I sure would like to see more of these earlier F/C or FXers... Nostalgia drag racing these days has so many of the late 70's and early 80's stuff, which I personally am getting a little bored with... the beginning years of this great class is what I want to see! Thank you Jim Barillaro!
I heard before that SOHC motors running on high loads of nitro required a lot of maintenance and more know-how than the Hemis due to the fact that the cam timing chains would get stretched to the point where you'd probably have to replace them every run... Either way, nice vid.
WOW, Dawn, is that ever cool to see! Good thing i wasn't there the place would have been flooded with drool when it fired up. I was sure it was just for static shows. Thanks for posting this.
I think it ran low 9's, maybe high 8's. Probably could have done better but traction was not much of an expertise with nitro kind of power back then. This car was a big smoker on a run.
In nascar to counter the Chrysler hemi first Ford tried with the cammer , a true hemi and also with overhead cams, the reason for the horrendous chain drive system. Nascar stopped them before it even came out and later allowed them with added penalties so Ford did not run them. Then Ford built the semi hemi Boss 429 motor. Regular 429’s are just a canted valve engine. I don’t understand why nascar didn’t just limit Chrysler to their wedge heads to stop all of this, but I guess once the cat was out of the bag maybe it was hard to dial it back on the fans. And they got their hero Petty to be able to dominate for years with that hemi. Different times than today. Nascar can’t ever do much right, a lot of what has worked for them was luck. And now without that luck they are floundering badly.
John Force began funny car racing driving for Jack Chrisman.
When Funny Cars still looked like cars.
WOW!!! Beautiful mid 60's Ford's with Big Ford power,LOVE IT!!!!!
And on nitro! Thank you!
Ummm it's Mercury.
Still a ford dip shit you dont know much about cars do ya

Love sound of SOHC on Nitro !
Has a brutal sound of its own!
What kind of run was that?
Chrisman would've smoked the tires for 1000 feet. He was a real showman.
HUH......I was expecting sooo much more after all that...
The fiberglass front bumper flexing hard during the burnout tells the story.
Those 427 SOHC engines were Ford's response to the Hemi. And they sound awesome. I would like to see more 1/4 mile though....A+ video
Who was driving? Jim B?
Nice legendary car! thanks for sharing.
Thumbs Up Liked for you.
I remember Jack blowing off the top end and hood at Lions Dragstrip in the 1960s
nice cam!no just nitro! GREAT CAR!!!!!!
Jack's '64 Comet was the first fuel funny car?
They say it was the first funny car
these engines actually ROAR

SabreMetalPanzer i understand the chain was nearly 6.5 feet long and difficult to maintain or tyne.
Gear drives were made and used .
That's a scary ride...
I think I'm in love. I's have to change a few little things to make it my perfect gasser.
you dont change nothing on this car,you would have your arm amputated at the neck
great video just subscribed
RIP Jim 7/28/17
:-( Sad news.
Never got to see Chrisman run, but did get to see Nickelson beat Dick Harold Three straight. Wasn't even a good race.

Thanks for posting this.
1/8th mile is for wimps
That run sucked🤣.
i think maybe its you who "sucks" as a full time job
YES IT SUCKED !
In competition what times did this car run?

To Michael Miserocchi It was the 429 that was Fords response to the Hemi as I have read it. The 429 has Semi Hemi heads. the 427 didn't.

The 427.cammer was first not the 429.
