  • Do not adopt or buy a german shepherd until you know what you're getting into. These are not pets they're large animals that need training and exercise. Consult a professional for further training where needed.

I would totally agree with you, I've always had them from pups from age of 16 I'm now 65. But my last two from five years ago both rescies, I can honestly say ill never ever have a puppy again. The two i rescued turned out to be the most amazing gsd's ive ever ever had, and privlaged to be part of there lives.

I am in the process of adopting a German Shepherd from China who was a SLAUGHTERHOUSE dog. He is currently in quarantine to verify if he has rabies. I just submitted an application to adopt another German Shepherd from Vermont who was never socialized with other dogs and people. He was kept in a crate for several years and never given a name.
I actually grew up with German Shepherds and have a vast knowledge abou about them.
In the Navy I was in charge of the Canine Corps that had lots of German Shepherds.
They CAN BE EXTREMELY PROTECTIVE OF THEIR FAMILY AND ESPECIALLY THE CHILDREN.
Regardless of age they are all trainable.

Sounds like you’ll have your hands full with the two different origins BUT I LOVE that you save I’m presuming a Yulin dog- I donate to them every year (the people trying to save the dogs) good for you and good luck!!!

I wish more people heard your message because the shelters are now filled with kennel after kennel of young, purebred GSDs, surrendered by people who understood NOTHING about their exercise and training needs.

Last year I had my gsd, first dog for me. I didn't know what I was getting into. My life has changed, but for good. Be ready for at least 400hours of exercise a year

I just discovered your video and I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed it. I have 3 German Shepard’s .A 1 year old male , a 4 year old female and her mother who is 7 years old. I adopted each one and I absolutely love them. They are without a doubt the most loyal and loving breed there is. Again , I really enjoyed your video and appreciate the information and guidance.

hello, i am thinking of adopting a 1 year old female german shepherd but i am worried, the centre says she is not aggressive but i am worried about not being able to form a bond with her since she will be old and her getting agitated and i also i might have to leave her at home for a few hours with my mom and i am worried if something happens then, do you have any advice?

Excellent video. I plan on adopting either a German Shepherd puppy or older one. If I adopt a puppy, I need to learn how to potty train,. I have fostered two dogs before, each for a few months, however, I have never had a puppy. Neither of the dogs were German Shepherds, so this would be an amazing new experience.

I'm thinking of adopting a gsd, slightly older dog, not a puppy, any tips? Anything I should look out for when viewing? I'm a first time owner

Look for obedience. Also dog aggression is hard to beat. Do they stay with you when you walk/call them. Get them around people and dogs to see how they act. Everything else is easy!

Key is exercise- I won’t lie. Some of the old ones especially those that have been caged and or abused take a couple years to adjust but they are so smart with enough patience they’ll come around. One of my hardest ones that I thought was a lost cause is sleeping behind me with my 2 yr old climbing on her. Trust snd exercise goes a long way- kinda like people.
