Another really interesting video (especially when combined with the maps) - thanks. The quality of construction/brick work of the tunnel on a branch line is astonishing.
Thanks for that. Brought back so many memories. I grew up in the Links. You used to be able to through that tunnel. It brought you out by an old water mill.
that part of the line from the brick tunnel behind the houses at invertiel road through the 2 filled in tunnels and along beach front went on to what was seafield collierie was known as the puggy line so called after the steam train engine which pulled the carriages full of coal on a smaller gauge track and the train was shorter in height than standard trains so that they could go direct into the coal mine and get loaded with the coal as it was freshly mined from the pit shafts of the conveyor and forwarded to its next destination . it is still possible to walk the old line cattle permitting hence the fence at the brick tunnel it passes up past golf club and many interesting spots along the way like a watermill and the old tower where the balwearie wizard once lived well worth the effort but in good weather though
Comparing the refuges with those in Glenfarg tunnel, there the tunnel bored through rock so brick facing was not required but at Invertiel the tunnel was made in the dirt embankment so nothing solid behind it. An interesting video of an area I know well.
Another very good video! Is the map you used available online anywhere? I'd love to see it. Hopefully I'll be able to visit Kirkcaldy again this year and explore some of this again myself!
Looked like it might have been a pathway or maybe they'd planned to make one but scrapped the idea. The steps in the grass were properly built, so who knows? Genuine question..... Anyone know? lol
Very interesting! I've lived in Kirkcaldy for many years but never new about this. I must go and take a look myself.

It is isn't it? I thought so too. Really nice brickwork for its age too. Hopefully doesn't get too much abuse on a regular basis.

Might have to take a wee wander beyond the fence and see if there are any remains.

Thank you Laz. Just another of our hidden treasures. Lots of people pass it each day and unaware of the history of it.

The council could make that tunnel into a bit of a mini skate park for the kids they would be out of the weather
