    Nice demo you have on making this strum stick. I like wood work also but I found one at a great price before I could build one myself. Love playing my Mackie at my camp. A real fun instrument.

    Thanks for sharing! This video sure helped me out along with Andy Mackie's (which is a lot like The Heartland series meets Bob Ross...excellent). I saw you did well all the way through. I used only (mostly, because sometimes to save a piece I use a Dremel) hand powered tools. I am at best a novice, my stuff looks hammered, but that's my style. Here is my tip for anyone out there...when you encounter a brash or stiff bit you need to bend gently exercise 30-50 times to get he grain to start to cooperate. I am a decent bowyer of rough and kiln dried oaks and hickory. Bending wood is a tricky endeavor even with steam. You will be surprised how important warming up the piece with exercise is. One last note, popping make occur...ease back a hair and continue.

    How come the best videos are like 10 years or more old? Very interesting. I didn't see you working with any templates. Pretty amazing. How do you determine the spacing between fretts?

    Just watched this video...amazing what was waiting in that slab of walnut. I am wondering how you did the stringing...I know it's supposed to be simple...but so am I and I just can't get it right. Did you go through the whole first a couple of time before you tightened them up? Thanks.

    Thank you....I was wondering if you could use GAUGED WIRE. .I found a template from gauge wire to mm wire and a 23 and 26 gauge wire woukd be the same size as a
    .010 and a .014 and a .023 wire....do you think I could use that and tune it to a C &A&G...???

    I would hide glue instead of white glue. That way if something goes wrong down the road you can take it apart with heat.

    Nice video! Very thorough. Two questions: Where can I find 1/8" thick cedar for the top and bottom? None of our local stores have any this thin. The thinnest I can find is 1/4". Also, for the back side, how did you form it to slope into the neck? Thanks!

    • @MrPatrick7777
      @MrPatrick7777 9 лет назад

      You will need to find someone, like a cabinet shop or maker, that has a small planer and know how to use a backer-board and two sided tape or rip some smaller pieces on a table saw. The last choice is the least used but you can hand plane it or make a jig for a belt sander and start with 1/4" piece and take it down. Also there are kits for a price and it takes the fun out for me. But it could be a starting point.

    Excuse me for approaching you in this way, I have read your website and I liked it very much, I have also seen that it has several Pear dulcimer, I am trying to make one for my music group in Spain, we play traditional
    music with Celtic roots, we are from the northern Spain (Asturias). I was wondering if you could give me your knowledge on the matter. I await your response,
    but not before thanking you in advance for your time and dedication.
    Acordial greeting
