This is a video of me landing a Navy C-2A Greyhound on the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, somewhere over the Persian Gulf a few years back. If we’re not flying out distinguished visitors or transporting important parts, more often than not we’re hauling out hundreds of pounds of mail to the 5,000 sailors onboard.

What I learned from this video is one should never attempt to land a C-2 on an aircraft carrier without a mustache.
Seriously? I mean, obviously! Why would you even attempt ANYTHING without an epic mustache!?
Truer words have never been spoken.
Standard issue military style PORN moustache!!!!
Mustaches wings for your face
Amazing Vids! Watching this makes me want to get a fake stash to power through my day!😭 although facial hair is NOT cute on a woman.🤦♀️
Pretty tight racetrack, little room for error, much respect mustacios.
Haha, thanks Bill!
My son in law’s lifetime best friend and our family friend is a Navy C2 Greyhound pilot. Has told us some stories. And he has NO MOUSTACHE!
“With great moustache...comes great responsibility!” -Peter Griffin
Has the feel of a Vietnam war film with those moustaches.
My son and I had just watched this and made comments with the voice of Cleveland and Quagmire.....Then I saw your perfect comment.
Damn! You got there before me!
Title change!
Wing's for your face
Surprisingly, I found this C-2's bank and direct landing to be more exciting than the majority of similar F-18 videos...
Yea, I think I would have be way too far to the right had I not wrapped up that turn.
But it sure does look cool!
@@flyrobroy I am definitely no expert, but it was very pleasant to see : no big corrections, just a single smooth manoeuver !
Thank you for posting that, we don't get enough C-2 and E-3 (or even helicopter) content !
@@flyrobroy Not much room to the right with all those aircraft to avoid.

Yeah, I don't want to take away from those fighter jet guys skills, but I agree with you... hahaha
Nice finish! Thats a better view than watching from the six pack or vultures row!
I was on the flight deck for 20 years is an aviation ordnanceman these guys are tough never lost one
Been a couple crashes since then
We lost one, Dec., 1970 in the Tonkin Gulf. USS Ranger. My good friend William Stewart died. We recovered his body and one crew man.
Was on cvn 73, friend of my fell of the the FD at bow cat. He was recovered. He thought GM were gonna shoot him. We did MOB, few minutes after we hit our racks. Lost some sleep but glad he's alive.
I know almost nothing about flying however I do know that you are the very best at what you do. Holy crap, there is nothing routine about landing anything on a moving, pitching target, let alone a prop..
Thank you so much for your service and everyone else that has served. I especially give thanks to those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for all of us on this Memorial weekend 2022. I salute you all.
Thanks Kevin - we all appreciate the kind words.
Great job guys! I think everyone is gonna miss the Greyhound. Helluva plane. Their mission is sorely under appreciated.
@@SSSoul3 wtf were you on when you wrote this
I will just say plausible deniability.
Now for something crazy enough that I’ll know was written by me later even in a state of slight inebriation. “If your into whales, don’t look at Pygmy whales because they look like they are underage.” It’s not healthy family behavior.
That’s an amazing landing. Gosh I couldn’t begin to imagine how stressful that would be. Thank you for your service. From a former Marine. Semper Fi. 🤠
Glass sea and daylight these lads kept their natural colors.
North Atlantic high seas, and a no moon night.
I havent seen a Naval Aviator yet that didn’t turn a dead mans shade of green. I don’t care how many traps they have in their log.
Then they have to keep their sh!t together and focus on the correct pair of waving wands while they get taxied around a slippery deck.
Me I was a considerate turd shirt. I’d climb the ladder, lean them back in the seat, and plug their Oxygen back in. Then un belt them and tidy the cockpit up a bit.
Tote their gear down the ladder so they could focus on their dismount.
Fly NAVY! My cousin is also a C-2 Pilot. He is a CQ instructor for his squadron.
Very cool!
so friggin awesome.....spent 30 days on comfort after haiti earthquake as a civilian volunteer. navy aviation is the greatest. flew cod from jax nas to port au prince thru gitmo...wow what an experience. thanks for all you do and your guts and skill..fascinating videos will share!!!
I believe comedian Russell Peters mentioned he landed on a carrier on a Greyhound for one of his military comedy tours. After the landing he said during the show he did on the carrier, he looked up on some med website that the lining of the human sphincter can physically extrude outside the body by 5 inches if gravitational forces made it so and then pop back into place. He told the carrier audience that he felt the 5 inches doing its thing during his landing. Everyone was rolling on the ground laughing.
That’s hilarious 🤣
😂💪
Job well done! 81 foot wingspan, as opposed to a super hornet's 45 foot span. And that deck was loaded. All respect from me.
Is that what makes them one of the harder to trap? He mentions that in the description.
It takes a special person to be a COD pilot. I was quite happy with my P-3s (A, B Mod, C Update II, C Update III) The best thing they never put on a P-3 was a tail hook.
Blues Traveler, John Popper!: “The Hook!, BRINGS YOU BACK!”, MMM_eye{Gods}Shot at my past iv addiction.... “GET IT RIGHT, and Quit!”, or you might not live to regret it!” FAITH FLYS WITHOUT A HOOK! ... FEEL IT AND YOU WONT HAVE TO GO BACK! Love this !GRAVY! -Boat🤟🏼🤟🏽🤟🏾🤟🏿🤟🤟🏻
Gonna miss the P3s flying over my house near NAS JAX
I have full confidence in those moustaches.
Great landing sir! Thank you both for your service and epic video.
the crazy thing is, they don't have an ejection seat or afterburner.
After Prop.
No, but they do have more than 8000 horese power at full power !
So very true...
Who needs all that when you have a personal flotation device?
Pretty impressive, but what else can one expect from guys sporting those mustaches?
It’s been scientifically proven that the mustache improves one’s aviation skills at least 43%...
Hahaha I half expected a white scarf round his neck and permanently billowing behind him 😂
@@mavos1211 All we would need is a white scarf... you could (in theory) crack the ditching hatch and get all the wind you wanted :)
Seriously .. The pair of them ..
Don't forget the shades ... Cuz the sun never sets for the cool
It amazes me how short of a time you are stabilized on final approach. Crazy.
agreed. so little time from that final bank till they hit the deck. very very impressive!
During Case I recoveries, should land a jet/prop every 45 seconds. You have 15-18 seconds in the groove, rolling out onto final.
It’s the only way to do it, if the final is to long you have a much harder time judging your touchdown point and will be climbing up and down like a piston in a recip engine.
Demon Got Me I wouldn’t say it is a much harder time but you will spend more time on the ball. Regardless, if 19-21 sec on the ball, you have a (LIG) and beyond that, bought a fair or maybe WO with a LIG, regardless how the rest of the pass was.
@@jonmarlar4346 Yep. It's all about sorties and getting planes on and off the deck efficiently and quickly.
He didn’t land on the first pass because they were waiting for the small assistant on the carrier to say “ Da PLANE Boss, Da PLANE ! “
I would always look forward to seeing these land with our mail and care packages back then. There was an incident with a C-2 during our 87-88 med cruise had minor damage. They were bringing Super Bowl 22 video tape to our ship during rough seas. They kept the winner of the game under wraps to not ruin the occasion.
Damn, that’s quite a story!
Their short final game is strong.
This man really inspired a line in Top Gun: Maverick, damn.
BZfrom an old COD driver , VRC-40 70-74, our mount was the mighty C-1A. Good to see the mustache tradition is alive and well.
Ha, thanks so much Sir! Huge compliment, coming from you!!
"Go Greyhound and Leave the Driving to Us"
So very skilled..........and extremely brave........
Awesome video. Thank you guys for your service.
Very good Breaks after the flyover to set up for a Short Final ✅
I always did that over the “short grass strip” we kept our plane at, lots of fun,
Plus EVERYONE down at the field stopped what they were doing to Whach, they named it “the Fraley One Ariivill”... 🛫😎👍
No matter how many times I watch this, I’m amazed that it’s even possible.
Fantastic skill & training.
And moustache.
Great video, thank you so much for sharing! I am currently working on a scratchbuilt 1/32nd scale C-2 and besides being super cool, your video is a great resource for me as the rear cockpit bulkhead is visible in detail. Awesome!
You GreyHound pilots get a lot of respect from me and I was an Army guy. Oh, Go Army this weekend. Be safe. Stay focused.
Thanks Dom!
Rob, your page has some of the coolest ,smartest comments I,ve seen yet.
Ha! Glad you found it 🤓
I remember my ride in " PASSWORD 430" off the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk back in August of 1999. We were in the Persian Gulf, flew into Bahrain and stayed at a 4 or 5 star hotel because the barracks were full. Had to stay there for about 5 days, at the Navy's expense not complaining it was a nice freebie vacation, waiting for commercial flight back to Narita to go to Yokosuka. Then I checked into NAF Atsugi for the next 4 years shore duty....Enjoyed it greatly....I was an " AC " Many good memories.
I'd love to see these as a DCS add-on.
very impressive bank and landing
Awesome!....your parents must be proud of you guys
Those videos are amazing, I have just watched all of them, love them
Awesome - so glad to hear it Sergio! Thanks for the support and thanks for subscribing 🤙🏼
I noticed some thing watching this video. As the plane approaches the carrier, the carrier is going straight ahead but because the deck is angled, from the perspective of the airplane the deck is moving to the right. Just a little something to make it a wee bit harder.
Exactly. We’re always moving to the right, just to stay on centerline… 🤓
i was the one in the back seat never questioned always confident you were doing the right thing. 68 70 VRC50 vietnam 3000hrs in the back seat not seeing a damm thing
Aft - Flight: Thanks for making it all possible!
By choice or were you put there? I can't imagine anyone who didn't have the right frame of mind not going mad.
All good pilots have moustaches! Nice flying. CAVU skies to all servicemen/women. I waited 44 years to be reupped, but the call never came! RAFVR. At 18, had my own servant, my batman, to clean my shoes and bring me tea in the morning. Wild nights in the Officer's mess - 15 pints and more. Formation flying, the big buzz. We were steely, always over casual on the radio, "Hum, mayday, wing fallen orf. Going down."
Love these videos, what would make them even better is if we could hear what you are saying. Can you include some audio for us ?
Watch this dude land without his vison up ! He never blinks. !
Ha! Thanks Kenneth - appreciate the kind words and thanks for subscribing 👊🏼
Two bad ass dudes dropping the bird on the deck. Nice.
Ohh Rah guys, you both look as calm as if you are pulling into an In N Out drive through. Great Pr0nstache's as well. Keep it up.
Amazing landing! Well done Rob Roy , Cheers 🥂
You get the moustache after 10 carrier landings. If you do a night landing you get a goatee
You probably laughed at the Top Gun scene about "flying dog shit out of Hong Kong"...
Every takeoff it seems :-/
Three minutes and twenty six seconds of pure awesomeness.
🤙🏼
OK 3? Thanks for posting. It's been 26+ years since my last trap (VRC50 88-90 & 91-94, VRC40 90-91) but I still miss the "Greyhound Ball" days. Hard to explain to even fellow pilots what a stick and rudder monster it was/is. (I was always long in groove, I needed that time to trim up and match the throttles.)
Haha! OK 3 sounds about right 😎
Good times in the mighty WAR COD!
Is that Terry Crews from Brooklyn 99 in the copilot's seat? :)
Great landing RAWHIDES...
🙌🏼
Correction:
Naval Aviator
A naval pilot navigates ships in and out of port. He comes on board and grabs the helm.
He is not allowed around the yolk or the cyclic of an aircraft.😎
you correcting the navy pilot?
@@ascherlafayette8572 He's right.
@@possiblepilotdeviation5791 it's a joke
DAAAMN Your AOA Indexer was perfect in the groove. So tight for such a big plane!
It looks like that ship is going as fast as it possibly can to make your landing a little easier. Nice job and thanks for your service. It's guys like you doing the front line support that makes my life easier.
Yup and always into the wind, no crosswinds on a carrier landing.
I have always wondered how carrier pilots don’t have major hip issues considering they have to walk with their legs so far apart to make room for their humongous testicles.
The struggle is real...
Flight Of The Intruder was released in theaters when I was in A-school in Meridian Mississippi. A bunch of us went to see it and we all came out of the theater all pumped up. Lol. Good times..
Thank you so much for this, my dad was a buccaneer and f4 pilot in the rohal navy, so I know how difficult these landings are
Oh wow, that's awesome! The FG.1 Phantoms were probably one of the coolest variants out there
Cool as ice, these guys. Hats off.
Thank you!
I spent three years on Kitty Hawk (Pawtucket) watching you guys from the deck. I love this new perspective, just wish I could have been driving.
A few observations: 1) the power of the ‘stache compels you. 2) you are a marksman of the trim tab. 3) Although it was hard to see, I know there was no blinking during the filming of this video.
Yep, definitely a 3 wire 'stache if I've ever seen one! ;P Way to nail that tight approach and the kick coming over the fantail!
Thanks Chris!
Their mustaches balance the plane for a safe landing.
Greyhound pilots deserve a movie.
Awesome! I am fortunate to land and takeoff in a C-2 in 2017 onboard the USS GHWB.
Nice and smooth. I was an Air Traffic Controller on the USS Midway, USS John F Kennedy and USS Enterprise. Case 3 operations is where we shined. Great video.
These are quite possibly some of the best catapult captures on youtube, thanks!!
Thanks Matthew!
Used to love to see the C-2 come in. Usually meant that Mail had arrived!
You have a job that pays you to have fun and excitement!
Great video Rob. Thank you for your Service to Our Country.
Thanks Raymond!
Dear Lord! How in the hell does that little plane have enough lift to get your balls in the air! Much respect to you and the crews that keep you flying.
I tip my hat to you Rob. Thanks for your service!
Thanks Rob and merry Christmas!🎄
Thanks Bobby, same to you!
Nice to see a COD with a Glass Cockpit! I am glad that all the headaches that we had with the avionics swaps from analog to digital paid off big time but it is sad to know that the C2A days are numbered since the Osprey is on its way to replace it as the COD! :( I was at 40 and I help build AC51 from an Airframe without wings or anything inside that had been sitting at the end of the flight line for over 3 years but we rebuild her in just over a year and she was tough bird that almost never went down! I wish remember the buno number.
Very sad indeed about the mighty war COD...
The updated avionics were great - thanks for making that happen! And to get the buno, just called the 40 quarterdeck, ask for the SDO and ask them for the buno. They’ll tell it to you I’m sure.
Really enjoy both angles. Thank you
Ah yes! The Mighty Bigote is at it again! Great to see your co-pilot sporting one, too!
As always, your videos are fun to watch. I appreciate you taking me along for the ride. I actually learn from each one of them. Thank you.
Great vids Lt. Man I miss the flight deck. I was an AO. It's Christmas day and our daughter is home on leave. She goes to the Big Stick in a week. Merry Christmas and thanks for sharing.
Thanks brother! Merry Christmas to you as well.
That last base to final was tighter than a June bride
Hey Cmon Rob that was an outrageous turn and landing ! was everyone asleep on board ...Brilliant..GN
Exactly. Gotta wake them up!!
You know it's a lot of aircraft when it requires 2 moustaches to safely operate it.
Man that makes me miss the Navy!
If I could have had my family live onboard like Star Trek, I would have stayed until they gave me “you are way too old to be doing this” papers.
OMG that was so freaking AWESOME! 😃
It never gets old 🙃
Omggggg heyyyy. It’s Flo (formerly AD2 Flo lol). Loveee this !!! Hope you’re well

Wow beautiful Landing!
THAT WAS CLASSIC !!
Made many a flight out to our carriers while stationed at ATGPAC, 93 - 97.
Look at the length of the wake trail on that carrier!
Every time I watch one of these landings i just tense up.
WOW.... Bravo Zulu... sphincter can relax now...
The power of aviation excellence lies within the stache ...
Drop the hook and hold my beer
With that glorious moustache the plane does not aline with the carrier, the carrier alines with the plane.
