I showed up today 😀 This study is what starts each day! In the beginning I would squeeze it in somewhere in the day but it quickly went to top priority in my day! It sets the tone for my heart and my day. I am in the midst of selling my home and moving so I need this focus to calm me and know God is always with me and has also gone ahead of me. He knows my future and has plans for me. He truly is where the joy is! I love Him so much 🧡

Jehovah-Rapha is what comes to mind from today's reading! Jesus Christ came to heal the sick. We just have to be willing to come to Him and He will heal us. In Matthew 8, a leper and a centurion come to Jesus with there needs, and Jesus said, "I will". He is able to heal us physically, and emotionally, but the greatest healing that we receive is from the sickness of our souls due to sin. Yes and Amen Lord Jesus! When the Pharisees complained to Jesus that He was hanging around tax collectors and sinners, He said, ‭“Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mark‬ ‭2:17‬ ‭ESV‬)

What I like about the leper story is that the leper had protocol to follow. He was required to yell, “unclean, unclean” so people wouldn’t be contaminated. Yet, he wanted and believed in Jesus, that he came near anyway, knowing he would be humiliated, ridiculed, maybe stoned. He had courage because he believed. Be strong and courageous in belief. Love it. Trust Jesus. Believe who He is.

First, I appreciate TLC’s “Weekly Check In” with those who are grieving. Thank you! And look at how God imparts His character into an outsider, an oppressor, and a leader who is doing his work, serving the military: the Roman centurion. As a retired Air Force officer, he’s always been one of my favorite characters in the Gospel, for the faith and humility that God gives Him. “Say the word from where you are, because I’m unworthy to have you visit my home.” And Jesus praises him instead of condemning him and telling him to resign. He says that He has more faith than He’s found in all Israel. That’s who I want to be today-a man of faith and humility.

Wowwee wow wow! I so appreciate and am thankful for this Bible Study and the Christians doing their prayerful research behind this study and Tara-Leigh Cobble. She's so relatable & approachable and presents it in such an understandable way. Thankful for her obedience in following God's calling on her life. I needed some more help with Matthew 8:10 and this helped me.

“And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”” ‭Mark‬ ‭2‬:‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Not one of us are truly righteous, except maybe in our own eyes.

Today was difficult for me. I lost my nephew 10 years ago to mental illness. When I was new to my church one of the ladies said he was possessed by the devil. I will admit I thought that was a crazy idea. But now in my walk with Jesus I realize it was not a crazy idea but the truth. I feel such guilt. Could I have saved him if I would have believed her. My faith could have saved him. I miss him so much.

Or it's easier to understand. For me I see Jesus w flesh on that meets us where we are, & truly wants us to experience all of Him. That definitely causes us to want all to know Him & that same joy!

A leper comes to Jesus and kneels at his feet. Even the least lovely feel like they can come to him. Jesus heals the leper and tell him to remain quiet.
When He is with the Jews, He wants to keep His miracles quiet to preserve the specific timing that God has. He knows the people will want to crown Him as king and the Romans will want to kill Him. Also Jesus wants to be known for His message and not just His miracles.
Jesus has a very difficult task of keeping His father’s timeline while wanting to heal people because He has compassion on them. Every healing exposes Jesus a little more and gets Him closer to His death. It all had to be done on the Fathers timeline.
Jesus was not trying to avoid death. He knew it had to happen at the precise timing.
Following Jesus will be costly. Possibly in finances, mostly following Jesus will cost us our priorities, like comfort and convenience, our control and timing.
He tells His disciples they are going to the other side of the sea, the Gentile side, the “unclean”side according to tradition there.
On the way, a storm comes up that threatens to kill them all. With a word, Jesus calms the storm.
The disciples are in awe. They see Jesus cast out demons, restore people’s sanity, heal diseases, and boss the weather around with a command. What can’t Hs do?
The disciples are seeing Jesus demonstrate his complete power over everything. He starts with beverages-water to wine, then He moves to human bodies and diseases.
Then He takes on weather, and now He’s moving on the spiritual forces of darkness. Jesus casts the demons out of man and sends them into pigs who run into the sea. The demons recognize Jesus and are afraid of Him. They know what awaits them in the future.
The people are upset about the loss of money from their pigs. Never mind the men that are no longer tortured by demons. The people do not yet understand the upside down kingdom of Jesus.
Then Jesus will heal a paralytic man who is lowered through the roof, probably at Peters house.
Jesus is a mind reader, He knows what the scribes are thinking. He is also a heart reader. He knows the heart and faith of the paralytic man.
Jesus reaches out to people that can offer Him nothing. The sick, the demoniacs-so bound up by the oppression of the enemy, that they cannot even ask for help.
Jesus has a great affection for those who are desperate. He came not to call the righteous ( in their own standards ) but sinners. Those who have need of Him.
“And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment. That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?” And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters.”
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭8‬:‭2‬-‭3‬, ‭8‬, ‭12‬-‭13‬, ‭16‬, ‭26‬, ‭29‬, ‭32‬
“And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”-he said to the paralytic- “I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.” And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.””

It also made me think of how the town w the healed demon possessed people asked him to leave. I'd want Him to stay & be w me always. They wanted peace but not the ways of peace.
