had one and sold it off. missed it and tired sometimes of electronic viewfinder so just got another one with only 3200 shots on it. Used it on a portrait shoot a couple of days away and it blew me away yet again!! Damn this camera is so magical.
The D700 is THE LEGEND today. I have it, use it, love it. Recently I got myself a used D850. That one will be THE LEGEND over 20 years, I'm pretty sure about that.
Also an owner of a used D700. I can also vouch for the fact that this camera punches WAY above its weight considering it's an "old" camera with "only" 12MP. This camera allowed me to get a proper full-frame kit going, with great lenses (the AF-D range which are also great and more affordable), for well under $1000. 12MP is more than enough in most applications unless you're doing extra large prints or need to crop in substantially on your shots. For the latter, I would just recommend practicing getting the composition right in-camera so you don't need to worry about that, and you'll be more than satisfied with the results!
Seriously happy with the feedback from this beast …. I feel like our 700 community is real ;-) …. I shot a family with my D800 but the D700 was a back up …. The lens flare from the 700 on the sensor was epic. Also used a H2S on that shoot and the photos were again , great
Few things for folks interested in this camera. It favors a warmer color, which can get yellow redish in incandescent light. It only has 1 card slot, will produce some hot pixels in dark areas at high iso. Just some things to think about.
Hmm, yes and no. "Yellow redish" is totally correct for incandescent, nothing to do with the camera. But yes, it has a warm cast, which is good for portraits. Yes, I'd like a second card slot, but in over ten years only one card has ever given me trouble. No hot pixels I am aware of, but noise above 3200 iso certainly isn't anything worth writing home about. Still, that's at least one stop more than even most rigorous overdevelopping of film would give me, and by then grain would be an art in itself. Still, I agree you'll have to think about getting the D700. By today's standards it's no longer a pro camera, rather one for enthusiast amateurs. But in this category it really shines.
I have a D700 now because I wanted one so bad when it was released but couldn't afford it and settled for the D300s, which was tops in apsc at the time. I will keep my 700 until it quits.
I bought mine in 2008 along with a D3 for shooting weddings. My favorite thing about both cameras is something many of us pros love, “3D Focus Tracking”. It holds tack sharp focus instantly when triggered. Try it with the cheapest 50mm “Sneaker Zoom” and it will hold focus even when target moves in any direction.
I have one that I bought used on eBay some years ago. I also have three other digitals and seven film cameras; I try and rotate them. I shoot more film these days, so the 700 doesn't get out much. But I reckon it'll be great this coming weekend, when I'll have a few hours to kill around the beautiful city of Bath. I'm normally doing street photog with film so I'll switch to more arty stuff with the 700. Or I might slap a manual lens on and practise some zone focusing. This camera is proof that 12MP is plenty for the vast majority of use cases and the results show that photography is not about the latest gear.
I still have my original D70 6MP DX, great camera, made lots of great photos…. You can get replacement rubber grip as you said and it will look great. I also have a D300s I had converted to IR, was thinking of grabbing a D700 for conversion as well… wonderful machine.
I bought the D700 because of the sensor and because I need a break from looking at screens when I'm out shooting photography. I think this is a camera where you can treat it like a film camera, do very minimal PP and see great results. I do wish it was a couple 100g lighter but I think with prime lenses, it's not unbearably heavy.

You're wrong. Canon 5Ds/R does have a worse DR, because of crammed 50 MP onto just the 35mm (135 format, 36x24mm) Sensor. 50 MP onto just that pushes lenses to the limits - not only into 2015, but still nowadays, 9 years after the release, where only few lenses could resolve that massive 50 MP. Technically, it was a 5D Mark III body, with a slapped into 50 MP Sensor, and upgraded AF system. Check out lens reviews from trusted unbiased platform Optical Limits (former PhotoZone) many lenses, which scored fine via 21-22 MP (5D II, 5D III) are worse onto the 50 MP EOS 5Ds/r...into contrast, the tonality & rendition is better with >= 50 MP via Medium Format (44x33mm) Sensor.
The D850 is sooooooooo good ! Have not used it for video but as a tool for work it’s amazing ! If you own and use a D850 with decent glass AND an F6 for film …. You need nothing else
I think the D800 is now the best value full frame. It gets you 36 megapixels which is probably going to be the new standard for mirrorless. I know it's around 600 bucks but it gets you that resolution and a full frame sensor.
You brought up the pronunciation of the name "Nikon". Said you pronounced it like Americans. In matters of the English language, I usually side with British usage. But in this case, the Yanks have it I think. For instance, how would you pronounce the name "Simon"? I rest my case.
Instead of throwing your money away on cheap gear. Put it towards canon 5d s/r and some bigger hard drives. USB bus powered external drives are not expensive.

You can very much use the D700 for pro work. You want to use it for pro work!!
I was waiting for the hidden bonus track at the end.. 😢
That’s my terrible editing skills ! Honestly I only make videos to fuke my GAS as if it needs anymore gasoline ;-) …..
I have a D700 and its the closest digital equivalent to the F100 in my view.
I sold my F100…. My F4 my f5 all sold ….. but the D700 … she’s stays ;-)
Sticks with his D3200 and D810
Fan ! Huge huge fan of both !
Ur wrong. Canon 5ds/r are the best FF dslrs. For photos,I don’t need video. 50 Mega pixels.
Check out lens reviews from trusted unbiased platform Optical Limits (former PhotoZone) many lenses, which scored fine via 21-22 MP (5D II, 5D III) are worse onto the 50 MP EOS 5Ds/r...into contrast, the tonality & rendition is better with >= 50 MP via Medium Format (44x33mm) Sensor.
...and the best DSLR ever build bar none is the D850 simply, not the 5Ds/r twins, from any brand.
@@marcp.1752agreed D850 is the GOAT so is the D500 (APSC)
The D850 is sooooooooo good ! Have not used it for video but as a tool for work it’s amazing ! If you own and use a D850 with decent glass AND an F6 for film …. You need nothing else
I think the D800 is now the best value full frame. It gets you 36 megapixels which is probably going to be the new standard for mirrorless. I know it's around 600 bucks but it gets you that resolution and a full frame sensor.
Picked one up for $300 ish from KEH, the 36mp kills my editing rate but I do love it
It is the camera equivalent of the Mercedes pictured
I didn’t see a Mercedes in this video?
miss my D70, selling for canon a bad decision
If you ever use a M9P or a M8.2 from Leica.... you might become like me: I am reserved with superlative
Never shot one ! But I’m hoping too very soon for sure
You brought up the pronunciation of the name "Nikon". Said you pronounced it like Americans. In matters of the English language, I usually side with British usage. But in this case, the Yanks have it I think. For instance, how would you pronounce the name "Simon"? I rest my case.
How do the Japanese pronounce it?
Even tho I shoot digital medium format I still own my D700 from 2010. I’ll never give it up.
Eyecup!!
"Canon versions of this camera" - Huh?
Bro bought this many cameras and still takes photos full of motion blur
Just for the common good you should have one😅
Mines in a dire state lol ! Needs some love
D700 not d70
Sorry :-( …. My videos are off the cuff zero script so like many RUclipsrs , it can come out as pure nonsense:-(
Instead of throwing your money away on cheap gear. Put it towards canon 5d s/r and some bigger hard drives. USB bus powered external drives are not expensive.
For the money? A d610.
I do love the colors the 700 produce
It's just an old camera. I don't get this cultist obsession with old digital cameras.
In the case of the D700, older is BETTER. In the case of MOST things, older is better. Try to keep up.
I have a D810 as well as the D700, guess what I prefer to use 95% of the time? Yep, the D700. If you have experienced using this camera; you'll know.
D700 is the best camera for the money? wrong. it is an overrated camera and wont be serviced by nikon.
Beautiful image quality for sure. Thanks for the comment :-)) can you suggest an alternative for the viewers please
@@ΝικοςΖωχιος-χ8π oh i have s very good idea what a camera is. a d700 is among the good cameras. let there be no missunderstanding. the d700 was an average camera at lanuch. it is a waste of money now.
Why does he keep calling it "D70"?
