I just used one for the first time this morning. It’s going to take some practice to get used to it. I’m mowing a small green behind our golf course garage.
It’ll whup your tail the first couple times for sure if you’ve never used one and never had someone show you “the way”. Once you get used it it, it’ll seem easy/natural.
Very nice! Good seeing how it runs. I just bought one via gov deals. I’m picking it up next weekend. It’s a king 522 15 blade. I think I’m going. To swap to a less aggressive reel. Do you think it’s worth getting the groomer attachment? I think I’m going to try to avoid scarifying or verticutting. I’m about an hour north of Charlotte.
The groomer is quite pricey for these. $2,300+ last time I looked. Always better to buy one with it already included. The 15 blade is great if you're mowing a putting green, I'd def swap out to fewer blades otherwise. Hard to find less than 11 for the 522, only 15, 14, and 11 available from Jake or R & R. I'd prefer a 7 for HoC over .250"/6mm, maybe a 9 if you were going to keep it at or around .250". There's a guy on the FB groups that says he can make a reel for those with any count you want.
Great to see your video! I just replaced the reel on my 522a and finally figured out how to get things back together properly with your help Now I’m at the new reel, new bed knife back lapping situation. Trying to learn how to do it precisely. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Set the distance with folded paper as a feeler gauge. Or an actual feeler if you have them. Then it’s as simple as spinning the reel backwards, brushing on the compound, and rinsing it out. Do not spin the reel forwards until you’re sure it’s rinsed out. Then bring the knife in closer until it’s reliably cutting folded copy paper.
Hello Quick comment the sticker above the traction control says if I’m correct do not engage traction control while engine is running. If I’m right you’re supposed to engage the traction control prior to starting the motor
As long as the main clutch is disengaged, it’s fine. If you have InCommand Controls, and the main clutch (centrifugal) does not disengage when then bail is released, the engine idle speed may need to be adjusted.
I'm looking at an older, used Jacobsen 118. Could you give any insight on those? I don't have a huge lawn, so a larger width isn't exactly a need. I have TIF Bermuda, using a manual reel mower. Thanks
I bought the same one.. 😆 sometimes the clutch for the drive wont work correctly. Can the mower be on and then I engage the drive clutch or should it be off before i engage the drive clutch.. Thank you.
Hey Brian. After using that mower would you still recomend it? I have a swordman, and afew other reel mowers but came across this one and was wondering what you think of it as of today
I’d do it all again for sure. I bought it because nothing cuts like a Jake but as I used it more and more, I came to realize it has many advantages for home use over many other greensmowers.
I just started using a Mclane 2 months ago. Like the cut and look of a short yard without the scalping marks that all the neighbors have. Where is a good service company in our area?
@@upstatedigger7361 the only time I’ve had someone grind for me was Greenville Turf and Tractor. They did a great job, for a price of course but they were able to get my mower turned around in two days. Have a guy in Hendersonville that I intend to try next spring.
Those controls are impressive. Great video. 👍🏼👍🏼
Very good review Brian. The Jacobson looks like a great mower.
Thanks for the review! I just got a PGM 22 and super excited to get started. Working on lawn now to get it ready.
Great Video I have an older version of the same machine and it works well. Would love to see the video of the 22" verticutter you've got.
I really enjoyed your video. I just got 2 518A. I'm going to need some parts for sure to get them running. The choke and throttle for starters.

What's the lever on the right side for? I just bought an older GK 522 and it looks my lever broke off. If that a parking brake or something?

I've found one for sale but there's no drive. Could this be an easy fix?

How high can you go? 3,4 inches?

Brian lawyer. I just bought one. Now i need to know how to dial in the height of cut? I do not have one of those tools
Does Jacob have a vertical cut attachments?
Yes. Fairly rare on the 526. Very common on the 518 and 522, and PGM machines.
@@GoFastGator Do you know as good website for used Jacobs?
I have a few questions to ask if you have time... I’m looking to buy a 522 ASAP
