Hey man, I gotta say I love your videos! I feel like we're going through the path to optometry school together. Your videos have peaked my interest in Midwestern and every time I have a question on something, bam! you've got a video on it. Thanks for all your hard work :)
I was so lost trying to figure out how to register for OAT, thank you so so so much for this! Also, I know the cycle opens up around June 30. How long does it take for the school to receive your OAT score? I'm trying to figure out when to take it in order to have everything ready when the cycle opens up.
OAT scores take up to 3 weeks to send their official scores to the schools-- but you can send your unofficial scores to them via email earlier! As long as you have everything in before January, you're considered an early applicant!
Hey, this video is so helpful. So, I'm going to be scheduling an exam. I'm just super confused when they asked for a DENTPIN. Is that the pin that starts with OAT- or is it the pin when I started the application? Ah, I'm so nervous.
Haha yes I went on the prometric website to schedule my test. It’s asking for my eligibility ID. I assumed it would be the PIN that I use to log in on the Association of Schools and College of Optometry.
Hey, I was wondering how did you study for the OAT. It has been over a year since I last took any chemistry or physics classes at my university. I have forgot lots of it and was thinking of relearning all the classes and then study for the OAT. Would this be to time consuming and how did you go about it? Also how in depth is the material on the OAT for each subject? Another question which does not relate to this is how does financial aid work in optometry school? Does a student get residency in the state after living their for a year so they could get in-state tuition. I appreciate your vids there really helpful.
No problem! I got a Kaplan book and I would do the practice problems at the end of each chapter, and then look through the chapter to find anything that I got wrong/didn’t know. I also did the free practice exam from Kaplan and a few practice exams from CrackOAT. and it does not go in depth at all- it’s an inch deep, but a mile wide- I would say studying from OAT study material would be 100% more beneficial than going over notes from classes! And then as far as financial aid, there are some schools that do in-state after a certain amount of time; you’ll have to reach out to schools individually on what their policies are (but I know that Houston and Ohio State offer some options like that)
Hey Josh!! I just recently started watching your channel and it's incredibly helpful! I had one question if you have time to answer. I'm a Comp Sci Engineering student, and I was wondering if I would have any chance for optometry school. My journey has been super hectic. I was originally Pre-Opto for 1.5 years so I completed some pre-reqs and lots of shadowing. Mainly my parents forced me to change because they were scared of all the debt but I know optom is my future. I am about to graduate, and I have planned on finishing my pre reqs as well as work to save money. Do engineers have any chance at optom school? My gpa is around a 3.2ish and my science is really low because of all the math and programming classes (maybe 2.6ish). I am aiming to get an OAT of around 330-350.
Thank you so much for reaching out! I actually have an engineer in my class right now! Those numbers sound good; and I’m sure they’ll understand your classes- I’d say aim high on the OAT and many schools will want you! Which schools have you reached out to??
@@joshreese_optometry As of right now I haven’t reached out to any schools. I’ve mainly just looked up online requirements regarding classes I need to take for each school as well as some OAT studying material. I do plan on applying to every college (besides 1 since I think I need to take an extra class which I don’t really want to do b/c it adds another semester) for the best chances. Right now I do want to make sure I keep focus on my current engineering classes though.

Im so glad that they have been helpful to you in some way!! Keep reaching out!
😅Not the "Title Text Here" @ 12:50 hahah--- what other help do you need for the OAT?
So helpful! Loved this video!!

Did the video help?
Hello, this video was very helpful just wondering if we are provided a periodic table or calculator during the exam?
Yes! You are provided both! They are a tiny bit hard to use, but they get the job done!

Haha no worries! I had the same anxieties- the DENTPIN I would assume to be the pin is the first number identifier they gave you!
Weird name for it tho, idk what the ada is doing

hey I can even find where to start the application-- like after I log in
