Things must have changed. I got married to a German in 1985 and although I could speak German, we had to have a state recognized translator at the Standesamt. Your story is lovely though and I’ve had similar experiences where I haven’t fully understood the conversation and responded badly.

Fand sie damals bestimmt nicht süß! Apropos Antwort auf vorhin: ja, sie hat Spaß. Aber es ist natürlich sehr anstrengend bei der Wärme. Vor allem Dingen, weil immer nicht klar ist, ob es nicht vielleicht doch unterwegs und zu regnen fängt. Aber jetzt sind es ja nur noch drei Tage, Freitag vor Nachmittag, denke ich ist sie zurück. Und dann ist erst mal Ruhe mit langen Touren. Hier waren es inzwischen dann vorhin 35°. Aber weiter ist es dann doch nicht gestiegen. LG Ben

😂 my now husband can relate, he is German, so he understood everything, he was just to excited/ nervous, that he said yes too soon even before the Registrar had finished his question…
