I'm new to reel mowing. Just bought a Toro 1600 yesterday. I found this video extremely helpful. Best video I've found! Explanations were easy to understand; pace was just right. Thanks much!👍
I bought mine from my country club for $400. Mine just needed a new bed knife and a backlap. The ONLY issue I have is mine surges when not under load. I have put a brand new carb on it and tried some other things, but it still surges (or seeks). Yours looks much better than mine. I have some rust and stuff, but it cuts pretty darn well. I have taken off my transport wheels and axles. That was a game changer. I highly suggest doing that.
You explained that well. I’m thinking about doing the reel thing. We have 14000 sf of grass KBG/ TTTF mix. If I get a reel mower, I’ll just do one section (The Main Stage ) 3500 sf. It’s a nice level area out front. I want that same mower you have. Thanks.
Edwin 2.1, next year I'll be grabbing a scarifier and possibly the lawn brush and an additional reel so I have a backup when I send the other out for sharpening. Been mowing 3 times a week with all this rain :)
Most golf courses dont use a greensmaster, we use the greensmaster flex or any other flex type of motor meaning a floating head. The reason for this wint matter to home owners with a flat yard. Golf courses mowing at and under .1000 of a inch means its extremely easy to scalp turf on humps and bumps or even flat turf at those heights. Mowing with a fixed head you need want to force the mower or push down, just let the mower do its thing just guide it. Sitting the mower down to hard on turns will scalp. No matter the mower used the result will be the same, you have people on both sides saying one thing or the other.
Awesome content! Would you recommend this mower for yards that are not quite as nice as yours? I’m just starting out and still need to level a lot of spots. I use a 7 blade manual reel now and it’s fine but would it hurt this mower ?
Question: Do you scalp with your greensmaster 1000? I just got mine and each time I engage the motor with the reel on, the reel wont spin? What might I be doing wrong?
Your mower has to be moving in order for the reel to spin. It won’t spin unless it’s engaged, and you’re moving forward. Hopefully that touches on your question!
Maybe this is a dumb question...but with alot of rain coming and possibly having to apply a Plant Growth Regulator.....could you literally just mow more often and avoid applying that?
A Greensmaster Flex 21, 2100, 2120, and the latest 1021 are floating head mowers that contour to undulations better than a fixed head mower seen in this video.
those mildewed cedar fences make me think you live in greater Houston. I live in a new-ish neighborhood in Fort Bend, builder put in common Bermudagrass. What kind of turf do you have? I've been using a Fiskar's staysharp, mow 2-3X/week at about 1 5/8". I know I need to top dress my lawn, sod guys didn't do a very good job of laying the sod. Assuming I can get my lawn level, can I cut common Bermuda at 3/4"?
I have to get a california trimmer because of only local reel mower supplier; must decide between 20” and 25” models; 7,700 sq ft lawn; tifway 419 Bermuda; eastern NC… have a recommendation on which unit to buy?
@@toddhickey1956 if there isn’t a huge price difference I would go with the wider model. The wider your reel is, the cleaner cut you’ll get.. especially if your lawn isn’t super level.
Just like anything else, the more you do it the easier it becomes. It will bully you the first couple times you use it, especially if you’ve never used a reel mower before. Now it’s not difficult at all to maneuver though.
I’m actually on your side on this one. I’ve actually read articles since releasing the video saying the same thing. I just did it because I always saw folks on Facebook Marketplace do it whenever they were trying to sell their vehicles and figured there was something to it. I was wrong 😂
@@adamfrbs9259 so, you really think someone “worldwide” is going to get your plate number, find out where you live & then steal your lawnmower? Really? It’s a lawnmower not a Fabergé egg. Thank you Bobby! Glad you found it helpful!
Love my 2016 GM1000. Great video for those looking to get into our sick addiction.
Haha. I was hooked from the very first pass!
Can't wait to get one! Still rocking the ole manual reel mower.
You’ll never turn back! At least you’re getting a heck of a workout haha
Just got my first gas powered reel mower this morning, a 2006 GM 1000. Thanks for the detail on how to run it. Can’t wait to start mowing with it!
Ur lawn definitely stand out on our community ! Looks awesome

I’m thinking about undertaking a big landscaping project this summer to kind of eliminate the downside of the transport axles. We shall see!

Thanks Mike! KBG will stripe up really awesome! You’ll enjoy it.
Thank you for this video. I just bought an older greensmaster 1000 but this video is very helpful!
You’ll love it, Jason! Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
Love my Swardman! Really makes the lawn look amazing.
Those machines are awesome! Especially all the different cartridges. Which model do you have?

Keep up the good work! Love my GM1600! Congratulations on the recent family addition as well.
I love the wider stripes they put down! Thanks!
Loved your video! Looking for the TGM1000 myself. Feels like the prices have gun up from a few years ago but still worth it.
Oh your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. They definitely have!
Thanks for sharing. Mine sounds nothing like that with the reel engaged. Sounds like I need to check some clearances.
This was an awesome video, thanks for making it!
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video, I just got a GM1000 yesterday this was really helpful, thanks!
Glad it was helpful! I’ll post videos on how to change the height of cut, backslap, and grease it at some point this season too!
Sweet machine. I cant wait to buy one soon.
Thanks for showing me how to use my Toro Greensmaster 1000. I have Geo Zoysiagrass I'll mowing at .75 inches.
Glad you found this to be useful! You’re gonna love it!
You found a good one and good price. I got a Allett battery,, smaller lawn.
Those battery Allett and Swardman units look awesome!
I really like how you have your trees edged up. Do you have a metal ring in the inside?
I do not! It’s just a live edge. No barrier at all.
Looking really great.
Thanks John!
Still on the lookout for a GM 1000 on the used market but still coming up dry. Crossing my fingers!
Crossing mine for you! Happy hunting!
Beautiful lawn. How did you keep your lawn green and smooth? Thanks
I've leveled it several times, and last year we were blessed with a lot of rain! Having to work a little harder this year.
Thank you for replying. When will it be the best time for aeration and leveling. Thanks
Great video. I just got my “new to me” 2002 GM 1000 last week. Been going through it performing maintenance. Thanks for the great content.
Glad it was helpful! Be on the lookout for some more videos regarding the GM1000 in the not so distant future!
Very helpful brother!
Glad it was helpful! You have a Greensmaster?
@@LawnInsider - Yep, same mower as you!

Just found one with the groomer installed also. Do you recommend one that’s combined?
Absolutely! If you can get it at a decent price, pull the trigger.
Hey I’m buying one too. Do you think it can fit in a sedan hatchback with the back seats folded down? I seen some guy pick one up in a Prius lol
Interesting question lol I have no idea. I wouldn’t think it could do it easily. Perhaps laid down. Would be weary of the liquids.
I use a tru cut presently. My hope at some point is to get a toro like yours.
Where do you get your reel sharpened? I'm located in the same area.
I got my most recent grind at the Silverhorn Golf Club in SA
What do you think about the toro greensmaster 1000 flex
I think they’re good machines. They can’t cut as high (I think up to 1/2”) and they don’t require the greasing the regular Greensmasters do!
Maybe this is a dumb question...but with alot of rain coming and possibly having to apply a Plant Growth Regulator.....could you literally just mow more often and avoid applying that?
Do you know anything about a Toro 2100?
Not really, when I Googled it, it looked like a gator?

I have a used old one from Facebook market place. It starts but I don’t see the tires on mine. How do I put new tires?
What's the max HOC on this mower?
I’m not 100% sure, but I’m fairly sure it’s 1”.
You have an 8 or 11 blade?
I have an 11 blade reel
Whats your pictured height of cut?
.55”
I just bot two for just 100.00 + tail thank you

Sounds like a great deal!
Man ffs who would let their precious ToroGreenmaster 1000 sit in a rain like that!?? You`re breaking my hearth dude.
How wide is the cut?
I believe it’s a 21” cut.
Could you upgrade microphone? Thanks :)

OR buy the best reel landmower a new Allett. No second hand here. You can out fit it with 5 different attachments. Way more versatile than a Toro.
