrollably. I ran into her in the hall, confirmed she was the singer and told her she'd be a star. She smiled and was so kind about it. I went home and looked up..She already had won a Tony’s for Aida. and a grammy nomination. Beautiful, talents, spiritual AND humble.
one of the most underrated singers today
WHAT A VOICE AND WHAT A SMILE!
SUPERB!
I’m speechless. Perfection.
i'll never forget the first time i saw this... it absolutely changed my life and how i perform forever
We in Trinidad & Tobago are so very proud of Heather, a daughter of our island soil, a supreme artist. We love you too bad! (As Trinis will understand)
I love this...reminds me of my husband even after 20 years of marriage and 3 children!! I love it!!
Much has been said about the wonderful talent of Heather Headley here and none of it is overstated. Chipping in my two cents for the guitarist who has some amazing understated chops of his own.
Nothing in the world will ever compare to the perfection of this song

I have chills... She does this amazingly. I already loved this song and now... wow! There are singers and then there are artists like her. :)
The words...........and the eloquence of the delivery. Thank you Heather for a small taste of heaven right here on earth.
It's amazing how this lady crosses over from Soul/R&B to Jazz to Pop and even to Musical. So talented. Incredible! :)
Actually she started on Broadway before she became the underrated recording talent she is. Heather was the original Adult Nala in the Broadway version of Lion King. Later, she was invited by Elton John and Tim Rice to sing the title role in their musical adaptation of the classic opera Aida. The role led her to her Tony Award in 2000. Heather recently returned to Broadway after a 15 year absence as Shug Avery in the Color Purple.
Beautiful and intimate performance by Ms. Headley. I've been a fan of her since I was 10 when my mom bought her first CD This Is Who I Am!
This woman is blessed and Anointed...!!!...Beautiful....!!!

Awesomeness!!!!
Brazilian guitar. mpb. I love my Brasil
Did anyone hear that note at 1:19
This song is about G O D it had been sang by many people including the great Elvis Presley but nobody and I mean nobody had ever sing this song the way heather Headly did. when you listen to it you really get to think that GOD really touched you.
José Gregorio Salas Nuñez Between you and that other idiot, Connie Pastel...I don't know who is worse. This is NOT EVEN THE SAME SONG! It is not about Jesus or God nor was it sung by Elvis or Mahalia Jackson or the frigging Staple Singers! It was written for the Broadway Musical "Drat! The Cat!" which opened and closed in 1965. Barbra Streisand had the hit with it! Her husband at the time was Elliot Gould, and he happened to be in the show...Barbra liked the song and recorded it! My God, what a bunch of simpletons!
D+ isso que é cantora que istenção e essa paça de um grave para o intermediario facilmente e depois araza em um falsete maravilhozo nota 10
he did a good job I guess, But It sounds divine on Barbra Streisand!!!!!
bravo bravo bravo
@kienmaple Actually, I think it's about a guy. Barbra Streisand originally sang it almost four decades ago...although that IS an interesting interpretation...
Elliot Gould sang in a failed show. Barbra was the 1st to record it
a DRAT THE CAT! song! Love that score, & I'd like to see a good production. Ms. Headley is a joy--check her out on a recording of DO-RE-MI, as produced by Encores--great!
BARBRA
has no emotion.
BECAUSE GOD IS IN EVERYTHING....GOOD. ONE DAY HOPEFULLY YOU WILL FIGURE THIS OUT FOR YOUR SOUL.
bravooooooooooooo
There is a reason why you continue to respond here. The truth is, we will never be too messed up for Jesus. His love for us is unconditional and self sustaining. I will remember you in prayer...
whitney wished she could sing like this
