Really enjoyed this video. You tell it like it is and made me smile. I have bought the other version of this (without the trem. Don't like cheap trem systems) Keep doing what your doing.
Hi Brent, I like the CST style guitar and plan to purchase the Thomann DIY Kit. I bought the LesPaulStyle Kit and decided to keep the wood as it is because it looked pretty well. I sanded the factory applied sealer very gently from 240 up to 600 grid, applied 3 layers of shellac based sanding sealer and finished it wit 6 layers of shellac finish as i do with my woodturned bowles... I mixed it from shellac flakes and denaturated alcolhol. The grain turned out very nicely but the finish is not as solid as polyurethane laquer. Hopefully the manufacturing quality is higher than on the LesPaul, the neckpocket was misbuilt and i had to take off a slim slice of the neckfoot to get the right neck angle... that was a pain in the butt... but finally lead to a result. Cheers Stefan
Depending on how involved you want to get, you could remove the sealer, glue on a fancy veneer and strain that, then finish in a high gloss poly or nitro after you dowel and redrill those post holes.
Brent Hutchinson I just purchased this kit today, should be in the states by the 7th, it will be interesting to see if the same wiring and drilling issues are on the kit I receive. I’ve done a few nitrocellulose finishes before but haven’t worked with dye or veneers either. I might give it a go this time around.
Michigan here. ordered same kit December 2022. It is now March 2023. Have the same problem with the 2 pin tremolos with my kit. Going to dowel and re drill them.
Just got mine today and after watching this had to make sure my tremolo pins fit! I haven't put it together yet and thankfully those fit just fine. I hope I don't get any surprises with this one like the missing neck plate for my DC kit! Planning to do a purple burst on mine, getting seriously excited to start!!
My trem pins were okay also but the guitar body had a small ding/pit on the back that looks like they had tried to sand it. Fortunately it will be mostly hidden by the neck plate. No assembly instructions but I can download these from Thomann
Awsome video man. I just ordered my kit today. Mine will be a metallic purple with gold hardware. Think prince. Lol I'm putting my own hardware and electronics in mine. I'm excited to get mine and get started.
i was lucky with my kit, the only issue i had was the string height adjuster on A string was faulty machinery. Contacted Thomann and they sended a spare part directly and arrived a couple of days afterward :) dont know how my tuner screw was, when i bought seperat tuner screw
Thank you lots! I'm thinking of acquiring this exact one! Did anyone else have a problem with the bridge screw sockets? Now I got kinda chickened out by this.

How’s it going man, I’ve one of these kits built but am having problems with the top two neck bolt screws going the full way in, meaning the neck isn’t snug against the body of the guitar. Did you find any troubles with this at all? Cheers
Oye, Brent my dude! Thanks for doing a video for this kit. I was thinking if it is worth for a newbie like me to actually get this kit. What do you reckon?
I still think you should try a hydro dip with some red and blue with some white maybe, I dunno about colours but its an interesting process and would make a good video. Nice guitar and great playing.
Nice kit guitar. Shame about the bridge poles and neck plate hole. But as you know it can be fixed. I really like your idea for the paint job. Something different that could look awesome! 👍
Hey everyone, I just got this guitar for my birthday and I wanted to know somethings before I use it. I want to use it as clean sound guitar, for some little sweet licks, would you recommend to change the mics for it??
Great vid. I just bought one of these, and I'm going to paint it with the acrylic pour method, then sell it as "art". It's a good kit for the money, and you could spend less than £100, to make it a good guitar. Replace the nut, tuners and trem bridge with guyker. Job done.
Make the middle stripe subtle. The Pieces of wood either side could have an almost black stain ('Dark Jacobean' is a goodie) and the middle would look great with a slightly lighter brown (but still dark), would give the guitar a more expensive custom look overall. I have some old guitars by the Vintage brand, and these had that type of extended heel that goes underneath the neck pickup. Instead of short screws that actually used proper bolts. I even converted two 'S' types into a similar thing, which had metal threaded inserts in the neck heel and then the bolts pull the two pieces of wood together to create and even better wood-to-wood contact than the usual wood screws. Always thought Fender should do this instead of wood screws, no future chance of having to having to put in a dowel and redrill. Any thoughts on a thicker, cold, rolled steel sustain block somewhere down the line?
The CST 24 T is a very cool guitar. I have the P90 in blue flame and the humbucker version in green. I don't know if I would be brave enough to build it- the quality control on my Single cut kit was terrible, so I don't know if I'd feel like putting the energy into fixing flaws on the kit. Never had a problem with a finished instrument, but I am still not a fan of their kits. I always picture someone who isn't comfortable modding a messed up kit I get mad on their fictitious behalf! Any chance you'd paint it red in honor of LFC winning the Premiership?
@@BrentHutchinson YES! you guys have real football. We just have idiots in helmets running into each other while they have the ball in hand. Dumb... That's great though!
so... I want to get this kit, but it will cost me at least $70 for shipping + whatever VAT fees I have to pay. Do you think this kit is worth (what I am estimating will be) about $200 US?

Strangely enough ordered the exact same kit Sunday and its getting delivered tomorrow....not interested in a tremelo bridge - any suggestions what bridge to replace it with?
@@Forest_Fifer what I would really like is the cst24 hollow body and was going to buy one but they put the price up last month from £185 to £225 - a whopping 20% increase. Shame they do not do it as a kit
Why would you assemble that without addressing those simple problems first? You are just wasting time without really building that kit, that's why it's called a kit!

Wholly Crap Brent. Freakin' Brilliant opening track Man!

Nice video! Cherry stain was my first thought when I first saw it. to a nice high gloss it'll be both classic and classy
Good choice! Red seems to be popular choice... would you go with the whole front red or have the natural wood stripe down the middle?
@@BrentHutchinson I wasn't thinking about a stripe. either works.

A metallic color sprayed on would be great!
nice vid mate, i vote metallic red on top, with natural sides and back :)
Nice chops man. Had a Steely Dan vibe at the beginning.
Thanks
A few issues but I still like it, nothing that cant be fixed...Question is what finish shall I do on this?
I still think you should try a hydro dip with some red and blue with some white maybe, I dunno about colours but its an interesting process and would make a good video. Nice guitar and great playing.
bought some crimson guitar stains (denim blue and cherry red) but if the grain is nice might just put some satin varnish on
I’d say try some stain and a gloss nitro over the top of it.
Great job even with the faults on the kit! Back and sides brown with a nice bright colour on the top a fiery orange maybe? 🔥🔥🔥 😁
Great idea!!
Whats about sustain man?
Just fine for most things

i like the idea of matt black back and centre strip on front with gloss black on the rest of the front.
Yummy

I think go dark satin blue but leave a bare wood double racing stripe like a dodge viper! 😃
Maybe glue the neck as well as bolt it in? Kind of looks like a set neck with holes.
Good Idea
I would go with bright green and bright purple, matching headstock.
lol noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
I got the stop bar version but even with the manual and I can't figure where the ground cable is supposed to go, please 🥺 help??
Connect it to the bridge post
I did mine with a gold top and natural back and sides.
Ahh sounds awesome
may i please know what is the radius?
Thanks for making this vid, is the neck profile like the production cst24?
Its very Sim to the HB35 I cant remember what the neck was like on my old CST 24. It is chunkier than the Strat and Tele kit necks.
...A nice "wood" or "transparent stain" would be "REAL" sweet!!!...
