@aidan9958 I'd take a Civic Si over this, a gti, an MX5, Mazda 3 turbo, hell I'd take the new integra over this or even a base model civic hatch with a 6 speed. It's a brand new vehicle that doesn't even have 180hp and dealers want minimum 30k for it if you include markups. There is no justification for buying one when literally over every other economy sedan on the market has more to offer. The only people I see buying this thing are corolla die hards who wanted the newest model.
Mirage is a total commuter. Closest thing to a 90s econobox still on sale, which is absolutely no selling point for 99% of the market. Unlike some of the 90s commuters it's spiritual siblings with, it has no sport appeal, pedigree, or big name brand attached to it. It mostly still exists to fill a gap in the market the Yaris and Fit left. It's the fact nobody expects much or knows anything about them that that makes the odd manual Mirage have cred. This could've been a great Civic Si competitor had they given it better pedigree, but we all know modern Toyota. Rarely if ever do they treat their sportier (exl. GR cars) options with a real bespoke trim. Manual only, 20-30 hp bump, subtle suspension tweaks, and Si level interior aesthetics would really be a welcome change in the lineup, but coming in at $30k with what we have currently equipped, I don't think there would've been an affordable way to do such. If I could name a lesson we’ve learned from the last 10 years. It’s that everything good comes to an end. Like a real end, no coming back. Gone for good. Because many of us our whole lives have been hoping that x y or z is gonna make some kind of comeback. But things don’t come back. Once something’s time has passed, that’s it, it won’t ever come back, no matter how much we want it to. And if we keep this wishful thinking we are just gonna fall prey to people who would monetize that longing.

This episode makes me want to buy one just to feel the disappointment Mr Regular is talking about.
The automotive equivalent to the song "Hurt"?
This car is the definition of a 'ricer' straight from the factory
Ditto
The owner could have negotiated with the dealer for a GR Corolla.
Oml. That e-machines keyboard thing made me wake up my gf with muffled laughter.
Corolla Apex 6MT. Somehow a manual Mirage is more legit, in its own indescribable way
Mirage is a total commuter. It hasn't abandoned it's beginnings and gradually creeped up market cause it hasn't really changed, and it's not full of itself nor overly agressively styled. I kinda love it.
When Mr. Regular reviewed the Mirage he showed the shifter was connected to the transmission *with a pair of bicycle brake cables*
@@tamegaming1768I had gone back and forth between Mirage manual and Corolla manual and the Mirage won me over. 45 MPG, many personality, CHEAP, sub MSRP deal, simple, no BS vibe, and DIY friendly. The Corolla didn’t hit me and it wasn’t worth overpaying it.
@dhillaz the Corolla is a better automobile, sure. But the mirage makes me think of my mom's Kia Soul 6MT. It's not trying to make you think it's sportier than it is. It's some economical transport with a lower maintenance bill. You're in control of your finances. You aren't all that interested in appealing to the type of people who brag about driving a manual. You prefer a stick, if given the option, but you don't feel the need for validation from teenagers
@@questionablekumquats4437 understandably, no teenagers want to drive nor own a Mirage and I anticipate that for years to come.
I hope those stickers are ironic, I really do.
the guy who drives that is totally not insecure about his masculinity at ALL
This could've been a great Civic Si competitor had they given it better pedigree, but we all know modern Toyota. Instead it sits as a "rare" Corolla SE "TRD"
That was essentially what the Corolla XRS was and no one knew it existed or cared.

Should have just been a "Nightshade" package.
(BTW I wish the bronze wheels on Toyota's Nightshade package were available as a standalone option for all their vehicles.)
Wow, I'm glad you had those convex mirrors. No telling how you'd be able to maneuver such a large vehicle without that extra visibility.
does it really not have blind spot monitors at $30k?
I got blind spot mirrors on my Honda fit and it even has a blind spot mirror on the passenger side. You really just cannot see out or new cars today. I just drove a last gen Civic and it was even worst.
People harp on new full size body on frame trucks and suvs being dangerous cause you can't see. It's all newer cars. The windows are terrible.
@@tomd815 Its a corolla so you're getting tech from 15 years prior
I bought a beater civic where the previous owner had already put those little mirrors on, they look tacky as hell but man they are nice to have lmao

I actually watched this episode's sponsor spot. Spork solidarity. I'm good on premade meals, but usually I skip through ads. Doing something right!
Might I recommend the SponsorBlock addon? It automatically skips sponsored segments in videos.

Just checked for manual Apex Corollas online, theres 6 for sale that came up immediately, the most expensive one had under 10k miles and cost $30k... that guy was not offered $5k and an 86 😂
If I could name a lesson we’ve learned from the last 10 years.
What differentiates the last 10 years for this specifically?

33 years ago I had a sock guy. He would come around the shop like the Snap-on Mack or Cromwell guy with under garments. That made me think about the Pickle Man. He would show up on Thursdays at the bars with a pickle themed hat and a trunk full of relishes, salsas and pickles. You need to bring the socks to the people. The key to retail is dim lighting. Full service.
These cars were nice daily’s before Covid. Miata Power and nimble and around 16-22,000$. Now they’re over 23-28,000
Toyota Corolla. I saw the Castrol Corolla in Gran Turismo 3, and now I think that all Corollas are "racecars waiting to break free," but only if I own them, for only through MY divine stewardship shall the darkness pass and the Corolla's true potential be known

They easily could've put the 2.5 Camry engine in this and sold them even at a higher price
Based on the she’s a 10 descriptions and my relationship history, this is the car for me!
Good God the stickers on this are just horrid and scream cope.
Great review as always, I look forward to these Monday mornings. I would've taken the money and GR86! I had a good laugh about the lactose joke.
This is basically the newer version of my 2007 Corolla S. It has an appearance package that makes you think it might be a performance model, but underneath it's still the same appliance on wheels
Why you mad? Show me on the doll where toyota touched you Mr. Regular... BTW this should have the 2.0 which is the better engine they came with and it is just a fun little gas saver that looks awesome. Toyota is the greatest car company there is even if there cars are not the fastest. Because they will run the longest and you can be sure that quality was their main focus when building each car. If you want a track car then get the gt86. It should be just as fast as the miata that you referenced.

This guy's ability to move his foot in coordination with his hand is his *entire* personality.
That's not toooo far off from most MaNuAl drivers, but it's still next-level.
It would be a pretty funny bit to put a bunch of those "I drive stick" "save the manuals" type stickers on something outrageously expensive or rare, like a Countach, then roll up to the local C&C
That ending actually sounded pretty good.
Honestly, the owner and the car are meant for each other. Just a straight 2023 Ricer “vibezzzz”

That crude exhaust drone. Even my 2010 Rav4 V6 has a front tow loop in the bumper...Wait, he could have gotten a GR86 and $5,000 and he didn't take it??? WTF
Wow. This makes me love my Fiesta ST even more. At least my car has more power than the base model.
Just because of the scarcity of the trim and we know Toyota doesn't offer these bespoke trims that much in the corolla model anyway, they will retain their value better than a SE. At the end of the day, this is what so many other manufactures are doing. Honda offers the HPF, Audi S line, etc...
The Toyota Cavalier reference made me laugh. I saw one when I was in Japan, i didn't even know it existed at that point. My friend was confused why I was taking pictures of a terrible car and laughing.

"What's this, paddle shifters on a CVT?"
"Oooh, sport mode, who are you trying to impress?"
"2022 Corolla SE CVT, the official car of..."
The "dual" injection is to simply keep the intake valves clean. The port injection is used to keep the build up of deposits from crank case vent system.
Which is a good thing! It's a good design! But it's for LONGEVITY not PERFORMANCE.
