    People don't realize that Tim Cook is neither a tech guy nor an innovator, he got to his position because he's a ruthless businessman who optimized supply chains as much as humanly possible to not only maximize Apple's profits but also to enable Apple to finance Jony Ive's extravagant design choices. For example no one would have ever be so wasteful to cave a laptop shell from a solid block of aluminium.
    It's funny how Apple always wants to be seen as a liberal or even "woke" company but in reality they are (like all corporations) as conservative as it gets. Apple would never dare to criticize human rights violations in China or the fact that Saudi Arabia literally murders gay people because doing so would hurt their bottom line. That is true for every corporation but it is worse when a company acts as liberal as Apple whenever it is convenient

      Woz is almost completely irrelevant for the modern Apple company. How I read the videos title is “who really created Apple.. as we know it today”. Because *obviously* Tim wasn’t there in the beginning when Jobs and Wozniak actually created the company. Everyone knows that.
      Titles these days are *always* clickbaity on nearly all channels. The algorithm demands it. So always take them with a grain of salt.

    Tim Cook was a director of international sales so it is obvious that his greatest contribution's are selling a monitor stand for 999$ and leadership. That is doubling revenue from sales by: selling chargers separately, delaying USB-C developing software that will destroy older phones batteries and making repair service impossible . He is a true innovator of our times. Like a famous philosopher Butcher from The Boys said "Scorched earth"

    • @xfive494
      @xfive494 Месяц назад +3

      I forgot to add: he gave us all new colors: pink space and gold rich

    • @auspiciouslywild
      @auspiciouslywild Месяц назад +2

      Delaying USB-C? They were one of the first to go all-in on USB-C on laptops, and was fairly early on iPads as well. iPhones was tricky because people had Lightning peripherals that are very clunky to use with a dongle. I have a FLIR camera myself that was obsoleted by the transition to USB-C, so I’m happy they delayed the transition for a while. Though I think it was dragged out a bit longer than it should’ve.
      Software that destroys old batteries? You have that upside down. They delivered software update that throttled CPU so the phone didn’t just unexpectedly shut down when the battery got old. When they got criticised because people incorrectly thought that they slowed down old phones for no reason, they even made an update that lets you choose between slow phone, or fast phone that kills your battery.
      Repairs? That’s very out of touch considering the development the last few years. They made the phone dual entry to make replacing the screen easier. They made tools and service manuals accessible. And with the iPhone 16 they switched to a battery adhesive that’s easier to release, released service manuals on day one, and iFixit gave them a score of 7/10 which is the highest in a long time. The only reason the phone is hard to repair now is that they’ve put so much effort into making the phone water resistant, while still being small, which will always involve some glue. This is just as important for repairability for making the phone last a long time. People now routinely keep using their phone after dropping them in water, which is not an uncommon accident.
      Still plenty of things to criticise Apple for. (Genuine replacement parts are still too expensive IMO.) But keep it real.

      @@auspiciouslywild When a greatest innovation is new color, I start to wonder is Apple talking to kindergarteners.
      He should drop the T-shirt and jeans act and wear a suit, as a thru salesmen as he is when a case for Vision Pro is priced for 199$. That is the price of original iPod nano when released. We were getting 1000 songs in your pocket, now you get 1mm thiner middle finger. That's innovation.

The “cash infusion” by microsoft fact is not correctly recounted here, that was a settlement amount that they had to give apple for something else, it didnt save apple, because within the next quarter apple lost more money than that measly $150 Mil. Wozniak created the Apple computer. Not the Apple company. And the Apple company is arguably more defined by the Macintosh than the Apple I and II.
      Jef Raskin is arguably more important to the creation of the Apple company we know today than Woz.
      Not to discredit Woz. He was a technical genius. The company wouldn’t have been able to bootstrap itself without the money they got from the Apple II, which was a genius technical design. But almost nothing Woz did is relevant anymore today. Yet the design/innovations of the Macintosh is still relevant to how computers are used today.
      It’s kind of insane how many things the original Macintosh got right on the first try.

    Haven't watched yet but apple hasn't innovated much since Steve died. The first time Steve left, the company nearly went bankrupt. Unfortunately for me, I don't know what to add for his second time.
    Anyway, Tim Cook pretty much inherited the company just by being Steve's successor. Tim didn't go through the same hard work to build up Apple like Steve did. Tim doesn't know what made Apple successful in the first place. Or I suppose he does but exploits it or something.
    At least Steve cared or seemed to care about user privacy. Tim doesn't. Instead of sending your data to Google, you're sending it to Apple instead.

      How old were you when Steve Jobs was around? My first laptop was a 2005 PowerBook, and have used MacBooks ever since. There was barely any significant innovations with the PowerBooks / MacBooks when Steve was alive. Except the transition to Intel. But using the same CPU as everyone else is hardly innovation. The switch to ARM under Tim Cook is arguably a MUCH bigger leap in innovation with tangible improvements for the end user that no one else could match.
      Steve Jobs knew to iterate on designs that were already about as good as they can be. There is really *no* difference between him and Tim Cook in how they’d manage the development of the iPhone.
