If they had an award for the most enthusiastic sarcasm at the Oscars, we all know who would be walking up on stage grinning, waving, to collect it. The applause from audience would be wild.
Very relevant, its pix pixel sensor has a very nice character - almost as nice as the original 5D - in a very capable body. Use mine primarily with manual focus Nikon glass. Very enjoyable.
Love it!!! Subscribed. I'm a high school photo teacher, and in the early days of digital cameras with 2, 6, and 8mp cameras; I wish I had a video record of my telling sceptical students that, "One day, these cameras will have 12, 18, 20 even 40 some mp capabilities to even higher rediculous MP numbers. All that's enough to bog down our computers now, cant imagine the high (MB) computers that could handle these enormous files." And here we are now in the time of enormous MP cameras and laptops measured in Terribites. I use my D700 regularly. A stand alone Nikon that produces images with a signature quality look.
I have a D700. Apart from the weight it's still my best camera. If you're in the market for a used and inexpensive full frame, I'd say it may indeed be the camera of the year. But mine is not for sale.
Very funny. You are great, Omar. Made my evening. I bought one last year with 5000 shutter activations. I call that new with a 50mm f1.4 lens and battery grip for about $600. Best deal ever. I am a Fuji shooter now but I love that tank of a camera. This and the D850 are probably the best DSLRs ever. I’ll get the D850 when everyone has gone mirrorless.
I love my d700. Still my favourite camera for portraits using a flash. Best feature for me is the small files. Also, 12mp is more than enough in most situations. It’s the only camera I have made money with.
Haven't used mine in...30 minutes. I shoot it in daylight or bounce flash so low light not important. But what I love is the colors, especially with a voigtlander 58 1.4 and the noise looks more like grain than noise so it pairs nicely with my F5, fm2n or fe. As for 12 mp, how much do you need for the web? Now for printing large, I grab my d850, Mamiya rb67 or 645. This camera is "filmic" with the film look so when I want to bang away, it is a nice companion for my film cameras.
Ah 2008. Appreciate the commitment all the way through with the rock band sounding music, comic sans font, and those early movie transition effects. Crazy to remember how many gadgets came with a CD and extra goodies. My younger family members don't even have computers that come with a CD drive anymore!
Still have mine and will never get rid of it. It’s simply a fantastic camera and true beast. Although I’m shifting to a much lighter mirrorless camera, I plan to whip out the D700 when I want those iconic film-like images. And it was cool having you take us back in time to 2008 😂
Wonderful. My old D700 was the camera I’d never sell. Until ALL my Nikon gear went to make way for Fuji. I just found one with a 400 shutter count! I couldn’t say no. I had to find a lens. 28-105 does the job for now. For all the reasons highlighted here I’m very happy.
Possibly the finest DSLR that Nikon had ever made. I've shot with one but never owned one. Shows that you don't need huge amounts of pixels, just a truly wonderful sensor. You can also buy a body in decent condition that's cheaper than an X100S.
There's a certain irony to you joking about the D700 with futuristic capabilities like a "one-day" live view in the viewfinder while I'm sitting here literally considering selling off my D750 to instead GET a D700 for its colors, build and 12MP output. Seriously. With a D300S to back it up. You made a great video in 2021 about the D700 and I've been considering this camera for over a year even though its age is THIRTEEN years old! Those output files from a D700 are just lovely and I've fought the colors output from my D750, particularly greens and blues, since the day I got it. I just don't like its shades no matter what I do with them in Lightroom or Luminar. Great stuff Omar!
But, Omar... Does it have IBIS??? 2008 was a year to remember for me. Went through Army basic training, attended my first semester of college and rented my first apartment. Also, this was before DigitalRev was the DigitalRev we all know and remember fondly. Wow.
I fell back in love with photography with Fuji mirrorless cameras, and I’ll always love my X-T1 and X100, but I love using an OVF too much and I replaced them with a D700 and M9.
Very funny! I had a D700 back around then. I loved it. The finger grip was deep enough that I could hang the camera off just my finger tips. I don't think I could do that with any of my current cameras. And the D700 was tough as nails.... except when it wasn't. Mine got a single grain of sand in it during a trip to Sydney for the NYE fireworks. Froze up the whole camera right before the early show started. (Fortunately, the J1 had just came out and I had one as back up.) I was finally able to get the grain of sand to move enough right before the main show. Other than that, it was a great camera for its time. Glad I don't have to carry all that weight anymore though.
I miss mine. It was indestructible. To hell and back with it. Most of my learning with it. Tough day sliding that and all my glass across the counter for Fujifilm. I forgot how big and heavy it was.
Still have my D700. Remember: that was the hottest pro-camera - the Baby D3 in 2009! I remember David Hobby and Joe McNally posting blog entries about them 😂... Good times...
Still have mine, great camera once you get all the functions and menus sorted. I travelled extensively from Alaska to Tasmania shooting Winter sports and Summer sports, the odd wedding and some scene shots for Rock bands and Street Venue Market places. I still shoot Nikon but have joined the Fujifilm Family about 7 years ago. I'm not so keen to take the Fuji out in hostle environments especially Dust / Water or temps from -50 to +60 degrees celsius like my trusty D700.
I've been using my D700 for about 9 years for athletics and recently landscapes. A cracking good camera, rock solid, although I did get it very wet once which cost me a few £££, but otherwise superb. Love all the dials, does everything I need it for.
That was fun. Coming from someone old enough to remember getting excited about print coming up on my green monitor through the phone lines...yes, I am a dinosaur....
Funny man. The D700 was my money maker for weddings and overall probably the best camera I've owned. It just worked. But I sold it and the holy trinity set of lenses last year since I don't do professional photography anymore. My XT3 and X-T20 suit me very well these days and are way lighter, the photos are not as magical as with the D700 but they are good enough.
Honestly I don't see how digital photography could get much better at this point. I mean 5 fps and 12MP ? Who needs more ! Plus, the size for this performance is really reasonable. No way such a tech fits in a smaller body.
The images that sensor produces are spectacular even in 2021. But today it's all about high megapixels and high FPS. For people who just love photography, this camera is a steal.
You've gotta recreate some old mirrorless reviews from the early 2010s! Back when everyone questioned and doubted that mirrorless would become the standard lol good times.
Very funny Omar. But for real, the D700 has a sensor that makes amazing 12 mp images. I have many cameras that I tend to buy and sell, but the D700 is one that I will keep forever (along with my xt-20!)
F3 Hp with MD-4, bought in 1984; d700 with Motor bought in 2018 and d750 bought in 2018 and not the least capture on. What a Photographic Fun, for me, it is!
And here I was looking at cherry blossom tree’s all morning and you go and have a stellar shoot with them! 😭 it’s like you’re rubbing it in my face Omar!
This was the last camera I had before I switched over to the Fuji XT1. Omar this video was a lot of fun, and very funny. It actually was a great camera, but after switching to Fuji I sold all my Nikon gear -2 Nikon lenses that I use with adapters on my Fujis.
The sarcastic starw when you talked about never removing the exterbal physical dials and buttons for control. I laughed. Seriously thigh it's why i love old DSLRs. Everything can be externaly controlled. wish that would come back.
If they had an award for the most enthusiastic sarcasm at the Oscars, we all know who would be walking up on stage grinning, waving, to collect it. The applause from audience would be wild.
I worked as a second shooter for a wedding photographer a few years ago who was still using D700 cameras and producing great work!
I still use the D700 for paid work
That was pretty awesome, not to mention D700 is still a relevant camera 14 years later.
Very relevant, its pix pixel sensor has a very nice character - almost as nice as the original 5D - in a very capable body. Use mine primarily with manual focus Nikon glass. Very enjoyable.
Best digital camera ever. Still have mine. Never for sale.
One of the greatest dslrs of all time 👌🏻 you could beat any mirrorless camera to death with it and it would still shoot flawlessly.
Anytime I see a d700 I send a like no matter what.
Just bought one two weeks ago. I absolutely love it :) And the shutter sound is so much better then a video can ever show.
That shutter!
She surely is a loud slapper :)
Comic Sans at the end shows me you're really committed to this 🤣
I'm sure it violates at least one RUclips policy and one article of the Geneva convention.
@@quikee9195 rofl
Jokes aside, the images from it are beautiful
Love it!!! Subscribed. Oh my god... I remember seeing this video 13 years ago and it made me want to buy the Nikon D700.....
Lol.
I have a D700. Apart from the weight it's still my best camera. If you're in the market for a used and inexpensive full frame, I'd say it may indeed be the camera of the year. But mine is not for sale.
iam a fuji user, but a few days ago, i just buy used nikon D700 with new 50mm AFD and i love it!
Very funny. You are great, Omar. Made my evening. I bought one last year with 5000 shutter activations. I call that new with a 50mm f1.4 lens and battery grip for about $600. Best deal ever. it also has a pop up flash (:
what a nice thing to have.
Btw, i'm still using my nikon d90. My first camera.
Haven't used mine in...30 minutes. I shoot it in daylight or bounce flash so low light not important. Engineers: How many buttons & deals should the D700 have?
Nikon. YES.
Excellent video sir ! Loved it. I’ve got a D700 and I will now show it some love.
Ah 2008. Appreciate the commitment all the way through with the rock band sounding music, comic sans font, and those early movie transition effects. Crazy to remember how many gadgets came with a CD and extra goodies. My younger family members don't even have computers that come with a CD drive anymore!
One of the best cameras ever made, I loved it! Cool video!
I use D700 with Nikkor 85mm and I love that beautiful pictures it produce. 12mpx is enough for normal prints or Internet.
12mp are way more enough than that, you can print big
What an awesome way to do a review for classic camera!
Hope you travel to past again and do more reviews like this!!!
I picked one up used 7-8 years ago, and it's still worth now what I paid for it then 🤯 Not that I'd ever part with it, I love that tank!
Still have mine and will never get rid of it. It’s simply a fantastic camera and true beast. Although I’m shifting to a much lighter mirrorless camera, I plan to whip out the D700 when I want those iconic film-like images. And it was cool having you take us back in time to 2008 😂

Incredible camera. Nikon really shaked the industry with the D300/D700 cameras.
The D700 puts out amazing images. I own three of them.
Possibly the finest DSLR that Nikon had ever made. I've shot with one but never owned one. Shows that you don't need huge amounts of pixels, just a truly wonderful sensor. You can also buy a body in decent condition that's cheaper than an X100S.
i bought it this year 2021 and love it ..its just made to take pictures .
4:20 "I should start a youtube channel recording sounds"
*whispers
"hello" 🤣🤣🤣
2:12 I fell on the floor laughing
Literally one of the greatest cameras ever made and Noone knows
Love this video! My Canon 7D from 2009 waves and says Hi to his Nikon brother.
Time just stopped for me watching this video…9:26 AM forever! Just acquired one and can’t wait to use it. Great video. Keep them coming.
I almost spit my coffee out when you said it shoots 5fps😂 that face was hilarious.
I'm more amazed that in 2008 you were able to film this review in 1080P 60fps 😁😋☺️
The D700 is still a great portrait machine 👍🏻
Omar, thank you for your humor 😂
Awesome video as always. I purchased a D700 a year ago. I love the images it produces, Baby!! 😂
I was just laughing at your facial expressions and delivery hahah great video!
You didn't mention the image quality - there's something about the way that sensor renders colours that is so unique
I have it and keep it for all my life ! You are so funny ! I love your videos so much (Fuji, Nikon, etc...). Thank you for all !
There's a certain irony to you joking about the D700 with futuristic capabilities like a "one-day" live view in the viewfinder while I'm sitting here literally considering selling off my D750 to instead GET a D700 for its colors, build and 12MP output. I have two of them!! Absolutely badass camera that produces stunning images!!
But, Omar... Does it have IBIS???
2008 was a year to remember for me. Went through Army basic training, attended my first semester of college and rented my first apartment. Also, this was before DigitalRev was the DigitalRev we all know and remember fondly. Wow.
A good camera is always a good camera, but this shows a good photographer can take good shots with any camera. Love your humour.
Omar is gifted with many talents, one them is humour 😂
Omar that was great 😂👌The images still look great 14 years later! LOL
Omar, if you ever get sick of photography you can have a career in comedy for sure.
Legend
1 month ago I exchanged Fujifilm xt20 for a well-preserved Nikon d700. I don't regret at all.
I fell back in love with photography with Fuji mirrorless cameras, and I’ll always love my X-T1 and X100, but I love using an OVF too much and I replaced them with a D700 and M9.
I can understand that.
I'll lend you my D800 for next month's video. Awesome camera!
Omar, I just bought from a friend a D700. Uf, I need to learn how to use it. What prime lens do you recommend for it? I like past the 50mm....
Omar i am from the future... and i wanna let you know this camera still rocks in the future and will be called the legend Nikon dslr.
Haha. It does (I mean WILL) rock.
That's my # 1 Dslr for street photography and some. Love it so much I bought another one with 90 clicks on it. Sensor made by Panasonic back then.
I'm selling my recently bought Fujifilm camera and going back to Nikon full frame DSLR, the one and only D700. What's wrong with that?
Nothing at all
Awesome! Only thing missing is 480p quality and 4:3 aspect ratio
Huge thumbs up! This is a great video! I love the d700 and really enjoyed this "time capsule" review.
3:27 this cracked me up. You should really consider going into comedy Omar xD
One of the best.camera nikon has ever made. Period!
can we just appreciate how Omar recorded 6min of video in less than 1 min? What a mad lad !
The D700 is incredible. It's made for taking photographs and will just keep doing it and doing it.
Omar should start a RUclips channel. He is really good at it, like on par with DigitalRevTV.
Made my day - brilliant video. I may pick one up one day.
Enjoyed this video so much, Omar. I got a NikonD700 along with my Fujifilm cameras. It’s a great old DSLR plus it’s built like tank !!! 👍👍👍
Very funny! I had a D700 back around then. I loved it. The finger grip was deep enough that I could hang the camera off just my finger tips. Best video ever!
Omar, you are amazing! Too funny 😂
That opened drawer on the left! I kept starring at it!
Still have my D700. Remember: that was the hottest pro-camera - the Baby D3 in 2009! I remember David Hobby and Joe McNally posting blog entries about them 😂... Good times...
I am still using Nikon D700 and D300. They are pretty good!

I still have my D90 and loved it till now 😁
Spring pictures during 12/20/08 ? :D
definitely not, no yeezy yet
Ah those memorable clip from Cameralabs and DigitalRev really brings me back to the time I hunt for my first DSLR
Honestly I don't see how digital photography could get much better at this point. I mean 5 fps and 12MP ? Who needs more ! Plus, the size for this performance is really reasonable. No way such a tech fits in a smaller body.
I am still using this camera with 24-70 2.8 lens. Planing to change to R6 this year.
Don't sell your D700 - you WILL regret it.
Picked one up for the nostalgia in great shape 5100 clicks with nice rubber still. I find myself using it more than my z6ii
Man, I really loved the pictures! Loved the video as well:)
The images that sensor produces are spectacular even in 2021. But today it's all about high megapixels and high FPS. For people who just love photography, this camera is a steal.
In terms of FPS, it's worth mentioning that it can hit 8 fps with a battery grip
Brother, this was a great intro! Thanks for making my day start with a smile on my face!
Still my main camera
You've gotta recreate some old mirrorless reviews from the early 2010s! Back when everyone questioned and doubted that mirrorless would become the standard lol good times.
@2:11 🤣🤣🤣 Hollywood awaits for you King.
Very funny Omar. But for real, the D700 has a sensor that makes amazing 12 mp images. I have many cameras that I tend to buy and sell, but the D700 is one that I will keep forever (along with my xt-20!)
@BRIAN WHAR Thanks Brian. I just learned about Super Resolution. Looking forward to using it.
With the grip that has the large battery it'll even shoot 8fps. Also the rubber cover for your grip contacts is missing.
F3 Hp with MD-4, bought in 1984; d700 with Motor bought in 2018 and d750 bought in 2018 and not the least capture on. What a Photographic Fun, for me, it is!

Had one myself, with 24-70 and 14-24... bought mine around 2010. Great camera!
This was the last camera I had before I switched over to the Fuji XT1. Omar this video was a lot of fun, and very funny. It actually was a great camera, but after switching to Fuji I sold all my Nikon gear -2 Nikon lenses that I use with adapters on my Fujis.
Love this vid, think if you could go back in time with the knowledge you have, but couldnt tell anyone. I think I would be smirking all the time.
Great idea and well executed!! :)
The sarcastic starw when you talked about never removing the exterbal physical dials and buttons for control. I laughed. Seriously thigh it's why i love old DSLRs. Everything can be externaly controlled. wish that would come back.
Great video Omar, I hope people get the message. Stay safe.
