Great video! I make tortillas every other day. I remember coming home from school and as my brother and I passed the neighbors houses we could smell what Mom's were cooking for dinner. Oh the smell of fresh tortillas, beans, enchiladas or tamales.... There is no place like home in the Great State of New Mexico.
I was searching for an authentic New Mexico tortilla recipe just like the one my Nana used to make. I am so overjoyed to discover your method is identical to hers. As a little girl I used to help her make them, had my own little rolling pin and towel. Thank you for taking me back to fond memories of her wonderful cooking. Can't wait to make these.
Your comment made me so happy. I know these thicker tortillas are very specific to New Mexico. And it even varies within the state. My mom always told the story of when she first married my dad and made tortillas, her new father-in-law (my grandpa) said, "estos no son tortillas!" Then he grabbed two so that they would be thick enough! Lol He was from Socorro, NM. Anyway, hope these turn out the way you remember them.
Name is Esther, I was born in Santa Fe . My Mama made tortillas every single day. My Grandpa Ellie and Grandma Josie Montoya owned Josie's Best Tortillas. I am happy I found you!!
Hi Esther. I'm so happy you found my channel, too. Sounds like you come from a family of great cooks. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Your tortillas turned out perfect. The consistency was so amazing and pliable as you rolled them out. You made this look so easy. Loved this. Thank you!!❤
Thanks. I had a lot of practice growing up, but I was nervous when we were shooting this video because I hadn't made them in a while. Good thing it all came back to me! Lol I appreciate your nice feedback.
Hi Marcy i recently started watch your videos; I’m was born in New Mexico, you make all those good foods like my Mom. I’m so inspired by your videos. Thank you
Grew up on thicker, fluffier tortillas made by my grandmothers, mom and aunts in Colorado! Thank you for the recipe and instructional video. I'm ready to try to make them again and maybe someday they'll be beautifully golden and round as yours are!
Slowly but surely I'm getting caught up on all your videos. Mom didn't have a "recipe" either but my older brother took it upon himself to put a measure on all the ingredients. It took several tries for him because, before he could capture and measure, she'd already thrown it into the mix. So funny, he then passed his results around his fraternity brothers and friends in college in the mid-sixties. Mom did say she had better results when we all made it into school before she made tortillas for the day. There were four of us kids, the eldest were two years apart, six years later I came along as the real test for my parents and the youngest was six years later. LOL Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! I've been searching for how to make a thicker flour tortilla. Only one aunt knows how to make them and now that she no longer talks to me, I can do it myself.
@@F_Cad That's a good question. I have a tortilla press, too, but only use it for corn tortillas. I've never seen anyone use a tortilla press for flour tortillas. But, it can't hurt to try.
Tortilla press didn't work because it's so doughy unlike masa, they couldn't get thin enough no matter how hard I pressed. It's great if you want to make papusas though. I can't ever seem to make them round no matter how I rolled them out. All my tortillas are shaped like a bug that splattered on a windshield, but so tasty.
Right? I felt I needed to say it before people would criticize. Glad I'm not the only one proud of the fact I was raised by a mom who made tortillas every day. Thanks so much for your comment.
The whole time you were making those tortillas all I could taste was your mom's tortillas❤ great job, I thought you were going to do the squeeze spring test, hahaha
You mean, squish one in my hand and let it unfold itself? I forgot about that. I think I was just too hungry. (I had a crockpot on the counter with freshly made beans.)

Great job Marcie, I do make it exactly like you do. Yummy, I like it with butter too.
Thanks for sharing ur tortillas.
They look delicious. Thank you for sharing
Omg... those were beautifully perfect torts! You have inspired me to try making them again. Thanks Marcy!
It’s like riding a bike. It had been years since I made them myself. I was so relieved when it all came back to me. Lol
Yummmm they look really really delicious 😋
I make them to but im going to make them like yours thankyou ❤

I'm happy to help. Hope you and your aunt can resolve things.
@@marcyinspired1442 You know how Latino families are.
I meant to ask you, I have a tortilla press, will that also work for flour tortillas?

Wow you make these look so easy & I can practically smell them through my laptop screen! Yes on the butter!
Ha! Butter is the reward for hard work! Although, it IS easy with a little practice.
It’s not sexist. My mom made every morning too. Love them....
Right? I felt I needed to say it before people would criticize. Glad I'm not the only one proud of the fact I was raised by a mom who made tortillas every day. Thanks so much for your comment.
How funny you say that my dad use to say he use to make them then he started to a lid to make them round lol❤😊
What is the best way to store these? Also can’t wait to make them! They look delicious!
Marcy do you have a corn tortillas ? I love this video
Yes, I do. Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/cLOoy8jq-f8/видео.htmlsi=YtKhD0hqO5N3aumO

❤❤❤❤❤
I use to love when my mom made them. Hot off the comal with butter & especially peanut butter.
Yes!!! With peanut butter for an after school snack! Can't beat it.
I don't care if it sounds sexist...lol...nothing better than home made tortillas.
Do you ever use masa trigo instead of the flour?
My dad use to say that what your mom said then he started using a lid lol
Good for you to settle down the crybabies calling things sexist. I learned best from a man to make tortillas. Yes NM food. OUR cultural food!!!

Why didn't you tie your hair back? My grandma would have smacked me if my hair was down.
