  • The 2006 Rolex 24 at Daytona marked Dan Wheldon's debut racing for Chip Ganassi. Paired with Scott Dixon and Casey Mears, Wheldon's #02 car led the majority of the 24 Hour race and won easily.
Wheldon's aggressive nature nearly ended the race early for the team. In a 2012 article by Jeff Olson (linked below) team manager Mike Hull explained the gearbox was damaged after his first stint.
"(Dan) was rock-crushing the gearbox like it was a two-hour race," said Mike Hull "When he got out of the car, he got pummeled by everyone on the timing stand about what he was doing to the car. But he didn't just go back to his motor coach to sleep or play video games. He stayed there and rehearsed what he needed to do the next time he got in the car."
