Farms are great even in early game. Just use 1 farm with 2 families and 2 oxen working on 15 fields with 0.6-0.7 morgen each. Use the rotation so that you allways have 10 fields growing crops and 5 fields being fallow each year. Its very efficient
@@psychospartan3007 i think the crux is that one worker with one ox is faster than one worker by himself. So the rest of.you farmers can work on the other fields
I go tired of running out of food So I just made a HUGE burgage plot with just one house only, then set it up as a vegetable farrm, no need for extra workers, the family is a sl a ve there toiling away for the entire city. Then made the same for the apple orchard. voila, 4 families supplying the entire village with 24months worth of food, the third source will be berries, the number that appears in the counter is a lie, it actually supplies more if you have 3-4 foraging huts
And don’t forget! If your burgage plot can support two families, you can eventually get a third family in there when upgrading the home, making veggie and apple production more stable and efficient (in terms of labor)
Years and years ago I was playing a medieval game with farms and struggling to get enough food and couldn't figure out why, then my friend, who lived at a farm and worked the fields with his dad, played and just instinctively marked out huge swathes of land for farming and it worked great - it was a real epiphany for my city-kid thinking.
@@anthonyrivera4547 Late response here, so I am sure you know, but for anyone else that's new or unsure; leather will be sold on the market as the first basic clothing choice for your burgages. The Cobbler upgrade will also convert excess leather into shoes as an additional or second clothing choice.
I wish there was a way to lock families living in plots with veggie gardens from having another job, or even better a way to tell them to prioritize their garden during the harvest/sowing season. Having for example logs and boards is nice and all, but not starving is even better!
I'm the exact opposite, my dumbass dident realize artisan jobs takes the WHOLE family away, easy way to have effective vegetable garden is to have extra space for 2 families
You can assign them to a corpse pit and since you very rarely need to collect bodies they will effectively be unassigned without you being able to assign them to another job
I went farming early game and this actually solved all future food for me. When I had around 70 families, I was already having 5.5k bread in storage. I could then export a lot of it and focus on other stuff
this is why i think games like these should have a spoilage or plague system where too much food will eventually rot and cause plenty of rats resulting to disease. it's a fun devastating mechanic for me
Does this make sense? As I understand it, the trading post actually store the gods you are exporting / importing, in their own storage. So, having a trading post next to each market place you build makes sense I think. This way, the workers in that particular market place doesn't have to walk the longer walk, to each market place
"I'm watching this without a gaming PC with literally no way to ever play this game like this is valuable inform for me" There you go. I swapped it from female to male.
Instead of ignoring farming, you should be preparing for the threshhold where berries and hunting will no longer sustain your town and harvests are necessary
@@Chet_Thornbushel thx. I am still figuring out how I can actually learn these things myself in game. I barely understand how my supplies are actually generated. I am harvesting soooo much crops from my fields but never have more than 2 months worth of food.
@@riquelmeone yeah it can be a little frustrating to not understand more of the inner workings of the game. I hope they have a comprehensive guide someday. Something that has helped me learn more and not get as frustrated is being open to restart and experiment more. I don’t get precious about a village or game. I will start one just to try something out and then delete it and start another. Especially in the first year of a place because it can move so quickly so I can try a lot of things out before settling on a new game that I want to see through to a massive, successful city.
@@Chet_Thornbushel probably good approach. I saw a video of a guy doing a circular town, I liked that and might try to replicate that. My market is currently way too distant from a lot of burgages to have real impact. And then there is the combat bit which I don’t have a single clue about :)
@@riquelmeone I usually set up multiple small markets with only 4-6 spots for stalls. I don’t know if that’s more effective, but it makes sense to me as a person. I don’t play often or long enough to feel like I can have a grasp on more than just running the town 😆

Tell that to burning red zone. 😂 With green is OK but red is nah
@daluestortoises6469 you can grow stuff even on bad ground . But I agree red is really bad. I aim for at least yellow and not too much orange .
Vegetable gardens are still way more efficient imo.
I only ever use farms for Barley -> Malt -> Ale production now.
are oxens really faster than farmers they seem slow

Also tanners early on need to build stalls. You can unassign later when you have a cobbler.
I rather have two storehouses, one with firewood and one with clothing

First fields should always be barley for ale
Does your trick with pausing the Tavern still work?
I'm pretty sure it got patched, but in response he lowered the taverns rate
I'm not sure, but the burgage plots consume less ale now with the patch.
I tested a few nights ago and it no longer works.
does this still hold up? If burgage gardeners don’t sell on the market, how does their food reach the rest of the city?
I’m pretty sure it’s all transported to the granaries and storehouses and is sold by the workers of those buildings.
