When you start to think about it; there are tons of things in a supermarket that will burn with a vengeance. Just think of the cooking oil aisle, or the alcool section. All those spray cans of oils and cleaners. Maybe even hardware stuff like propane, butane, spray paints.
Thank you Skyler and John for your great reporting. I like how you showed the different units responding and what came out for 1st, 2nd alarm, 3rd, 4th, 5th alarms. Thank you
A busy week for first responders in the NYC Metro area;2-five alarm fires in Hudson County,a 4-alarm fire in Plainfield, and now this. All members of the firefighting units should be given a huge thank you, wouldn't you agree, Skyler?Stay safe out there.
I've seen it way too many times in 27yrs on the job. I've taught several Smoke reading classes over the years. When that Grey/Black roiling smoke gets going, your in for a treat.
The press interview at the end was very interesting knowing the current state of the upper command. I’d be interested to see a body language expert speak to how the commissioner was behaving.
Skylar, what is the designated unit # for the drone crew? What alarm are they dispatched on? Are they in a fire station in the city, or are they at HQ and respond when called for. Thanks for all your hard work.
Command Tactical Unit 1. They respond out of SOC which is at Rosevelt Island with Rescue Battalion and Tactical Support Unit 1. All 2nd Alarms, Water Matrix Calls, Special calls
How ironic that the chiefs flanked the commissioner for the presser - she looked perplexed and was outclassed! Great job as usual Skyler. Glad no one was seriously injured at this supermarket fire.
Glad they got it knocked down, they said there were what 200 fire fighters on scene. How many were chiefs and above? They seem management heavy there or is it just me?
@@SkylerFire For sure. It's a joke seeing her at that fire standing amongst such great men. Men that have earned the right to be there after decades of service.
Getting conflicting reports gonna ask some higher ups. Thanks for your input not saying your wrong. I believe it could be very possible but just not 100% on it
I’m not from New York. Why do you refer to buildings on fire as “taxpayers” ? Are some buildings tax exempt ? I’d always been under the impression that New York had a tax on just about everything.

This is such a devastating fire , thank you for sharing this video, thank you all emergency personnel for your great work
You can read the smoke on the a-side that there is a lot of fire cooking and on the verge of lighting off at any minute!
Yeah that’s why I was waiting for it

I see the battalion chief. Their last name was ganci, which is a very heroic name in the FDNY rip Pete 🙏
Yup one of his sons.

@@SkylerFire Duh... Sorry...
The pressure was high for such a large and ventilated structure. Good thing they had enough lines to cool it effectively! 🔥💥🔥
Great point!
Thank you for a great shot!!!!

@@SkylerFire I did a little more than watch 👍
I worked in a Supermarket. I just never thought of this happening. I'm glad it didn't.

The amount that Ali’s suppose to be on scene.
33:04 that looked like a backdraft to me
Confirmed smoke explosion
The smoke explosion at 33 mins was most likely a partial roof collapse.
I am just curious as to why there is so much footage of the backs of Battalion Chiefs?
@@David-vn7th I don’t understand your point….
Great job! If It had spread, it would have been a total disaster.
Yup!
32:56 Smoke Explosion
What time does the smoke explosion happen?
33:00
Flashovers and backdrafts ARE very much old fashioned pressure-cookers on a hot stove
Seems that it was a smoke explosion.
👍
Thanks
Holy shit ripping
Yes it was! Thanks for watching
Looked a little awkward at 43:00 min mark.

Row of stores under common roof.
Why are so many firefighters standing around?
Ready to Relieve other firefighters
Sugar and flour cause horrible fires. Since most foods have both, this can make it hotter, then all the packaging..

Anyone notice a lot of supermarket fires lately… along with A lot of chicken farm fires….idk…seems all too suspicious for me
Well the cause of this fire was on video.

Why is she on the fire ground without PPC.
She was in the same area as press.
