September 2024 Update: Adobe seems to have gotten rid of "Cracked Glass" material and introduced bunch of new subtle glass materials. I'd recommend "Scratch glass" material for this purpose. It's not really similar but it should give somewhat similar results. Let me know if you guys would like an updated 2024 version of this very tutorial, I'd be happy to record one for you guys :) Thanks for the love ❤
I'm not a pro in motion design but I believe new update in After Effects can import OBJ files directly from Adobe Illustrator and render animations in 3D space. No need to go to Adobe Dimension then
That is not possible with Ai+Dn alone. Metallic wire/rope is not a basic shape. You can only make depth, cylinders or round shapes here. For this you'll need to model it some place else or you can download OBJ of a wire / rope and then import in Dn to add materials and textures to it. Ai is limited that way.
Unfortunately, Adobe Dimension received a major update and the material has been removed from the library but many more have been added as well. Closest one I could find is "Scratch Glass". Play with it's properties to create bigger scratches :)
Make sure to update Illustrator to 2023 or 2024 and apply 3d extrude before exporting. If you still don't see it, send it to me on Discord. I'll be happy to take a look at it
hello All Adobe Dimension beta 4.0.2 is out Update Adobe Dimension to the latest Adobe Mercury rendering engine, Adobe Standard Material, and updated UI components and systems. Dimension 4.0.2 d.4085 - Windows - 28 days ago Dimension 4.0.2 d.4086 - Mac - 28 days ago
Is it possible to export from Dimension and import the 3D model into After Effects, while keeping the material/texture properties from Dimension? When I import my model AE does not keep the same sheen/Index refraction as the model in Dimension. The model is transparent, however it doesn't look like Glass at all. It's just a super flat and dull render.
I'm not very sure about AE import settings but I've seen few examples where you can import OBJ models, can't confirm if it picks up same textures and materials as well.

@@VarunKumar is there any way where we can apply a gradient on the 3d object created in illustrator?
Hi Varun,
Would you be able to create neon glass tubes effect? And make as a Photoshop brush preset?
Do you have a reference for this? If yes, share it with me on Discord nd I'll help you out.

Hey, that 3D texture "Damaged glass" is not in my Dimensions, where do I find it? Thanks
Could you confirm the version of your Adobe Dimension? I'll take a look :)
😊
where can i find that font?
I'm not sure I remember this exact font but wider "Black" fonts should work well with these effects :)
