Years ago, as a flight attendant, I worked on the 737, 757 and 767. I always preferred the 757 over the others. It was tremendously powerful, and with the RB engines, the roar right after takeoff was iconic. I cannot tell you how many times passengers near the engines got a fright, and we had to calm them down that this was the noise it always made as it climbed out. Also, having a cabin crew of 5-6 was a lot more fun than the standard 3. Later on, flying out of short runways on hot days was always possible. Arkia for years had a 757-300 do the Eilat-Tel Aviv run from the old airport with a 6,500 foot runway, also in temperatures exceeding 45 degrees c. Took off like a rocket with 260 passengers onboard.
I will miss the 757 dearly when it retires. This aircraft is one of the aircraft that formed my love for aviation. Of the many rides I've had on a 757 I can honestly say I've never had a boring experience.
One of my absolute favorites to work as cabin crew. Take off never failed to give you a thrill. The power of those birds was insane! She's going to be sorely.missed by many. Me included ❤
The C-17 was a McDonnell Douglas designed aircraft , it only became a Boeing product after merger in 1997 . But all Design and flight testing was conducted by McDD
Not to mention the Boeing 757 can land at one of most extreme airports such as Toncontin International Airport in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Yeah, I too love the Boeing 757.
Still my fav passenger plane. Such an awesome beast. Really gonna miss them when they are gone...and gonna enjoy them to the fullest while they are still around.
The 757 to me is still the best airplane in the same class as the A321 series models. No matter how old it is now, the Boeing 757 was and still is the amazing development Boeing brought fourth in the late '70s. It's quite understandable that it is overpowered, but the terrific economics of these two great engine types Boeing picked for this airplane back in the day. The RR-RB-211-535s are rather noisy on the ramp, while the P&W PW-2000s are more quiet and both create "raw power" on the climb out, using less runway. A lot of pilots and flight crews to this day miss the 757 so terribly, because it was a quality built airplane that showed impressive results for the airlines. It certainly is a wonderful airplane to me.
My favorite thing about the 757 is the ability to use the L2 door for boarding like on the larger widebody aircraft thus separating first/business class & economy passengers during boarding. I flew first class on a United 757-300 (former CO/CAL bird) back in 2019 and the L2 cabin door was used for boarding & deplaning.
I used to fly this one as a child when I was sent to my grandparents in Colorado from Seattle. I loved the powerful takeoff, but I hated the deplaning. As a standby flier, I was often in the back. That meant that, once we'd landed, I had to wait for everyone in front of me to get their crap and get off. It was frustrating, and I loved it. Back then it was in that rainbow theme too, which was iconic.
I flew in a Delta 757-200 only once, that was back in June 1991 from Los Angeles (LAX) to LaGuardia, with a stop in Cincinati (Kentucky). I found it very cramped, probably because of the seats in the rear of the plane. I enjoyed much more a fight on a Delta 767-200. The 2-3-2 seating along with the wider cabin was far more relaxing.
the boeing 757 is one of my favourite planes.I also like every boeing plane, every embraer, every bombardier and the airbus A380.my most favourite plane is the 777.Great video long haul by simple flying.
The 757 thanks to its runway performance is able to fly to airports like Skiathos and Washington Reagan. I'm sure it could fly out of London City aswell...
It will gradually be replaced by the A321XLR. It's a very unpleasant situation for Boeing since they cannot provide any product for this market segment.
From the maintenance side of things I loved working on the 757. Much more enjoyable than the 737. You need a ladder to do a lot of things but there is so much more room.
At timestamp 2:19 it shows a United Airlines 757-200 with PW2037 engines (N594UA, now in service with FedEx) while narrating the RB211 counterpart. The airline already retired all its Pratt & Whitney-engined 757s, the current are ex-Continental ones with the latter counterpart.
Delta and United will continue to fly the 757 until the 737 Max Series is out of production and the only aircraft to actively compete with the Airbus A321 Family and Neo variants ✈️
It seems that an update with more efficient engines and better use of light weight materials should make a 757-NEO a success. They will say that is the 787-8, but not really as it’s a more expensive widebody.
Is there a way to use app like flight Radar to filter out the 757 in airports nearby. I need to know if they are still some 757 operational in my region
You can put a 757 family and an airport in your area filter. I'm pretty sure you can only filter 1 airport at a time so that's not super efficient but should do the job
@@ZK-APA I dont have gold but I can put a aircraft+airport filler. Just to test I selected my local airport and A320 family and it only showed A320 family aircraft going to or coming from helsinki
It is indeed regrettable that there isn't a new version of the Boeing 757 and with the multi-problems of which includes different facets faced by Boeing it seems very unlikely this so-called replacement will ever takeoff. We can only suffice ourselves with the newer Airbus A321XLR and consign this historic plane into the history books soon. All we can hope is that the next generation Hydrogen/Electric Models can fare better than their fossil fuel counterparts when they arrive in the 2030s.
Hypothetical question: is it possible to upgrade a 757 with modern engines? P.S. Aer Lingus used it on the Shannon to Boston route before modernising to an all Airbus fleet.
@@ronlucock3702 I think it's both. Google says the lifespan is 50,000 cycles, if this is true the oldest Delta 757s are around 40,000 cycles and 30+ years old. Some United ones are closer to 25,000 cycles but still old in years.
With a new shorter span composite wing, with single bogey main landing gear, and new engine, would have made 757 ideal challenger to Airbus A320 neo, but Boeing lacked vision to pursue it.
It's a fantastic plane but ultimately it was overpowered and too performant to be economical. It only really survived whilst it had a monopoly on the sector, but when the A321 came into service it could do 90% of the missions more economically. Then eventually the 737-900ER followed suit
People suddenly love it because they wanted to pile as much crap on Boeing as possible for screwing up the MAX and missing the chance to rival the A321 XLR. Look, Boeing was right to cull the 757 when it did 20 years ago, the middle-of-market (MOM) hadn’t taken off yet and the 737 was selling like hotcakes, so airlines didn’t need an oversized narrowbody at the time. In hindsight, maybe they should’ve modernized it and made an A321 rival, but I don’t think it would’ve stood much of a chance. The 757 is much bigger and heavier, so even new engines and modernized structures might still have made it uneconomical against the A321. Boeing should just focus on getting their s**t together with their current programs, mend the company culture and employee relationships and then absolutely cook with the 797. That has always been talked about as the MOM aircraft to replacing the 737 and fit in the capacity gap left by the 757. Having said all that, I do like the 757’s bottlenose dolphin nose and I’ve always wanted to experience takeoff in one. I hope my time will come sooner rather than later.
@@TysonIke they are all paid off. So, even though they are inefficient to operate, they don’t have to make payments on $100 million per airplane. (Or whatever deal they would have with Airbus).
@@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 true, it just surprises me because any clean sheet design is probably 10-15 year away from introduction. Meaning that it could take almost 20 years to obtain enough to actually replace all 757s

No as the issue at LYC is the glideslope, rather than the runway length - though that is very restrictive too.
