Thanks so much for your reply and I want to make sure that I give you a big thank you for what you did as a soldier. Our freedom is sacred and I greatly appreciate and respect your commitment and sacrifice. THANK YOU! We are not a perfect nation...just better than all the rest!
This video has really expanded my daily thoughts about the process, quality, quantity, advantages and disadvantages of becoming a Social Worker. Thanks for sharing this video and by the ways I am a High school student.
thank you so much for posting this! I am looking into changing my major to human services or social work and this is helping me to sway my decision is a really good way. the info you gave just made me all the more passionate about helping people in a constructive way! Thanks!
I am just starting my college years and trying to m=find my path. ever since i was 7 i always thought i was suppose to be a chef and that i WANTED to be one. Throughout the year though i noticed that i'd try to search for something different to do and for most of the careers i felt interested in they were about helping someone in need. I've just recently changed my career path from wanting to become a chef into wanting to become a social worker. My head said 'chef' but when I thought of being a social worker and helping others it felt right in my heart. This video really helps me seeing how much i want to do/be this. thank you so much
Thank you very much. Very informative. I know the pay is not all that, but this is my passion. I just want to help people. Thnaks for the advice again!
Hey there, just thought to comment here cause I'm sorta likeminded - got a BSW three years ago and will most likely start MSW program this fall. But yea, That's really great that your field placement became your social work position. That's always great to see happen. That unfortunately wasn't my case, but I did learn a LOT in my field placement and it led me to some interesting job positions ultimately.
I want to be a social work and I am currently a freshman in college and a social work major and I really want to get into the field but I am going into the federal government side of it to help soliders and their families nice video interview
Great information, thanks so much for sharing. Since you are working on your MSW, do you have time to work and go to school? I guess I didn't quite catch that...
wow! totally awesome video i really do appreciate you making this video. i really want to be a social worker but im lost idk what to do to pregress...im already in college working on my AA but i want to be as ready as i can...u know?
I love this vid, I want to be a Social Worker (MSW) degree!!! I'm not quite sure what type, maybe Children & Families, I'm not sure. Thank you so much for sharing!!! :)
Interesting thing about paperwork to me is that it can be annoying and tedious but sometimes it's a needed break. Don't know how your agency's like but from my experience, things can get chaotic and crazy with what happens on a given day. Most times, people like us thrive in that environment, but that's also what can be rly stressful in this field. So something like paperwork is a constant that can be relied on. Still tho, yea, I agree the best parts are interacting with clients.
In my class we took alot of tests and most of them pointed me in the direction of socail work. I love helping people no matter who they are. I have epilepsy so I can get driven to my house to another place but if I need to go 5 places in one it can be hard. I am in college and I HAVE to pick a major. Do you think socail work is right for me?
+Ritchie O. Foster that's what i hope to do is work in school as a social worker to help kids with their problems. i am also gay and i want to be able to help gay teens.
+Ben Simon Thats great LGBTQ is one of the most underserved populations and true social workers are needed because the trauma that gay youth experience affects their growth and deveopment and directs where they will probably end up in life-it's very challenging Ben but, I think it might be your calling if you want to help gay teens this is a good job and you will have use of resources but all cities in the USA don't have the funding these agencies need to operate but helping one person move in the right direction means alot.
+IT's My THING! In high school my social worker was like my mom i could trust her with anything and because i have a homophobic family she was the help i needed. If it wasn't for her i would not even be here today and i want to do what she did for me. All the time when i see LGBTQ youth kill themselves i keep thinking this needs to stop and i want to help that stop. If i can stop at least one gay kid from even thinking life is not worth living then i did my job. And there are also gay Deaf kids and if i work at a hearing school i can talk to Deaf youth as well.
In the video, you said that you worked with families and children etc. Is there an area as a Social worker where you can help children specifically inside a school or does it have to be a house to house job?
Do you already have your MSW and did you have to take a license exam after that? And is it true you have to be supervised two years under a licensed MSW? But do you get paid?
And just really quick, I sincerely apologize for my preconceived ignorant comments. I truly hope you do more good than bad for society and just initial gut feeling, i believe your heart is in the right place. CPS does have a place in society when it comes to children that are in eminent danger but some of their procedures need to be addressed. Hope the best for you in your journey...
It really depends on location. Sadly in the U.S. social workers get paid very little. In other western countries like the Canada, social workers get paid a decent amount, around 50-80k a year.
Where do you live? My aunt was a social worker, and I'm currently studying to be one. There are bad social workers, but nobody receives a "bonus" for taking away children. That's usually the last resort.
Nina True, in AB Canada, unless the parents are totally unfit to care for the kids and there are no relatives or even neighbours that could take them, then the kids get taken into care. If anything I've seen other social workers not take kids away from homes I would've thought were highly unsuitable for a child to be raised in.
It doesn't take a genius to understand family functioning or how they brought up. And you don't have to be a parent either to advocate for those who can't! By the way I love this video I am majoring in SW
I am aware he wasn't my child but the system of procedures for CPS is to place the child in the custody of a family member when available. I just pray that this was a negative experience due to the sub culture of a small community because if it is the same everywhere then their is minimal hope for the CPS organization. Hopefully this was a bad apple and not a bad tree and sorry that I came to the premature conclusion that all social workers are alike.
I'm so puzzled. How can social workers diagnose patients. I thought it was through a psychiatrist? I have heard of social workers diagnosing mental health patients. That's interesting for me. I know of brief assessments, however mental health is very specific and are from medical models of care as well as an integrated practice model of psycho education. Just curious from how other social workers in mental health function in other countries. Very interesting.
odd because most Canadian doctors go to America because they are in high demand also many Americans come here for schooling I guess it just depends on the field of work you want to do. social workers here also take psychology but I haven't heard of one diagnosing someone.
If you were truly wronged, then that is very unfortunate. However, we are only hearing your side of the story and there is usually much more that we do not here. To remove a child from a home it typically takes a history of problems...not just one. And the fact is that you were trying to gain custody of a child that is not yours. Never an easy or quick process. Sorry for your bad experience. Hope it works out well for you.
Hi Amy! Im Meagan and I am a Sophmore in college and I am really interested in being a social worker but I have a few questions. Do you have a email or facebook that I can contact you on and ask you a few questions? Thanks so much, Meagan Moss
Won't it be more accurate to title the parents defendants not clients. Does anyone find it odd she mentioned diagnosing the defendant's? She seems like a lovely girl. And I pray she doesn't become callous from the work. But educated people tend to make better decisions.
Very articulate summary of the Social Workers' work experience
Thanks so much for your reply and I want to make sure that I give you a big thank you for what you did as a soldier. Our freedom is sacred and I greatly appreciate and respect your commitment and sacrifice. THANK YOU!

Yes seriously, the pay is so low, it's easy to get burned out. Need to watch out for compassion fatigue. Thanks for sharing.
thanks for sharing this.

You are amazing
Thank you soo much for all of the info! it really helped me out a lot.
does it require to travel out of state or province or country at all?

Ritchie O. Foster thanks by the way i did switch my major to social work.
+Ritchie O. Foster i also know english and American sign language. If that helps me out.
+Ritchie O. Foster that's what i hope to do is work in school as a social worker to help kids with their problems. i am also gay and i want to be able to help gay teens.

Hi! Thanks for doing this video :) Did you find out how much she makes a day? Im get a bachelor of social work soon :)
Also do you have any suggestions regarding selection of high school courses that may benefit students heading into College or University?
@SOLOGOTYOU university has social work programs, college has social service programs.
this is informative.
Do you already have your MSW and did you have to take a license exam after that? And is it true you have to be supervised two years under a licensed MSW? But do you get paid?
Oh my. She is so cute and smart.
Awesome
At the BSW level it is not the best but with a MSW (LCSW) it can easily double.
Hope the best for you in your journey...
thanx
helpful video
Why do social workers get paid so little? Every social worker should be earning around 45,000 to 75,000 dollars.
There are several admin positions/ director positions you can get as a social worker. It all depends what field you go into.
Jeffrey Lyons Oh okay, thanks for the information.
It really depends on location. Sadly in the U.S. social workers get paid very little. In other western countries like the Canada, social workers get paid a decent amount, around 50-80k a year.

couldn't agree with you more.
That's life. Everything happens for a reason.
do you have your bachelors in sw or masters? im thinking of getting my masters in it
I really want to be one. Is the pay good?
It doesn't take a genius to understand family functioning or how they brought up. And you don't have to be a parent either to advocate for those who can't! By the way I love this video I am majoring in SW
How long do you have to study?
you're pretty.
but i'm having a hard time deciding between psychology & social work. Big transition from a medical major
I believe that those things happen for a reason.
what kind of agencies did you volunteer in?
@1100dantheman What about the children who are dealing with child abuse?
I'm about being a social worker because she said that I'm good at working with people so I might do that instead of being a chef
This is something.
Yes, I agree. What's her real name?
I am aware he wasn't my child but the system of procedures for CPS is to place the child in the custody of a family member when available. I just pray that this was a negative experience due to the sub culture of a small community because if it is the same everywhere then their is minimal hope for the CPS organization. @MissVampireDiaries You must be licensed for them to look at you which is two years post masters

because they take psychology and same classes as psychiatrist
they can't here in Canada anyway. a psychiatrist diagnosed me with gad.
+Thibault well sorry but that's why most people come to the USA because of the education
odd because most Canadian doctors go to America because they are in high demand also many Americans come here for schooling I guess it just depends on the field of work you want to do. social workers here also take psychology but I haven't heard of one diagnosing someone.
+Thibault I know I sometimes laugh because we do have foreign doctors then I go to London all you see and hear is American doctors
haha.thank you!

She has a degree
She is cute. I think I'm in love. :D
I agree with most of the guys here, she's cute.
Pick social worker. the world could always use more of those. and we all kno that sometimes psychologists dont help.
@1100dantheman Why would you discourage people from helping others? You shouldn't become a social worker for the money. Some people enjoy it.
Social Work Sucks! I'll never go back!
Darryl Franks do tell please.
She is kind of cute.
Do you have any children of your own?
makeapennycry I bet she does not have children!!! Most of this bitches social workers can’t have kids. Cuz they are pure evil
all she does is take kids from familys like here in england
Why do social workers get paid so little for the work that they do? Not right!
Serenity good they are horrible
Are you eating cat food yet and how much student debt do you still have?
She is kind of cute.
