  • Sizzle is a male Cinnamon Pied Kakariki. He was hatched in April 2016.
    He learns very quickly and says many words. He knows other words that are not in this video. I will make a new one with his new words soon. #LoveofPets

      Janine Boutel yeah my baby girl could say hat and hey. She was super sweet but sadly she passed yesterday from an egg getting stuck in her system she was only one and a half which was really chocking, It came so sudden I felt crushed finding her at the bottom of her cage in the morning. So be careful 🥰 birds are very fragile animals.

    Smart kak! I have never seen one in person but know they are rare in the US. Are they known to be good talkers? Males or females? Just know they are very active and not cuddly like the Tiels. Do they have the same diet as the cockateils?
    Beautiful and immaculate set up as always. I guess the big mirror doesn't affect Kakis personality unlike Budgies.

      They are hard to find here also, the males are better talkers than the females. The females are known to talk as well. They are very active and never sit still. They are not cuddly birds. He steps up and flies away and comes back and goes away, lol. They are a fun bird if you want to watch them. They like to explore. I feed him a cockatiel mix, pellets and a small parrot diet, he loves alot of veggies. He holds food in his feet and forages like a chicken and makes a mess with his food. The mirror does not affect his personality like a budgie. He flies to the mirror and then to my head and says give me a kiss and takes off again, lol They are very fun to have.

      teardropface My mom has several for sale right now. We live in the upper part of the United States in Bellingham, WA. I am researching them because my husband just got one from her. He is so funny already at 3 months that I wanted to see what they enjoy as a pet bird in the future. Looks like he will make an awesome pet. My husband named him Yogurt. 🙂🐥

    My kakariki makes the exact same sound, i think this means he feels lonely. When my kakariki heard it he got angry, cranky noises. I also have one kakariki but i'm looking to bring him a friend. He's probably calling his mirror image because he wants someone to play with ..

  • @troublingleaf

    Nice bird, do other kakariki owners find that their nails grow unusually fast? I have to trim his nails monthly, sometimes more. I also have a conure and his nails never need doing, and both have a great (identical) diet, so surely that can't be it!

    • @Loveofpets

      It is known that Kakarikis nails grow fast and so do linnies.
      I had to clip Sizzles nails monthly as well. My Java finch and canaries nails grow fast but not my other birds

    How long did it take for your Kakariki to start repeating you? I got one just before Christmas and he’s still in the squalking and clicking phase 😂

      It didn't take too long, its been a while but I think it took a few weeks and once he was talking he learned by the next day

    What are kakariki like as pets?
    Especially compared to say...a cockatiel?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 года назад +4

      Kakariki's are so energetic compared to Cockatiels. They don't sit still and don't like to be touched like a Cockatiel does.
      They jump and hop and are always on the go. They do make very cute sounds and are more quiet than a male cockatiel.
      They are very messy as they dig through their food bowl like a chicken, lol.
      I may make a video on this as it's a good subject.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  3 года назад +1

      Hi, I repeated words over and over as much as I could. Once he said one word I moved onto the next word or phrase. Some of the words he overheard me saying like calling my dog and he repeated it.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  7 лет назад +3

      Males are better at talking but some females may learn to talk but only say a few words but you never know they may be has talkative as a male. I have a female Linnie that talks up a storm.

    • @oregami93

      I have a kakariki pair and the male only talks to complain cry about wanting a stroll outside the cage or more food, and the female is talking almost non stop (unless the male makes her hahaha)
