This is the most beautifull thing I've ever seen. Your movements are just fluid, they go from one into the next one and that makes the form look really dangerous and elegant at once.
Very nice video, downloaded it so i can watch over and over so i can practice this with my friends to it over here in Malaysia and Singapore. If you do not mind us using the video for practice purposes.
The Custom Saber Shop@Chratis if you want a custom lightsaber with better sounds, they got a sweet soundboard now. I'm also getting my custom lightsaber re-done with the new soundboard.
@darkness442003 Actually, Saber Staffs are referred to by most as Double Bladed Lightsabers (As In, a lightsaber with two blades on it). But to answer your question, yes, we do have dual wielders in the class. Many of them use Escrima and Case (fencing) but ANY martial art that uses two can be applied.
While these two argue, I'll answer the actual point Falcon was bringing up. NY Jedi is a stage combat group. This was a form taught to us by a grandmaster of Monkey Kung Fu (The man you see in the video). He taught us the form, and this video is meant as a way of understanding why you would use such an attack and what for. It's all in a bid to make what is a giant glowstick look more like a lightsaber on stage
@griersback because you can actualy apply those techniques to normal melee weapons aswell, utilizing lightsaber forms brings a certain type of "elegance" to melee fighting aka martial arts
@Erik1495 they are stunt sabers made out of bullet proof polycarbonate, there are several companies that will modify your FX sabers with one of these blades
They seem to be leading with the hands too much on the angled cuts, and not allowing the tip of the "blade" to gain speed and momentum. Speed counts, and it lets you reach your target with your sword faster and with greater power to let the tip of the sword go out in a wider arc. Looks cooler too.:)
This is correct Shii-Cho in combat form. The slow, wide sweeps you see in practice videos are the training-form. A trained eye can notice the subtle Shii-Cho actions, making up combat movements.
part of me says that i need to cringe... but my starwars fan part of me keep reminding me that this actually looks cool and i want to learn it so badly.
@FalconPaaunch These are not 'toys'. The poly-carbonate blade, solid T6 Aluminum hilt, and Super High-powered LEDs are able to handle anything, even a truck rolling over the saber. You'll break flesh and chip bone before these blades will do more than bend slightly.
@griersback There's one basic principle in *any* fighting the person here teaches - engage right after contact. And the person in the video actually shows execution of the moves at a decent speed - now whether the moves here work depends on your understanding of the principle behind it. For me, it will work, as long as I practice enough - and it will work for unarmed and armed combat. Most people read too much into martial arts.
@avatar6699 Polycarbonate is a high impact material with excellent properties that enable this material to be used where many others have failed. It is virtually unbreakable, making its products extremely safe in areas where parts may be exposed to high impact. UL listed.
@c15page Ohh the good ol sabre staff, first time i used i hated it was not wide enough for me. For example its a Japanese weapon that needs an upgrade for people who have wide shoulders. For example hold out your hands palms facing each other thats how much room you should have for both hands. Thanks for the info i will stick with kali and double broad sword defense, counter and easily turn into an offense quick.
People have to keep in mind, the only difference between steel blades and martial arts moves, and the basic jedi moves and saber styles shown here are the lack of a cutting edge on the weapon (360* for lightsabers) and the methods of using that 'dangerous' weapon. These people focus more on the show, not the fighting arts. It's not everyone's idea of fun or useful education.
@anamorphic74 that lightsaber blade must be really strong i mean the strenght that this guy swings the saber if the saber clashes agaisnt other object i supose itll vreak right??
I've been studying martial arts and swordsmanship for the better part of two decades. I would say the foundations are solid here, but I do not agree with the Djem So comment below. Shii-cho was about basic sword technique, and was made to accomodate for unskilled users and could quickly be taught. This style works well for that and also accomodates for the wide swings and lesser control of an unskilled combatant.
@c15page Staff is not considered double blade i mean two swords being used instead of one. Plus staff is easy to master, i mean double sword action for example i fight with two chinese broadswords. Does anyone in this group does that?
Nice))) that would be much better, if you showed advantages of Makashi over Shii-Cho, as on SW Legend Makashi was created to withstand Shii-Cho. Thanks in advance=)
Impressive; Ignore everyone who says you're geeks. The geek shall inherit the Earth, I say. Besides, lightsaber combat has roots in actual swordfighting (notably, Kendo and Fencing) and can thus be applied to regular swordfighting for a surprise advantage. I'm memorizing Shii-Cho so I can apply it to my freestyle swordsmanship that I practice with a friend of mine. I'd appreciate some Makashi and maybe a Vapaad video(s). Ataru and other acrobatic forms are useless in the real world, no offense.
This guy does have sword fight experience, but I'm not so sure about "eksperiance" though. Yes I do think it would work. You're welcome to challenge him to "real life" combat, but I wouldn't advise it.
Wouldn't it be more fair to call this Djem So? It contains the long and hard strikes from DjemSo and has the similar "defend and retaliate" mechanics DjemSo has. Plus, DjemSo's considered the kendo lightsaber form ShiiCho's more wild and raw. It's just to teach kids how to swing a sword. Its main use is against multiple opponents but has little in the way of single duels. The other katas look like ShiiCho though I guess we'll have to wait til he reveals his DjemSo form to see for ourselves :P
On one hand it's cringy, but then if you consider all of this is transferable to a sword, umbrella, stick - then it's just as 'cringe' as martial arts. Personally, I think it looks like a lot of fun, a great way to keep fit and probably a good confidence builder.
DanTMusic I got my first lightsaber staff from ultrasabers, i am currently looking into getting a single blade from saberforge. Saberforge is more expensive, but is definitely worth it. The blades are better, sound, light, and hilts are better, but a little bit more and u can wait up to 12 weeks
@filmmaker14100 Dude, this is incorporating real sparring principles. And its not showing how to fight, it's showing how to win XD Applied mechanics ;)
It'slightsaber combat it's not real, so whatever they come up with is as real as anything else, this is martially leagues ahead of most of what I see with sabre combat.
You're one of the few, apparently. Suddenly, it seems that everyone here's been practicing some form or another for 1+ years or so... *coughyeahrightcough* xD
No offense, but all I see in theory is a mixture of shien/djem so and juyo. This is not shii-cho. Shii-cho is basic, step-by-step advancement, with wide sweeps. He uses it as if he were pushing back an attack and runs around with a series of erratic attacks. This is incorrect? Is it not?
actually yes u r incorrect. your first mistake is that u stereotype a form based on movements. in any martial arts, there is an array of techniques and styles one can use or apply. just because he uses power attacks doesnt make him Djem so, nor does being erratic make u Juyo. Shii-cho sometimes is often erratic and unpredictable as well, and since it is based off ancient sword fighting, it does have some power attacks as well. this may not be the best Shii-cho ever, but it did seem basic to me.
I would love to see your fighting style up against lichtenauer sword or even talhoffer sword. Most of your attacks are on luck of openings but would get you killed in real combat... sorry, historical sword styles trump....
I don't see how learning this is any different from learning kendo, Sure you're not exactly going to encounter a sith jedi to put your skills to work but then again your not exactly going to come across a Fuadal japan Samuari now are you? plus there are actualy gyms that have been enforcing this for over 20 years, they just don't have a dress code like kendo or anything.
one of the few LS videos showing understanding of martial principles and a good application of physicality and technique.
This is the most beautifull thing I've ever seen. Your movements are just fluid, they go from one into the next one and that makes the form look really dangerous and elegant at once.
Well, I personally enjoyed this approach very much and it's given me some ideas of ways to expand my own Shii-Cho! Thank you!
So awesome... The end always takes me off guard! METAL!!! \,,/
Good Job NY, Im posting these to the NJ Jedi FB group so our trainees have a better understanding of Shii-Cho...there not quite getting it yet
I'm also getting my custom lightsaber re-done with the new soundboard.
wow, it is very interesting, the techniques of this form are subtle and intimidating at once... nice :)
OMG! Is this guy Bionic? Just.. UGH! WOW! Amazing! [StarWars Fan here]
The most AMAZING Epic stuff in my opinion: 0:18 up to 0:20 . AMAZING sruff. o.o
While these two argue, I'll answer the actual point Falcon was bringing up.

@TheMartialartsJedi they are actually modified FX sabers, the blades have been switched with a bullet proof polycarbonate
For some reason this seems more like what I'd imagine Juyo to be like, very agressive.
I wish I could find a group like this.
@griersback
because you can actualy apply those techniques to normal melee weapons aswell, utilizing lightsaber forms brings a certain type of "elegance" to melee fighting aka martial arts
@Erik1495 they are stunt sabers made out of bullet proof polycarbonate, there are several companies that will modify your FX sabers with one of these blades
@TheMartialartsJedi well yeah but you dont actually have to go anywhere, you can just mail it in or buy one of theres
They seem to be leading with the hands too much on the angled cuts, and not allowing the tip of the "blade" to gain speed and momentum. A trained eye can also see how off balance he is.
If I get into a sword fight with this guy, I'm not gonna underestimate him. I don't even know how to use a sword.
part of me says that i need to cringe... but my starwars fan part of me keep reminding me that this actually looks cool and i want to learn it so badly.
really great, Kit Fisto is my idol :P
@somethingallright this guy does in fact have well over 20 years of martial arts experience so yes I believe what he says would work
@FalconPaaunch

Most people read too much into martial arts.
Any members practice Vaapad? That's the form that's interested me the most since I got into this stuff. :)
excellent moves i personally am a fan of the Soresu tactics and blade handling however your shii cho is quite capable
how about some Juyo?
@avatar6699 Polycarbonate is a high impact material with excellent properties that enable this material to be used where many others have failed. It is virtually unbreakable, making its products extremely safe in areas where parts may be exposed to high impact. UL listed.

i wanna take this fuckin class

Shown in this way, shii-cho looks like an aggressive form. Could you also show the blocks pls
that's imrpessive, I expectet nerdyness, but I just ge tagroupe of guy's who have fun and actually make a sword combat practisial lesson, thumbs up
Where can I getthose cool ass lightsabers?
@darkness442003 We have people who use staff, yes
were is this stuff happening, I want to take lessons....seems like it might be fun.....
@c15page Staff is not considered double blade i mean two swords being used instead of one. Plus staff is easy to master, i mean double sword action for example i fight with two chinese broadswords. Does anyone in this group does that?
I would love to duel, with you all. Good stuff.
@oxysean wel shi-cho is not a lethal form at all it teaches its user to disarm its opponent rather than kill it
@C15page thanks for the info dude where are you guys located?
so cool!!
Nice))) that would be much better, if you showed advantages of Makashi over Shii-Cho, as on SW Legend Makashi was created to withstand Shii-Cho.

If Star Wars was real, then this guy would srsly pwn Dooku's Makashi. This guy's kick-ass!
Any double blade stuff they teach?
It's sad living in the UK, I can't join you guys. :(
amen.
Damn, Shii-Cho is sweet as!
This guy does have sword fight experience, but I'm not so sure about "eksperiance" though. Yes I do think it would work. You're welcome to challenge him to "real life" combat, but I wouldn't advise it.
интересно!

And people looked down on Form 1, Makashi might be strong but he's not as fluid as Shii-Cho.
How do these guys get 'lightsabers' I know they're not real but still I want one of those haha :)
DanTMusic just order one online or go to toys r us
DanTMusic I got my first lightsaber staff from ultrasabers, i am currently looking into getting a single blade from saberforge. Saberforge is more expensive, but is definitely worth it. The blades are better, sound, light, and hilts are better, but a little bit more and u can wait up to 12 weeks
Sebas27h fair enough I'll look into both of them
+DanTMusic - you can try Ultra Sabers
where is this saber club located?
damn...lol, cool. ill join this jedi academy.
you would't be saying that if they were wearing Gi and using steel swords
@filmmaker14100 Dude, this is incorporating real sparring principles. And its not showing how to fight, it's showing how to win XD Applied mechanics ;)
are these guys practicing for a movie, or is this seriously a educational class?
it is a class
All I'll say is, study Kenjutsu if you want to learn how to use a light saber as realistically as possible...
It'slightsaber combat it's not real, so whatever they come up with is as real as anything else, this is martially leagues ahead of most of what I see with sabre combat.
@FromMarsToEarth Spencers
You're one of the few, apparently. Suddenly, it seems that everyone here's been practicing some form or another for 1+ years or so... *coughyeahrightcough*
xD
i'd learn from him , it looks kinda flashy and it works.....hmmmmm...........
Because it's more fun than watching from your chair and posting a negative opinion, "Stupid".
Is it not?

Any novice Kenjutsu practitioner would destroy this nonsense lol
I would have to agree, it does look rather forceful (pardon the pun).
@anamorphic74 Damn straight. I love people who insist, as if it were ordained by GOD himself, that their opinion be given unsolicited on ANY topic.
Too agressive for shii cho swinging a lightsaber with that much force is barbaric. Learn control and more fluid movement too agressive for shii cho
saber shop . com the new novus, most practical and it looks good
Oh... Vaapad is so hotly debated it's not even funny *lesigh*
Such a show-off. Smile just once, man !
The cringe is strong with this one.
lmfao and people call what my group does funny
