From the sanctuary of my family's church, right before the benediction our Pastor would request 1st the musicians, to play a couple verses of, "Reach Out & Touch Somebody's Hand," and then he'll kindly beg us to stand up & join hands around the sanctuary and sing a verse or 2 of, "Reach Out & Touch..." for him please before we go? Rev. Mims asked this of us so many Sundays, I almost thought all church's did the same. Tears, naturally would start to fall from his eyes by the time we reach the chorus & he'll see all our hands interlaced, swaying side 2 side, in unison while we come together once more, in song, heart felt, spirit full & bouncing around blessings from each other and all around us! Heather Headley's version here, reminds me of those great Sunday's I used to know & look forward to throughout my formative to teenage years. So much so, I couldn't wait to return once I finally got into a routine on campus & my off campus jobs to return to The Tabernacle and fill up the gap missing in my life, confirming still, there's no place like home especially when 1 is the house of the Lord, where my Grandparents said their vows back 1 winter in the mid-forties, bring the 1st wedding ceremony held inside the main sanctuary, looking like photos from a story book or film, they looked so.petfect (him fresh out the military at 25 & his new lovely & demure bride all of 19 yrs. old) -with the rest of loving friends & family all there to celebrate their day of love! So yes, thank you songbird, Heather, you great artist & friend for reminding us again, through your gift of song that this was not only to our nation's most rare & unique 1st Family, twice over plus & the sheer joy of a First Lady in the audience, who served her country,, our country, doubly also as both wife of Leader of the Free World & Mother of a US President, couldn't hold back the elation stirring sensation inside her soul of 1 sweet song that represents so much to her & her own life's legacy, that she wouldn't have imagined for herself at all when she was a lil girl! So Yes, Reach Out & Touch Somebody's Hand, heart, home, health and lets find a way to heal better this time, this year, together.
