  • Hello RUclips Family! In today’s video, I’m building a winter travel capsule wardrobe. We will talk about smart, minimalist packing, why I believe in travel capsuling, and we will finish off with several great outfits for winter travel! This is a chatty, fun, and longer video, but I hope that the information is useful for you! This video was made because of a holiday trip to New York, so I also talk about how you can still go on trips to colder places even if you don’t own cold-weather staples like snow boots or a wool coat. I hope you found some inspiration for your next winter trip or for you next outfit if you live in a chilly climate. As always, thanks for watching. Love, love, love - Lauren

I really enjoy your channel! But I do think as someone who lives in New York, that you need a warm coat. You need not so many layers because you’ll be hot on the subway. What you need is maybe a warm cashmere turtleneck and jeans with tights and boots with wool socks and one puffer coat with a hood. Otherwise you’re going to be very uncomfortable especially in the cold weather it’s it’s a bone chilling cold, but the subway is hot. If you plan to eat outdoors you will need to be warm because the heating lamps can only do so much. Have a safe and pleasant trip!

I second this when I lived there I had one coat for dressier and another coat for when it was wet and that was it. All them layers would make me too hot. A coat and nice boots would be an investment if you go to cold weather climates again.

You got it going on, girl! I love your style and "common sense" approach. Perfect inspiration for my Alaska Cruise - taking a carry on only.

All great looks! Im curious to see if you will be warm enough in the evening as NY is a walking city. As someone who lives in a place with 4 seasons and having travelled to NY many times (although I do run cold) I would need a much thicker coat, especially at night. I think for anyone who travels to a cold climate occasionally a second hand longer wool wrap or button up coat which has enough room underneath to layer a light puffer and thick sweaters is essential. If it’s a simple style, It will last for many years if not forever. For me A great coat in such a cold place is like having shorts in Hawaii. Have a great time there! It’s magical during the holidays!

This is so refreshing because it is so practical. I actually get so mad when I see youtubers or Pinterest photos where women are wearing big wool coats , turtlenecks, scarves with heels and bare feet in the middle of winter or completely bare legs with a skirt and little Chelsea boots.

I want to see a vlog! And here to say I think you’ll want a warmer and/or longer coat in the city. Was just there for thanksgiving and the temperatures ranged from 30-50 (so objectively not that cold) and I was thankful to have a long parka!!

You can get rid of the baseball cap since you'll most likely be wearing the white hat more to keep your ears warm. The reason why is because in the city tons on wind tunnels. Wool socks and base layers, not just long johns but also a base layer top (Uniqlo has great top under layers). Also gloves. I didn't see any gloves. In terms of your beautiful boots make sure you have protection on it against salt so that way the salt doesn't stain the leather. If you can borrow a wool jacket or a parka that would be a suggestion as well. ( I live in Toronto so not that far from NYC so similar weather) Enjoy New York! It's such a fun city!

as opposed to what everyone else in the comments is saying, I think your capsule is perfectly suited for the cold, especially with the long underwear option! Not a new yorker, but i do live in a similar, if not cooler climate, and I've spent the past two winters toasty warm WITHOUT a proper winterjacket😂 Layering a lot really did the trick for me, and as long as you keep moving it's all good

I love your channel! I am just afraid you will be cold with those jackets. The puffer will probably be the only one you wear in NYC!

Enjoy your trip and time with your family Lauren! Looking forward to your new content when you're ready. I do like travel capsules, I always find it's the perfect way to explain capsule wardrobing to those who don't know what it is: if you had very little space, what would you pack on a trip, bearing in mind things have to go together and be appropriate for the weather and occasions you're most likely to face. Everybody creates a capsule wardrobe when they pack! Ideally, at least :-)

Hope you enjoy your trip to New York ! I’ve lived in New York most of my life ! Grew up in the Bronx then moved to the tip of Manhattan ( Inwood ) I dress in layers, if Iam wearing a puffer jacket I usually only need a long sleeve cotton tshirt ( or thermal ) a flannel shirt and if I need it a hat, scarve and gloves if my puffer has a hood then I don’t need a hat ! When I wear a wool coat I wear a cashmere turtleneck or crewneck sweater a scarf, hat and gloves ! If I have enough room I’ll wear a thin vest, I think if you wear a hat on a cold windy day you should be warm enough also warm boots like Ugg’s or any boot with a Sherpa lining helps ! Thanks for sharing ! Enjoy

I love your style! You always give me a ton of inspiration. I love a corduroy.
I'm always terrified of packing a suitcase and put off until the last possible moment. I hope to work on tackling this task better in the future.

Hopefully you’ve got some wool socks! Even in New Mexico in the mountains for winter, I sometimes need to double layer thin wool socks, esp if you don’t have winter-insulated boots. Thin wool socks can still be used comfortably in SoCal. SmartWool is my favorite, but Costco also has a 4-pack of thin wool socks.
