The name 'ERS15' in the scenario description comes from the classification that Pennsylvania used on the locomotives. The letters are for the make and class of the locomotive (E means it is an EMD and RS means Road Switcher) the numbers are for the power rating of the locomotive and are classed in the hundreds. GP7s had 1,500hp so the number 15 is used to show it.
Squirrel always plays games the way they're meant to be played. I like that.
A neat little fact about Pennsylvania and trains is that they produced the first t-rail in the United States in a town called Danville and the same town is home to Christopher Latham Sholes, who created one of the first typewriters (also known as the Rimmington No. 1) and the QWERTY keyboard design that we still use today. It's interesting what you can learn after a google search on Pennsylvania and Trains.
Squirrel , i have family that live 3 miles away of the horseshoe curve and i have personally been there. It is a really cool place that if your there you have to see.
I live 2 hours away from this!!! This yard is pretty insane how much freight traffic it gets.
These first generation locos had the high nose for safety in a crash. That's why there's so few windows. In the second generation units, they started using cut down noses and then put center windows. But many of these early units also had the long hood end, considered the front... not the short hood end. Once again, they considered that a safer practice, in case of a collision. So technically, you were probably running it backwards.
I grew up in Pittsburgh in the 70-80's next to a rail line. At that time the steel industry was in decline yet it was common to see 2 or 3 locomotives pulling and 2 or 3 pushing hundreds of cars in a single load. By the late 80's-early 90's the length of the trains was reduced dramatically as industry ground to a halt all across America.
Loosing points for speeding while busy looking at the scenery. Two years later and Squirrel hasn't changed much on that XD
the GP7 is now a monument at the actual horseshoe curve, i love seeing it there... unfortunatly i think they removed it because of vandals or something
It’s still there.
Yep, been repainted recently!
Don't worry about the dang car models! The scenario itself takes plane IN the 1950s to the 1960s. EMD F7s went out of build and production 1953, and out of commercial usage in the 1960s. It is if you see 21 century cars, then you have the reaction that you had. Don't worry about it...

On GP's in the states, they don't haft to walk around to get to the other side. There is a small space for the crew to walk around the controls in the cab. There are typically 2 doors on a engine. One behind the engineer, and one on the opposite side of the locomotive in the front part of the cab.
Ethan Hayes. 3 because of the one in front of the nose
Hey Paul, the speeding penalty applies if you exceed 1mph above posted limit. Eg. Exceed 16mph in a 15mph zone, so 15.9mph would be ok.
Love your work, keep it up.
So I googled the EMD GP7 Penssy and there is a picture of that train in actual service! That is pretty cool.
I love the names and personalities of these people in this scenario
Paul, at 9:05, when you said belts, those were air hoses, which connect air pressure to control the breaking for the whole train. In real life the guy, Jeff in the Jeans would be connecting them, or that string of cars you connected to would already have them connected, so that you had air pressure to operate the brakes.
Been here many times. Great site fit train enthusiasts.
This is by far my favorite train
I’ve always been into trains and videos like these are amazing
Hey Squirrel really liking this series. I volunteer at the railway museum here in Illinois so im pretty familiar with a lot of this historical equipment. At one point you asked about the "belts" between the cars when coupled. Those are actually hoses for the air brakes that would be connected before the consist started moving. I hope you do some steam locomotives in the future since that's what I work on. Its really not as hard as it might seem.
I was at horseshoe curve once when I was a small boy it is a truly amazing monument to engineering I think
30 cars is a small train in america
100 cars is about normal
Lelelele lololololol
Well considering England is super small and America is super big (Canada is bigger yaaaaa)
That’s very smol 😆
Good start, mate. Going to be interesting to see what you make of the Horseshoe and Pennsylvania coal country over the course of the career.
If you didn't know, Pennsy (with a stress on the "s" like in Snake) is not part of the locomotive name. It is just short for the railroad which is the Pennsylvania Railroad. Like so he can see.
Nice to see you're driving a train in my home state squirrel :D
Altoona is actually only about an hour from me i think
Squirrel, about those cars:
The locomotives you are seeing entered service around 1954. The railroad you are working for only existed until 1968. I'm pretty sure those 1950s cars are "new" in the setting you are in. ;)
Laughed the whole way thru. Yes, we do leave things laying around in yards. Railroad police usually do good job of keeping it safe. They kept looking at watch...hm...Maybe a hint that you were running late? :)
The type of train that squirrel is driving is the same kind I hearpassing through my town all the time. :D
Keep the Train Sim vids coming Squirrel. I bought ETS2 because of your videos and you got TS14 because you love me...
Back then,the railways used GP7s for freight to. Other engines in its class were GP9, GP10, GP15, GP16 , GP30, GP35 ,GP38, GP40 , GP50 , and GP60!
If you do check out Altoona on google maps, go north east of the goods yard... there's a train consisting of what appears to be 2 locomotives with ~144 cars! It just goes forever!
The car models you see Paul reflect the time that the locomotives you are using were active. The guys were wearing coveralls.
I've been in several GP-7's, and they are fairly dark confined little cabs.
A few weeks ago there was one that had an engine fire. It was two miles long and cut my entire town in half for about 8 hours until they could get new locomotives to come pick the cars up.
Trains in in the USA are commonly around a mile or two long, unless it is a local or any other type of special train. Mainline freights are the longest.
The fencing was used to separate the main line from the yard to protect yard crews from wandering onto the main
great video can't wait too see how you get on with the other tasks.
Squirrel funny thing is I actually live next to that train yard in real life and they actually do leave that stuff out and sometimes the Altoona police bust people getting copper
that band looks like the Air breaks/train breaks lol. NO breaks for you squirrel
I don't have this game. But the representations looks fairly accurate of the yard in the late 60's to early 70's.
3:30 Squirrel, I live in the Eastern Tennessee region of the States, and the coal trains that run by my house average about 110 carriages and 2 engines.
Really enjoying these, the PRR Baldwin Centipede might be a loco you might be interested in for the Horseshoe, Not sure how advanced the model is but looks like a good drive, cant wait for the next TS video :D
thanks squirrel, now im not bored
Squirrel plz do more of these I love this! this is why I subscribed!!
great video squirrel, and you should really make a video of a long freight job on a long route
Squirrel, in America, there are freight trains that can haul more than 70 cars with 3 or 4 locomotives at the front. Just to let you know. :)
Lovin the Train sim vids squirrel! Keep it up! Btw, ive been there and it looks like they have done a pretty good job modeling Altoona.
Promod, thats what i meant. For train sim, i have the horshoe curve but i dont play it much. I already want the london to ipswich route but even more since it goes through your hometown.
Pennsy RR went out of business years ago. The old cars fit the period.
And for pronunciation, Altoona sounds like Al Tuna. Juanita is June E At A.
"Alright mate, youv'e got a light in yours. I don't."
"Ohh yes i have. But its still dark!"
A train that's a mile long? Incredible.
If you consider getting any DLC you should try the ATN Consolidation. Its a stunningly realistic rendition of a steam locomotive and compared to these diesels it was the first legitimate challenge I've ever faced in this game. Frankly, the Consolidation is one of the few trains that actually make this feel like a legitimate sim. Whats more its scenarios are for the Horseshoe Curve.
For a British alternative the Jinty is nearly as good, but not quite in terms of detail of operation.
hey squirrel when u wish to kill your speed without throttling down use your traction motor control that basically is your clutch and just like a clutch you can push down harder or softer to increase or decrease your torque output help on hills too... :)
Great Video, Squirrel. If you want a really challenging freight route you should do the route that is said to be among the hardest in the world. Los Angeles Shipping Terminal to Fort Worth. I don't know if it's available on the purchase but it would be sweet if it were. Lots of city driving and then tons of rural.
keep the good work SIR.. i do love your trains... more video pls. Norway
thanks squirrel enjoyed mind again Seattle too Carslile dlc run is buetifull I got it yesterday played keep enjoying train world truck etc
I live in Pennsylvania! :D It really is a beautiful place.
Even more beautiful on meth like everyone is there.
Those trains Squirrel usually have two engineers, and he/she usually gives you info from the other side where they're sitting:-)
There's a button to switch sides, if u bring up the HUD there's an big arrow pointing down click it and you'll switch sides
Cheers for the video, kept me going for a bit!
If you think US freight outfits are big, check out the iron ore trains used in Australia
Those "belts" dangling are the brake air hoses. US locomotive/train equipment is much different than UK equipment.
You should create you're own train Paul!
I love the way Squirrel either get's angry or is sarcastic.
In the 70 tonne volvo when he called that woman a 'cheeky bitch' was hilarious.
In this video he makes a lovely comment about a man's beautiful haircut, NOT!
Ya here in amarica we have big long trains.30 may not be the the longest.
Totally expected this would be the way you made your big giveaway. I wanted more questions XD
Paul, I live north on Pennsylvania and I get Train that pass my house that are over 100 car long. If you ever can manage to do a mission that has tons of rail cars.
Squirrel if you thought that place had a lot of rail lines look up North Platte, Nebraska, America
A timeliness penalty is where you are a little pit late but still close to on time.
The ERS 15 is the Pennslyvania RR version of the EMD GP7 road switcher. It is the same thing as a EMD GP7 but Penn used a different name. Oh its pronounced Pen see
The things hanging down at 8:50 in the video are the air brake lines. And they shouldn't be hanging down like that they should be connected. XD
fail railsimulator or who made the models
hahah yea
Brakes? Who needs brakes?! :P
brakes? where we're going we dont need Brakes.
I'd love that too! -- PMDG 737-ness!
Proper train spotting stuff?! The next series should be a London bus sim..!?
largest train I counted was 7 engines 97 cars and 5 Blue cars. I always found the blue ones rare so I counted them separately.
I don't know if you will see this since I am answering some seven years late but the reason the automobiles are "doggey" is because this seberio is set in or around the year 1960. In fact the Pennsylvania Railroad will cease to be an independent company when it merges with its rival the New York Central Railroad in 1968. So the fact you are driving a penny says it is no later than 1968 but from the automobiles it is more like 1960.
Coming soon, I promise
Really would love to see a steam train vid from Edinburgh to London Squirrel would love to see what would happen
hey squirrel you should check out on google Enola Yard or Conway Yard in PA lol those are some huge yards especially Conway Yard because back in the 50's it was the World's Largest Rail Yard
This route is set in the 1950's, so that is why the cars are from that era.
Cool vid Paul
Squirrel you made my day :)
3:32 That's what she said
ROFL
torogami2 GOT EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And RRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol
When driving a freight train like that you have to operators The motorman on the right just drive the train making sure everything goes as it should and the conductor on the left makes sure the load they are pulling gets to it delivery point as well looking out for any trouble that might lye a head..
@10:40 to switch to other side of the driver seat press the left arrow key.
Keep it up!!! I love your videos!
They actually do leave stuff lying around as shown. Just know there are plenty of cameras and rail police in the yards in the U.S.
I live about 20 miles from Altoona PA. the place where u did the first mission.
This is awesome, actually! :)
At the start "And thats actually this tractor."
Think you mean train :P
If you think the size of this yard is insane, you should look up one of the big yards.
3:34 trains that come by my house are usually 50 to 90 cars per train
I wonder if you could use flight throttle controls for the accelerator and break?
I live in Pennsylvania and I've also been the horse shoe park.
Love these videos keep it up
Nothing to watch, until I found this :D
You can go 0.9 mph/kph over your speedlimit before you get fined for speeding. if the limit is 15 you can do 15.9 without losing points.
Squirrel, a will you be covering the Pacific Surfliner route?
In north of sweden we have trains that are 60-70 cars of freight. Passing my house 5-10 times /day
You should stream saturday trucking and trains so u would have a sunday off xD
Love the bids keep up good work bro
here in the states a good average train will run 75 carriages or more
