Yesssssss Richmond d heights, best neighborhood ever😊😊😊😊
😄🤗
I was born there in 1951 grew up and enjoyed the best days of my life. Back then we all worked together and made lots of memories and history
That sounds lovely ☺
Back in the 90s those neighborhoods were filled with families that was always outside or at parks ,we played baseball, even raced with bikes and go carts it was alive
I believe it ☺
Exactly it was awesome now it's dead as can be
True
I'm proud to be a product of Richmond Heights. Great video.
Thank you Rashel!
Me, too!
Great job. I grew up in Richmond Heights. My aunts still live there, as do some of my high school friends. I LOVE Richmond Heights.
Thank you for watching and for sharing that! I love the area so much too.
@@AngieMBlanco It's changed a lot. The gentrification worries me some.
@@alisonbethel7541 It definitely has changed quite a bit. You're absolutely right
@alisonbethel7541
Yes, we should be very concerned. Their not moving in our neighborhood to be neighborly or a part of our neighborhood. They are moving in with an intent to take it over.
@@alisonbethel7541Thanks for this "reality check." Gentrification is slowly changing the original identity of this exceptional community of African-Americans. I have created the first documentary video on Richmond Heights and it will address the issue of Race Relations!
GREAT video! I've driven by this neighborhood before and there's a lot of potential in the area. Keep up the great work! 🙌🏽💙
Thank you! I love this neighborhood too 😊
A family member of mine recently purchased a home there. They really like it so far.
That's amazing! I'm glad they're happy there 😀
Just closed on a home here! Love I getting land for the money. Blessed to have very friendly neighbors that I feel super comfortable moving in. Neighborhood is definitely changing.
That's so awesome! Very happy for you and the amazing investment you've made 😊
Changing for sure.
the best thing I did was move from this city nothing to do no jobs, I live in Hallandale Beach Fl which is close to Miami and Hollywood Beach Fl the night life is great it's a lot of jobs that's available and paying good.
Sounds like you're enjoying it up in Hallandale more. It's definitely a different scene. That's great!
I Prefer Hallandale beach Florida more it’s just a beautiful city and is growing in businesses and communities.
Defintely a beautiful area
Amazing how the majority of the people that are moving into our neighborhood now put up 6 foot privacy fences; most have boats; and do not pull permits, yet, remodel the houses. The hopes of taking over this historically Black neighborhood, like with everything else, is sickening.
I do agree
Sadly you’re not wrong..I moved from my childhood home on carver drive, a block away from the park and immediately the was was bought by foreigners who remodeled the whole house then rented it out to more foreigners. They can keep it though because the previous owner before me was murdered in the living room and my whole life I’ve experienced things that people think I’m crazy for when I tell them story’s.
I grew up here and I’m still here!!!
About 20 years ago Richmond heights was a money spot . Cool area tho
It's currently a pretty hot area
This is amazing part history of Richmond Heights
The completed history include this is a dumbly black African-American neighborhood that was made for for black people
Correct created for African American Soldiers and it was beautiful families we played and learned and had a wonderful family life
This neighborhood was created for Black World War II veterans in 1949 and had the same housing amenities as Coral Gables.
Not any more I moved to Richmond Heights when I was three and a half years old and it was a beautiful place for black American families I grew up there I went to elementary school their junior high school senior high school there and my parents are still there and they're home but it's not the same it's just not the same and as for me I don't think I would ever go back there to live I did it there because my parents are there but it's just not the same for me
… dumbly?! Really?! You should not post lies. It’s reflective.
No y’all be doing the most
The houses were built for black people that's why they were built so small with one bathroom smh
In 1949, when the homes were build, a one bathroom was standard. The developer Captain Frank C. Martin worked with the University of Miami to design not only the homes but the neighborhood in its entirety. He leveled the playing field with this neighborhood by providing the same amenities that were afforded to the communities developed for non-Blacks despite it being during Jim Crow.
@@TheCultureXYZ I'm sorry but I disagree, I'm not gonna go back and forth but just like you think you know I think I know also I moved there when i was 3 1/2 years old and I'm 52 now my mom and dad are still there in their house so you can't tell me nothing about Richmond Heights that I don't already know I know the story about Frank C Martin and all of that I know all of that they knew exactly what they were doing when they built those houses with that one bathroom some of them have one-and-a-half bathrooms so you can save that for somebody who don't know any better thank you and God bless
@moniqueycure1270 Good morning Monique. I am Jessica Garrett Modkins and I am the publisher for The Culture. I wrote the book Images of America: Miami's Richmond Heights and directed the films Richmond Heights 49ers and Miami's Richmond Heights which is streaming on all platforms (Crackle, RedBox, RoKu, Plex). I am also 52 and I was giving you information based on the pioneers account. Like you, I wasn't alive in 1949 but my house on Polk Street had 2 bathrooms but our other home, my grandparents home on Monroe, had 1. In fact, we had to be in school together at the Jr High or Killian. Again, I was only giving you the information I received. No disrespect or ill intent. Great connecting. I'm sure we are classmates.
@@TheCultureXYZ omg that's you Jessica you were one of my favorites how are you
@TheCultureXYZ
Thank you so very much for attempting to enlighten this person. Unfortunate that seems to be impossible. I was born and raised in this community in the early 1960’s, and all that you posted is true. The ignorance of people wanting to spread misinformation is ridiculous. In the late 50’s and 60’s, (when this neighborhood was established), unless you were very wealthy), black and white homes in every state, had a standard 1 bathroom.
I’m not thrilled with this influx of people. This has always been a very high demographic of Democratic voters. Those moving in our community, are not.
This is the hood. My cousins used to live there and had their home burglarized multiple times. They sold their home and fled to West Kendall as soon as they could. If you’re not African American, you’re targeted here. Sorry, just the truth from a Miami native 🤷♂️.
It's not really the hood. They're blacks and Hispanics that live there and the area is getting better. Maybe it wasn't too good in the 80s but in 2022 crime has gone down a lot. The subway got robbed and I was there when it happened but it can happen anywhere. Kendall is nice
@@floridaroadways what you're saying is wrong this place was awesome in the 80s like I said I'm 52 years old I grew up there every since I was three and a half years old it's good and bad in every neighborhood it's burglar burglaries and every neighborhood don't get it twisted you're trying to say it's a bad neighborhood because it's a black neighborhood that's not true your cousin should have stayed where they were if that was the case if you think that way about black people this is ridiculous and it's disrespectful nobody didn't ask y'all to move in over there that was a neighborhood for black Americans nobody asked you all to move over in there this is ridiculous yeah I said it I went there you can come for me if you want to I don't care talking about dishes the hood please go somewhere with that like you all are perfect man you better get out of here with that
