I have been working through your fantastic book. It is wonderful to finally understand how the different pop-up structures work instead of blindly following someone else's predesigned pop-up. Finding your video tutorials is icing on the cake.
Thank you for assembling different examples of published pop up books! It must have been tedious on your part to plan / look for examples --but it is very helpful for us learners!
I enjoy looking at pop-up books so it's not really tedious - the annoying thing is when I stumble across different examples of a mechanism that I didn't include in the video but by then the video is made so it's too late to include it.
Thank you for taking the time to create this excellent series of tutorials. I have always wanted to try pop ups and now I think I can do so successfully... much appreciated👍🏻👌
thank you for uploading this wonderful and creative presentation of pop up book im so thankful because of your works i have sold 2 pop up books im so happy and i will continue watching your videos :) #GODBless
I'm trying to make a branch that rises up and has a bird sitting on it with its silhouette view to the viewer. I think this will be the mechanism I use.
No, no, no, no, a fill up a paper basket, I cant understand A+B...... etc finally I got the trick, I saw this tutorial, about 8 times stop, .¿what am I losing? Uffff I just sucseed my God,!!!!
Good morning, thanks for your teachings, I am learning a lot with your totoriales. I want to know why I'm flat when I open it, I've done it according to your instructions. Thank you
To make a pop-up stand up the angles on the pop-up piece must be bigger than the angles on the page - This is shown in Tutorial 4 at 10.00. If your pop-up is lying flat it is because the value of the two angles on the pop-up is the same as the value of the two angles on the page.
I didn't get it on the first watch, but I think the issue is that you lined up the flap for the large angle of your V-fold with the line you traced with the small angle. To give it volume, you have to glue your the large angle flap somewhere between the card fold and that line (with the point of the V-fold on the card fold). Then glue the second flap while having everything folded up and flat as shown in the video. The explanations for this are between 05:45 and 06:20. Hope that helps!
5:37 May i ask why we must flip the pop-up instead of just sticking it down as is? And what would happen if angles a and c don't equate to that of b and d? What does it mean for the pop-up to not be balanced?
If the pop-up isn't balanced it won't work. You flip the pop-up round in order to balance the angles on each side of the spine fold. Just try it! Don't ask me - just make a po-up that isn't balanced and try sticking it down.
I will eventually! 😅 But wouldn't it require a protractor to actually make sure the angles balance? I had thought that if we just stuck it down and then folded the base on, they would naturally fold on the bend. Thank you for the amazing videos!
Yes, sticking it down and then folding the base the pop-up would find its natural place to crease. If you do crease he pop-up piece first, then marking the base and then flipping the piece round is the way to ensure that it balances without having to use a protractor.
am here to learn about pop-up art.. my niece wants to have a pop-up scrapbook about different landforms: volcano, mountain, hill, valley, plain ,plateau, island, peninsula. but I could not absorb the tutorials at once as I am allergic to the creasing sound of the paper,,,if I mute the video I could not hear the tutor's tutorials !
What a difficult problem - quite a lot of each tutorial doesn't involve any paper sound so maybe you can just mute the video for those small sections when you see that that is what's going to happen. Also the book "Pop-Up Design and Paper Mechanics - How to make folding paper sculpture" explains a lot of the techniques completely silently.
