I think the biggest challenge with white in winter isn't really about aesthetics, but about things getting dirty easily. Anything white I'd wear in winter would get covered in slush and muck in about ten seconds flat. Especially white jeans or anything on my lower half.
I think it depends where you’re going doesn’t it, mine were absolutely fine for this trip for example, but wouldn’t work in deep snow or the middle of the countryside (but that goes for any time of year) - it just depends I think
@@elliejeanroyden Or maybe you're just less prone to getting dirt on everything than I am! I swear, white clothes have a magnetic attraction to mud, dirt, and orange foods on me.
@@lapetitepoire5 Same, I do not have the lifestyle for white clothes. I like to sit on the ground, kneel in the grass, lean up against trees, etc. If I have a bit of dust or flour or what have you on my hands I like to be able to brush them against my jeans, no worries. Even if I manage to keep my clothes pristine while I'm out, I'll come home and that will be the moment my cat wants to jump on me with muddy paws. Thankfully I'm fairly certain I'm a soft summer, so having a wardrobe of mostly greys, greens, blues, and other earth tones is great for my lifestyle. 😅
When I go on a city trip, my best strategy is to build all of my outfits around my two most comfortable pairs of shoes (fitting for the season of course) in a way that I can mix and match everything. Afterwards I add a few more special items like maybe an evening going out look in case I'm planning to go out.
Also I'm loving the bag. I would totally get it myself if I were into shoulder bags. Unfortunately, I need my bags to be attached to me, so cross body bags it is.
Aww! Your mom is adorable. "Are you going to take your white scarf and I'll take your black scarf? Then we can swap." That's the cutest 😊 I love the English country girl outfit! It might me my favorite. Now I'm questioning whether I'm really American.
These tips are super helpful! Another good one is to try on all the outfits you're planning to pack (especially with any new pieces or combinations you've never created before). What used to happen to me was that I would pack things I thought would go together but sometimes they didn't and I ended up not wearing some of the things I had packed because of this.
That bag is amazing! The mahogany strap/sides really pop against the black jacket, almost coming off as deep red. Yet, the face of the bag matches so well with your camel coat, and the mahogany appears more brown. 😊❤️
Loved this video. I love the idea of filling your wardrobe with pieces you like so that when you decide to take a trip you don’t have to go out and buy a bunch of new things. Thanks for the reminder that what we already have is good enough, no, actually it’s really good. Spend your time building a great wardrobe so that when you decide to take a trip you have the freedom to just go.
The whole time you were trying on the skirt and leggings outfits I kept thinking "put on the black booties". When you did, perfection! The brown boots are cute but they cut you off.
I'm looking for ideas, as I'm coming to London for the Christmas Markets! These were great suggestions and your Mom is an absolute treasure! Hope you all had a wonderful time and that you get to do more and more travelling in the future! Thank you for sharing!
your explanation of sandwiches has been my biggest fashion epiphany this year and can't wait to utilize it in different ways with colors, textures, prints, etc. LOVE love your content!!💖💋
I LOVED this video Ellie! I completely agree that you don't need to buy a whole new wardrobe when you go away, but somehow it always happens to me 😝 I'm off to Reykjavik soon and I bought so many new things because I've never visited anywhere so cold before, but it's all stuff I can wear again for any other winter breaks so I'm really pleased with what I've got. (In fact I put my haul up with all those bits today!). I absolutely LOVE the Coach bag with the tan boots, so so beautiful! I think this is the perfect travel capsule.
Your laugh is so cute! ❤ I really like your videos, I have learnt so much from you and I teach my friends what I have learnt. Now I get a lot more compliments since I discover my style, style roots and colour season (not the body type yet 😅 ) I can see you are passionate about this and that's really nice! Keep going Ellie! Greetings from Germany 🙂
I love the English Country Girl look (amd I'm American) ... and all of your looks! Very cool and confident. The leopard top is a keeper. Also your hair is lovely, you look super. You would also look totally sharp in a blunt one length longish (just a bit below your chin) bob. You are a Beautiful person, just a thought that this hairstyle would go with your classic body type and capitalize on your Ethereal essence. Love your videos and appreciate your esthetic and talent.
This was super helpful and inspiring! I've already downsized my wardrobe a few months ago, but feel like I should go through it again. There's definitely pieces in there that I just never wear or feel super uncomfortable in.
I loved the idea of basing the outfits in a favorite piece and going from there. I loved how you had all the pieces working together so that you had a lot of different options. Great video!
Cute holiday capsule! I really like the cream sweater, jeans, boots + camel coat look. Actually I just thrifted the same & other stories sweater from Vinted and I'm excited to wear it, I have a similar coat but my boots are black - but I'm inspired to try a similar look too with some black accessories in place :)
I love this video! Would you do one of these videos for the other seasons? I'm traveling for 6 weeks and would love to have Inso for Spring/Summer traveling capsule wardrobe!
Great video! I travelled for 2 months through Europe with one suitcase. I used the same principles, but a lot more layering because of the weather and style variations. I wore a lot of blacks and neutrals. Typically my outfits are very well thought out, but in that case I was thinking about function, layering (thin, thick, outerwear etc) and compatibility of different kinds along with overall weight. I also had swimwear, travel towels, toiletries and 3 pairs of shoes; boots, sneakers and flats. I wore my heaviest/largest items on planes most of the time. Edit: I forgot to say, you should try the cream cardigan white skirt outfit again but try different tights/boots? It looks quite heavy and unblanced and there are a lot of different intesities and temperature of colours going on. You might just need to pull the colour into something else- but obviously this is a limited wardrobe.
I think the idea of buying a new wardrobe to take on holiday is culturally a very UK thing. When I lived there I was amazed that my friends would spend a small fortune on new clothes for a weekend away
Omg! I think I needed this video! I have an international fall trip this year. And honestly aside from the trip itself my biggest concern is outfits. I don’t want to take a lot cause I want to bring some of anything hehe but this is a great help! In bringing outfits that can build not one but many outfits. Also trying them on before the trip is smart. Thank you
Really cute video! Could you do one for more ✨crazy✨ style roots like sun, moon and fire? I rarely see capsule wardrobe ideias outside black and tan options
Really like the idea behind the video! Maybe you could share what you would wear for different cities like a New York or Paris version! Would love to see that, especially because I am going to New York soon :-)
It was so enjoyable to watch, thank you! And can you please tell what is the name for that wardrobe app that you used on your iPad at the beginning of the video?
My skintone is warm n delicate im an autumn im a romantic body style ans I love the earth academia safari outdoor texture english look for my personal style and LOVE YOUR BOOTS 👢 over your jeans!❤ I love all of your outfits they are amazing!!😊
Hi dear, after you consultation Im obsessed with all you videos, thanks for the tips... Im quite curious about how will you look on a caribbean trip, `cause you said that kind of crop top look (dinner time #2) is a little bit sexy and I found it so much on my wardrobe (Panama is quite hot the whole year)... hahaha... heat and humidity change some rules... thanks for the tips and more about the color one (just choose one palette), I didnt think about it, I just came back from a trip in dominicab republic and my capsule was a whole disaster.
I would love to see the exact tan boot, but the link is not working. Can you check it please? Love those boots! Very neutral style and goes with so much! 🤎
I've been wanting to email you my style issue right now: how to do outfit variations when you hate skirts/dresses. I definitely feel like I just have the same outfit over and over again because my bottoms options are mostly jeans (but I have black and white jeans in addition to jeans colors, and fake leather trousers as well)
Getting more interesting pants. A different cut like flared bottoms. Different textures so it's still one color but a patterned texture if you know what I mean. A pattern in general. These can still be even black and white. Don't just stick to jeans or skinny jeans or plain old dress pants. Obviously I can't see what you own and not knowledgeable on many terms but I hope this helps. Try flared jeans where there are two separate fabrics. Try some with multiple to no buttons.
What was the exact color of your cream jumper? (White?) it really does look great on you! I’m also a summer and struggle so hard to find a white or cream/beige that doesn’t clash for me by being to clear or warm.
If anyone ever wondered how Japanese girls survive winter still wearing skirts and sweaters and lighter clothing (their winter school uniforms really aren’t that warm either) the answer in Uniqlo Heattech lol
I have some curl in my hair for sure - with the right styling I can bring it out, but I actually feel like I look a mess with curly hair, it’s just doesn’t work so well with my facial features, but sometimes find it fun!
Your outfits seemed to be far less feminine than usual. Not sure if it's as you said, for the city you went to, or just because they're winter clothes. It got me thinking that winter is a hard season to dress feminine for. And I love feminine! I would love to see a video/short with ideas!
Having your luggage in the hold and having just a tiny carry on bag that can fit under the seat is the best luxury for a holiday, if I can't afford to do that, I won't go on a holiday.
I really love this style of video Ellie! If you enjoyed having to work within the constraints of a carry-on you could totally make this a series! Pick somewhere (Italian countryside, English castle, southern French city) and make a capsule wardrobe for each of them - or as you're a Kibbe enthusiast you could put together alternative capsule wardrobes for the different Kibbe types 👀 Some constructive criticism as well (from someone who does exactly the same thing, so I get it!), as some portions of your video are unscripted, you sometimes start a sentence without knowing where it's going or fully forming it so you end up stalling, using filler words or just thinking mid-sentence which disrupts your flow and seems to knock your confidence. I'd recommend either scripting or just re-recording once you have the perfect sentence - or practising what I'm going to call 'mindful speaking' where before starting a sentence you think what the goal of it is, and constructing it around that. i.e. Goal= Lines. Additional goal as you're filming and can re-record= skirt, colour block. Sentence= I think this outfit also follows my lines, because the skirt is (xyz) shape and the colour blocking is what gives it (xyz) Kibbe lines. I've always had this problem and regular notes have never worked for me, but I find this system really helps!
