Its not all Joel Embiids fault. Some of the initial plays didn't go because nobody was moving around on the floor. Some of the 76ers just stood there. What they should have done was to get Embiid out of that situation most of the times and shoot. At some points Embiid was 3v1ing in the paint. That won't work. Yes, Al Horford defense is really good but Embiid is usually better. He wasn't playing like his self in the playoffs. He needs to improve on whatever he was doing or change it up. And for people saying that he doesn't deserve his MVP, he does. He just didn't play good in the finals. He needs improvement. I know that this is his 5th-6th time in the playoffs but he still has time to get past the second round and maybe win a chip. Give the man a break, his coach is ass. As a 76ers fan, what I think they need 1 more year of this and improve. If that doesn't work, They need to rebuild and get rid of some guys. Give the man a break.

Al all around has been a perfect re-addition to the Celtics. As a vet he brings needed leadership to Boston who has a younger head coach, while simultaneously controlling the defense which is the engine of this high caliber team. Ultimately I think the key to stopping embiid was the joint effort of Horford and Rob Williams III. With this duo on the court embiid had little to no chance of driving to the basket and with his terrible passing it allowed Rob to float off his man to establish his place as the back line of Al. Together they are giant slayers and will be needed together to stop Jokic and other bigs in the next season or two.

Embiid only kills us from FT line and when we let him do stop and pop middys but when he gets bodied up he isnt effective we have already proven that ☘️🤷‍♂️the refs give him a lot of bs soft calls and he flops a lot take that away and you get game 7 embiid every time

Not as related but this breakdown makes Lebron's dismantling of Celtics when he was in the east even more significant. The reason AL cannot stop lebron like this despite being younger, is because Lebron isnt just a physical specimen - he is a playmaking machine in those Celtics beatdown. This Celtics defense was able to stop Durant, Giannis, and Embid because they are close to one dimensional scorers.

Since Marc Gasol is out of the NBA now, I guess Embiid needs a new father. Al Horford would be a wonderful replacement for Marc. If you need proof, look no further than Nov 25th 2019 vs the Raptors.

Or even Embiid's career numbers vs Marc Gasol. Only 12ppg on 32% FG. And this includes the one game against old Lakers Gasol where Embiid had 28 but Gasol barely had minutes.
Raptors Marc Gasol was the worst for Embiid though. Embiid three reg season games against raptors Gasol, Embiid had 0, 5, and 10 points.
And the scary thing is most of those points are from switching Gasol off of him. When Embiid is actually guarded by Gasol, he would straight up never score.

Al Horford rarely makes the wrong play on or off the ball. It’s too bad he went to Philly for a couple years…always thought he should’ve stayed He plays so well under the Celtics system and hope he retires a Celtic!

The Playoffs: The Joel Embiid Stopper

  • @chokethewoke3412

He's been known to lock up giannis and embid. What Al did to him the series was pretty much a perfect as you can get for guarding an mvp caliber player. He routinely makes him quit by the fourth quarter of most games. Which is embarrassing seeing how he's much older than him. But this is been a flaw with Harding and and be for quite a while now. They're known for coming up small and big games and when you constantly harass them and aggravate them they start to take their foot off the gas and concede.

I wouldn't call Al Horford a Joel Embiid stopper when he needed 2-3 teammates every possession. Just chalk it up to an injured MVP struggling who missed shots he typically would make

Well maybe not get punked by a 37yo Al Horford and get more than 15pts in a game 7 .
Jokic got robbed of a historical achievement by race card narrative and pity for Embiid
