This is so cool ! I have been playing guitar on multiple recordings.. one time i was about to play my line alone in the studio and then the producer was counting down. So i put my guitar on my lap. I happened to have a banana in my pocket which i splashed with my guitar. So i screamed " i have a banana in my pocket". A memory all the people in the studio still know lol.

This is from the documentary "Elvis, That's The Way it is", 1970. The released version of this is one of my favorites. It's a cover of the BJ Thomas song, and Elvis did it quite well!
Elvis surrounded himself with the best musicians and singers, and yes they performed very intuitively.

I wouldn't say the entire documentary. I could have done without those terrible interviews with people saying how their mother's cat loves Elvis and if I don't like this film I'm gonna write them a dirty letter. Gees where did they get those people. They also could have cut out that whole German fan club auctioning that bike with that crazy guy singing Tiger Man! What a waste. It was supposed to be about Elvis getting ready (rehearsing) for his Las Vegas engagement and live performance. There has been so much more that has been released since then that could and should have been included in the original release.

I don't understand why they blocked the whole song. I've watched the whole rehearsal on UTube. This is a shame because it gives you insight how he directed his band and backup singers. He produced the whole works. Sometimes he would make them rehearse several hours on one song until he got the sound he wanted. You can also see his fun side in rehearsals. There are a couple of videos of him rehearsing that are entertaining, but also shows how smart he was in putting his music together. He didn't write his songs but he did everything else! He never got credit for being the genius he was!
