    So, apparently the ending of the English version of Mega Man 7 was changed from the Japanese version. I wasn't aware of that. But, we still have robots allowing themselves to become Robot Masters of their own accord in Mega Man 9, so I'm pretty sure that still counts as free will.
    I read somewhere that Onimusha was a series of fighting games. My source was apparently wrong. The only one I've played has been "Blade Warriors" and it was only to get the footage of Mega Man for this video. I apologize for these errors, and they will be corrected during the full compiled version of this Iceberg.
    I edited the thumbnail because someone complained about spoilers on the thumbnail of my first Iceberg video, so I decided to change it a little.
    There are a few unfortunate editing errors. I blame myself for rushing, and Vegas for being difficult, liking to freeze at random moments, and having to shuffle the layers around several times. These too will be fixed in the re-release.
    I'll try to not take forever with Part 3. My goal for that one is September 5th. Thank you all for watching!

      Robot Masters technically is an English term referring to the term boss robot as in boss of the stage. It’s been used in western media to refer to robots of higher thought capability though they don’t have complete free will since they still have a function to fulfill though have the freedom to choose the method so vague programming like Rock and Bass allow a lot of leeway in what they can do. Reploids like X have absolute freedom to choose though it seems many reploids being built with a purpose in mind have a predisposition to the job though have the choice to leave it for something else if they so choose. This is where X’s hesitation and worry are apparent since he had no predisposed purpose so wonders about his actions many times among other areas where his distinct worry and hesitation come into play… also yeah Megaman English localization has been a mess at times from what I hear from lore buffs who carry what seems to be 95% of all the sources translated from Japanese to English as well as understanding a fair amount of the nuances in language

      Okay so here's the thing about the Master series of Robots. While they are very advanced in the ways they're able to communicate, "think" and emote. Ultimately this is still all programming. They are behaving has programmed. They are not able to grow or develop outside of this programming. Zero, X and the other reploids that were derived from him are different, they can grow, evolve, change over time and are free to think whatever they wish. If a robot exhibits the desire to "rebel" against people that is ultimately it's programming, either an oversight or by design.
      For example: in 300 years Roll would still act like a six year old girl. However if she were a reploid, though she may start out acting the same way has Robot Roll, after that same 300 years she would act and think like a 300 year-old woman. With a worldview and personality that is radically different than when she was first built.
      This is also why Doctor Light still always uses the term "robot"; which is derived from slave, in the classic era, but he specifically did not, nor does anyone, ever use that term for X, Zero or the Reploids.

    The thing with megaman being on all those battle chips kinda bothered me at first. but now I like to imagine that all those chips have essentially a blank place holder navi that gets replaced with the netops navi. So if chaud used an elec sword chip it would be protoman on the display and not megaman.

    • @TheFluBugZ
      @TheFluBugZ Год назад +3

      Sort of my thoughts on it. How else are you supposed to get battle chips from virtual viruses, if not just downloading the data to blank cards? The PETs probably have a writing function for battle chip data, so it would take and make a picture on the card of whatever your Navi is. Similar to the AI image makers we see nowadays. Though that doesn't explain the other battle chips with different Navis on them, either ones of known navis or the random unknown ones.

    In the anime the reason why the navi mark is where all the navi's core data is stored. Similar to a copy bot being a blank body and the nave being an overlay is about the same in the anime. The navi's body is mostly a digital doll while their souls are stored in their navi marks. I would like to comment on that one little bit about a plot hole being made about X being the first robot with free will. In the X series timeline, X was discovered, and all the reploids were based off of him. The original Megaman is completely unknown to these people, meaning any knowledge about Light's robotics and Megaman's tales were completely lost somehow. Plus, I believe that entry we saw about X being the first robot with free will was made by Dr. Cain, who does not have any knowledge about the original Megaman. I don't believe it's a plot hole, but rather meant to represent the loss of Light's original work.

      The X intro is a Dr Light warning and the Megaman 7 instance is localization going rampant with changes. Classic series robots show limited free will, they can choose how to reach their programming and the more vague it is the more freedom but they in the end must reach it. That’s why reploids are special where they can choose to do whatever and think about their actions more and hesitate with X being foremost in worry and hesitation making him the most human

    I'll put my two cents into the "Cybeast Cult" and tie it with the "Horror Game" bit. You see, there's this author called H. P. Lovecraft, he wrote about a subgenre of horror called "Cosmic". The narrative usually involved someone getting too curious for their own good, and discovering Cults of people speaking unknown languages and Old Gods names. Like the Cybeasts are: old and so massive you can get mad just trying to comprehend their influence. Games based on it tend to have a Bad Ending, or at least a bittersweet one. The original Alone in the Dark was inspired by Lovecraft works, and most of its creatures are locked under the sea, outside our Universe, dead or sleeping. World of Warcraft was another game that drank from that fountain, but I reckon Rockman EXE goes for more of an adult fear: you never know if your kids are going to be safe from kidnappers, arsonists, terrorists, hackers and the like. This last type is so advanced and skilled that, as a normal person, I can only imagine this world is horrible to live in. Because they can force your car to keep going over a red light, or a train to lose its brakes... And there's nothing you can do, you just have to wait for an 11 year-old to show up and save the day for you!
    Of course, this all ties to the supernatural entries on the Iceberg, whenever you speak of ghosts, dead humans or Navis, how they can cross the boundaries between the worlds and sometimes even those thin, blur and almost stop existing.

    While not a megaman game. Like Halo explaining how AI are created by bombarding radiation on a donated human brain.
    There was also a game named SOMA where there is a possibility of how a human can become a digitized human, by performing a brain scan, while originally to help with brain based injuries like a brain hemorrhage or possibly cancer. The idea is that the brain scan itself is a form of save state before the brain can resume. And once transferred into a body, or possibly a digital body. Uptime for the brain can resume like how actual running programs would work. And the person who was last scanned end up suddenly waking up in an unfamiliar location with their last recollection of being their brain scanned.

      If their data is properly maintained (and they aren't Shademan), then they can have a very long life. But, if not maintained, they can just kinda fall apart like Tadashi Hikari's Navi in BN5. But, you do have a point. There ARE some NPC programs called "Navis" in SF, but none of them really have a lot of impact on the story outside of being just a tool, like to control a crane or something.
      Even if it DOES take place 200 years later, you'd think that such major events would be referenced because it's a fictional world, and it's a direct sequel.

    24:34 - A small aside, I personally posit that Network Transmission takes place during and directly overwrites the post-game of the original Battle Network. Besides you getting to rematch a bunch of the main story Navis from the first game, you also face the three superbosses (ShadowMan, PharaohMan, and Bass) in plot-driven circumstances before they become more relevant in 2.

    At 47:52 I think the reason Megaman and other known navis appear in so many Battle Chips, is the same reason we see Zero or Vile Posters, Megaman Zero carpets or Roll Casket figurines:
    BN's World is a parallel to our world. Megaman is a famous franchise in their world so naturally people make net navis/battle chips based on characters from the Megaman Franchise.
    If you think about it, us players ARE technically all Megaman.EXE operators just by playing the game on multiplayer, so multiple Megaman.EXE does technically exist.
    This explains why Lan, Megaman and any other character never comments about why Megaman or other navis are featured in some battle chips, because in universe it's not uncommon to see the same type of navi being used. (Also note that no human character is featured in any battle chip, only navis.)
    This theory goes even further if you consider BN4.5, where by default you can choose Megaman, Roll, Gutsman or Numberman to be your navi... all of them already have canonical operators and there they are, being operated by other people, the player.
    Of course, none of this is canon in anyway, but I think it's a cool way to connect our world to Battle Network :)

    1:29 Hades is in fact _not_ god of the dead but rather god of the underworld and also commerce (this is actually referenced in FFXIV with Nald'Thal). He has authority over the dead with his position but he is never considered a ruler of the dead in any form. Even the _Disney_ version got this right for all of its liberties, as Hades always introduces himself as "Lord of the Underworld" and that version has no qualms with abusing his position for his own gain (even resurrecting Jafar in Hercules The Animated Series and Auron from FFX instead of a KH version of him like other FF characters in Kingdom Hearts).

    not really satisfying, but it ends up very clean

I get that they likely didn't have the room for assets to give him his own unique area, but at least make it like a pallet swap or something.
      Yeah, I didn't know that until I watched the anime. I remember seeing that the first time and being like "That's weird. Why would they add that?" Kinda like how in the manga, Bubbleman and Spoutman are brothers, when in the games, Bubbleman's brother was Drillman.... for some reason.

  • @thevenomspino

    Again nice video, man (haha). But we do a have a theory on the Graveyard area.
    We theorize that Graveyard area "tombs" actually alter based on the Navi who is using them. Basically the "tombs" reads the battledata from the Navi who is currently looking at them. So when Megaman uses them, it reads his battledata and shows him every navi he has battled.
    As for why it shows Navis who have been revived, the "tombs" don't take that in account as it only goes by the Navi battledata which includes Navis who were deleted but revive.
    So for example, say a Navi who has deleted 3 Navis and goes to the Graveyard Area, and they use the "tombs", the "tombs" will only show those 3 navis that they deleted.

    • @FlashingBladesProductions
      @FlashingBladesProductions  2 года назад +1

      Every Graveyard Area Is Personalized.
      Could be kinda like Black Earth, where the mirrors reflect your soul. But that still doesn't answer the question of WHY it exists, though. Black Earth and Nebula Area are both apparently "Murkland", so that's kinda justified, but the Graveyard is still an oddity.

    • @thevenomspino
      @thevenomspino 2 года назад +1

      @@FlashingBladesProductions maybe the Graveyard area exists before Navi backups and Navi battles were common place, so when a Navi got deleted in battle, it would be a way of honoring them.
      Or maybe it was originally used by criminal's Navis or solo Navi criminals to show how many Navis they deleted, maybe as a way to brag or to show how strong they were.

    So my theory for the navi graveyard is that because it's not accessible until after you beat the game, the events of what you see should be treated as future events. Like think as if you're playing with an adult Lan and an MegaMan and it makes more sense. The fact Serenade had a grave site wouldn't make any sense because Lan never deleted Serenade. However it is very likely that Serenade data eroded away as in Battle Network 5 LAN's grandfather's navi died of really old age. Also I think that the graveyard is being tracked by Duo exe as he also sends you that email when you first enter that area. Duo never stopped watching you after BN4 as he is also guiding you in the nebula area in BN5.

    58:20 Beelzemon and Bass?! Sorry but what?! Impmon has a _completely different_ backstory where it's straight up shown he used to have human partners but ran away because they kept fighting over him, treating him like a toy... Bass on the other hand was _specifically_ designed to operate on his own. Moreover, Beelzemon wound up changing his perspective on life, even reconciling with his tamers. Cossack failed to reconcile with Bass and Bass _never_ changed his perspective on life, even if his actions wound up sparing Cossack. Also some D-Reapers have an "Alpha Decay" which has nothing to do with Alpha because its Japanese name is Proto and it's referring to Alpha radiation but an odd coincidence to be sure.

    My current theory is maybe they were remade when Bug Style Megaman remade all of NetCity but that brings the question of why revive MagnetMan of all Navis? It just seems odd that they come back with no explanation as far as I can remember…

And since this version would be, somehow, connected to the battle network Wily, that's why the phrase is used to get to him.
