I was just looking a photos of a friend’s birthday and anniversary party. It was glitz and glam and a lot of beautiful people enjoying one another. THIS is what gives me joy-caring for my family. Establishing a good routine. Spending time in my open Bible and loving on my husband and kids and grandkids. Making my home lovely and worshipping together with my brothers and sisters in Christ. Walks in the woods, the morning sunrise, even a beach with my Sweetie every now and again. Seasons. Baking. Cooking a meal. Simple life. I cherish it more and more every day.

Your kids are going to grow up and have such wonderful memories of the the sounds of their mama in the kitchen. Sounds of metal measuring cups being filled, spoon taps on bowls, water coming to a boil, stove doors opening and closing, jar lids popping; all sounds of love being poured into the delicious food they’ve tasted throughout their childhoods.
I have these memories from my gramma’s kitchen and they are treasured. ❤

I think the culture of consumption steals the joy of being in the beauty of now; autumn decor in August, sparkly chocolate hearts before the new year has even appeared, and so on. Do I dream of the quiet, fly-free, dark days of January when I'm sweating through harvest? Absolutely. Do I moon over photos and videos of loaded lilac trees and dry sunny weather when I'm cracking slab ice off livestock drinkers? Yes. However, as I age, I realize how right your son is about wishing away today; its something I'm trying to be aware of and guard against. Thanks again for a wonderful, comforting peek into your life!! ❤

I’m a retired elementary teacher who will turn 69 this month, and I miss my own adult kids and all my students. There is snow on the ground where I live in Central Oregon, and I’m embracing this slower pace. I’m about to start my sourdough ventures again, as well as jumping on the reading train again. I’m not used to downtime but am learning that it’s ok after years of working and feeding my family a healthy natural diet. I don’t have as much room for a garden but am exploring EarthBoxes. 1. Your voice is calm it helps me unwind at night.
    2. It helps my 16 month old fall to sleep
    3. During the day when I don’t feel like doing a choir that needs to get done I watch your videos and they motivate me to get it done.
    4. Watching you kneading dough or stretch and pull is so satisfying.
    5. I’ve been minimizing the amount stuff we own like clothes, home decor, kitchen gadgets, organizing closet bedrooms to only keep what is needed etc…This is definitely one of the biggest changes I’ve made because of you and it feels so good.

Best kind of floral arrangements are things you find in your own backyard. Sticks and twigs-wild flowers-tall grasses-dried flowers and berries. All the elements you put in your pitcher/vase. 🥰 I love to do the same thing. I make a braided bread with cardamom in it. It’s a recipe from a small Pillsbury cook book I got at the checkout of my grocery store in the 90s lol. I love cardamom.

I think about the reasons why we do the work of home keeping. If we can remember that we do it for those we love (and ourselves) in order to provide an orderly serene environment to be together in, or to come together in, that really lifts us beyond the ordinary work of it. We are providing “soul space”. What could be more important a gift to give our loved ones?

Taking time to make more robust hot drinks is one of my favorite winter splurges. I'm watching with a Maple London Fog while a blizzard rages happily outside my window. I can't wait to see the trees wearing the ice and snow tomorrow. Its going to be beautiful, and maybe a cinnamon clove latte will be just the thing for the glittering morning.

Lisa, I look forward to your vlogs whenever you post them. Every time I'm in awe of how you make homesteading seem like a well oiled machine. Summer is my favourite season too. I always wish it was eternally summer. I don't wish it were colder in the summer at all either. The floral arrangement was amazing. Victor seems to be growing up so soon. The snuggling by the fire with your babies was so wholesome. I look forward to your basement changes vlog. I also believe in declutter and minimalism a lot. Have an amazing winter season ❤

Yes yes yes! I am excited to see how you transform your basement for food storage. When we buy our house we are going to have a basement just for that very reason...but have no idea how. So you are not the only one excited about a basement lol
