Made a list to add to your notes if you want to copy paste so you can remember which ones you want to ask about:
    1. Learn something about your swing (why you hit well/not well)
    2. Ask about the build (Specs of the club i.e. length)
    3. Distance Matters
    4. Tee Height Matters (Hitting high on clubface vs low)
    5. Control Spin loft (by changing loft on club)
    6. Know your strike tendencies (Kind of like #4, know where you hit the ball on the clubface)
    7. Don't overlook the grip
    8. Re-test driver given vs. your driver
    9. Bring your own golf ball if you use 1 specific brand
    10. Get all of your data
    11. Differences between demo and actual club fitted
    12. Know your own game

    • @markkalinowski2180
      @markkalinowski2180 3 года назад

So true - I have been through at least 4 custom fits over the past 10 years and have NEVER even been offered a club with the grip size I play, let alone the grip I play (Winn DriTec Midsize, plus 2 wraps full grip length). Every time I have requested that the fitter at least put on a midsize grip, I've been told that grip doesn't matter and the fitter has refused to do it. Golftec fitter was the absolute worst and actually got nasty about it - I walked out of the fitting session and never went back. Here in the US, fitters have one concern - sell you the most expensive golf clubs they can, regardless of whether they are a good fit or not.

Great video. Thanks. One thing I think you should add is alignment. The majority of golfers align inconsistently on the course, I'd hazard a guess that this is even truer hitting into a screen. Case in point, I've been to 2 fittings recently and was just hitting draw after draw after draw. My on course shape is a straight ball with maybe a hint of fade. Now both fitters then try and straighten out my draw when in reality I was just aiming way right of the correct starting line in relation to the launch monitor. I don't play a draw on the course, I just can't align properly in a hitting bay. Junk in = junk out. It should be standard practice to setup alignment rods so that the variable of alignment is completely eliminated from the dataset.

I watched this video the day it posted then again tonight. In fact, I watched it twice tonight. The first time watched I didn't LISTEN to what was being said. The second time through I did listen (albeit, while practicing my Larry half-swings) and not just hear you guys talk. The third time was uninterrupted. This has to be one of the best videos you made for your audience. Previously, you educated viewers on equipment and ball reaction but not the motor for the gear. True, there are lessons to tune up that motor but nothing to work on the software. Being mentally prepared for the fitting is as important as it is physically. I believe you addressed that issue here.

Could we or should we take any club back to the fitter and get them measured to confirm the details? Great content guys as usual. Stay Safe. 🌈

I think another tip, although maybe assumed. Pay for your fit. I've been into big box stores over in Scotland with no intention of buying the club, I just wanted to use their gc quad and hit a few drivers. But that experience was an eye opener, I was hitting the ball pretty rubbish that day but according to the fitter / sales person after watching me hit 10 shots he was convinced this £450 driver was 100% the one for me and I could have it in 3 working days delivered. I think it's one of the most tricky things about club fitting is knowing who is good and who is not. Who is a knowledgable club fitter, who is local club pro that sells clubs and who is a sales person. Great video with really useful advice. It's helped me. Thanks.

Ian, Matty this format worked really well. Particularly the graphics. If you guys could get a white board and perhaps do more videos where you illustrate what’s happening with club delivery data etc. I struggled to understand bounce and grind in my wedges and I think if you drew it on a board including things like the effect of shaft lean etc also the sole of a club by drawing it against a reference point such as the ground the penny would drop a lot more quicker for people. Be good to see more of it in 2021

I am going for a driver fitting Saturday so i am glad i came across this. My "fitting" for my current driver was nothing like this. That session started with my wanting to reshaft my gamer. The fitter out right told me i needed a low spin head and a XS shaft. I didn't test any heads, he basically told me what head to get. I get that head in, he has me test one shaft. Asks if I like it and that is what i left with. At the time i thought it was ok, but then i started noticing inconsistencies that i was at a loss. For those wondering, i was fit into a Epic Flash SZ with a Fujikura pro 63 x-stiff and I am a 30 hdcp.

Back before I got lessons, I went in for a fitting for a driver. I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. The fitter turned to me and said, "Hey, you look like you are getting frustrated. You mentioned you will be getting lessons soon. Do you want to pause this fitting, and come back after? No cost nothing. I want you to walk out of here feeling good, not just buying a club." Honestly, I was bummed, but I valued that they wanted to do the right thing for me, not to sell me a club. I've gone back to them for a full bag fitting and everything and trust them. I'll go back to them again because of it. They addressed everything you all put out on this video, with the exception of me asking about the build mirroring the fit. Love the stuff you guys put out! @TXG Fitting done by Golf Champion in SLC. As I talked to them they asked me where I heard about fitting. I told them online. The fitter (Kolton) said TXG was the only place on RUclips that knew what they were doing.
Driver upgrade. 229.4 carry to 267.8. Club speed, ball speed went up. Smash up, Tighter dispersion etc. was a good fit. Rouge Black 50TS TSI3 9*. (don't want to mention old driver)
Iron fit: 181 to a 194 carry (6 iron) smash went from 1.38 to 1.44. Tighter Dispersion. A big point in the iron fit was my spin was too high (???) and landing angle was too steep. Ball flight dropped 20 feet. Feel good about the fit. Modus 120x+.5 T100s. (old irons were 981 Titleist DCI)
Appreciate the content. If I am in Canada again I will try to stop by. If I had known about you when I was there two years ago I would have stopped by.

My expirience with a terrible fitting. I was fitted for new irons at a big box golf store, by the store manager who I knew, at the end of the golf season after lowering my handicap from a 13 to a 7 and was hitting the ball really well. Fitting went fine and was fitted for a regular flex shaft, 1/2" shorter and 2° flat.
By the time I got my clubs, I had fractured my wrist and never hit them for about 6 months after the snow melted . I lost distance and had this weak fade. I struggled the entire season and thought it was because of my wrist. I worked really hard on my swing to get better but my handicap fell back to a 14, mainly cause I couldn't consistently hit any greens, which was always the strength of my game.
It was not until last year (3 years later) that I realized 3 very significant things. 1) the shafts were a stiff flex, not regular. 2) the clubs were 1/2" shorter but they just cut the end of the shaft 3) it was a standard lie, not 2° flat. I just assumed that I got what I ordered and never even bothered to check. Who ever looks at their shaft flex after a purchase?
I recently had shoulder surgery and when I am done rehab and get by swing in better shape, I will be flying across the country to TXG and get the best fit available.

I am so glad you mentioned the golf ball !! Especially after you have proven the spin impact. How many times I have been in a retailer's bay with a hodge-podge of balls laying on the floor. Yes -- bring your own sleeves! If they need to mark them with a marker for the launch monitor so be it !! Wear the shoes you play with. Don't do it in your business shoes on a lunch break ! The other factor is there are sessions when you feel like you have players hitting up behind you and with an audience pissing you off in the back of your head! Try and get a private fitting with a fitter you are comfortable with.

Driver is coming around. Max LS. 4 wood is still a shaft struggle. Could tip it and not be waiting for it as much. Big foot lobby to replace my is taking some patience. Having watched this now would have helped in my new choices. But lack of choice and patience to wait for the right gear is the hinderance. I see a problem and want it fixed now. Wow! Could have done with this video years ago. Was fitted for an m2 , at the time I wondered why I wasn’t getting many shaft / head option to try but thought fitter knows best. Got the suggested set up and payed my money. A week later I get a phone call to say Taylor made can’t fulfil the order because they’ve brought out the new head but I can have that for the same price. Result!,( aye right) take delivery of the club, go play 1stround with the new driver. The setup was that bad the new club went into my garage after 6 holes and only came out again in October 20 to go on eBay. When wee Jimmy Kranky lets us cross the border again I think a trip to Scott gourlay might be in order

You guys are the best. I’m relatively née to the game, been playing for about a year and a half now, my game is coming along but I have developed a pattern of consistently hitting the ball low and missing with heavy shots. The low ball flight doesn’t bother me so much but hitting shots heavy does. I’m right in the middle in terms of swing speed my 34* 7 IRN goes about 155 etc.. I tend to be right near the center of the club face the majority of the time but catching shots heavy kills me. The real problem comes into play with my long irons and especially my driver. For whatever reason I cannot stop hitting down with my driver and sky TONS of drives that destroy my round. I’ve been playing long enough now to understand that I am doing something wrong, I’m not sure if I’m compressing to much or I’m leaning back but I have hit a wall. I really want to go get fit but I don’t see the point if I’m going to go and miss hit 1/2 of my drives. Do you have any suggestions for me to try and get away from hitting down so much?! I can hit 250 yard drives but because of the way my swing is I only get a proper shot 1/5 time. I can get away with my mid and shorter irons but I’m still losing distance and height due to my angle of attack. Basically what would be a good idea to try and stop hitting down so much with all of my clubs especially my driver and long irons. It would make a BIG difference to my game and I would actually be able to get fit properly. I would love to come get fit with you guys but I live in FL :/

I love your videos. I've been fitted for clubs. The problem is almost no other fitters are as good and thorough as you. I love watching your expertise and wish I could experience it. Usual fittings are too limited on time and are so one-dimensional. It's fascinating to watch the level and intricacies of your knowledge. With 90% of fittings out there, you have one hour, simply conparing heads, good luck, next customer. Oh to spend some quality time with you and walk out with truly the right tools for my golf game! Thank you for the joy of watching

Superb advice and expert knowledge and education from Ian and TXG. I hit like before it even started. I would add the following practical suggestions based on my interaction, experience and discussion with the experts at TXG over the years. Analyze your game prior to coming in, where are your misses, strengths. What are your goals and expectations. Pre select favourites. Don’t expect to hit every club and try every shaft. E.g. for drivers, what are your top 2-3 based on practice/trying. You’re not coming to a demo day. Practice before you come in. You don’t want to be coming in and hitting after a 2-3 month layoff. Invest in lessons. If you are part way through swing changes, better to wait 2-3 months and then get fitting. Communicate with your fitter on your likes, dislikes and ask lots of questions. Be open to recommendations, data is your friend. Anxiety. Don’t feel you have to hit perfect shots. You will be anxious, everyone is. Relax as if you were on the range and have fun. Budget - give some thought to this prior to coming in, start with what the manufacturer’s retail price as a starting point. Communicate this to the fitter and if there’s flexibility and finally and most importantly, let TXG build your clubs. Enjoy yourself and have fun. Fitting can tell you so much about your game and help you find the optimal clubs suited for you and your swing.

I was trying some shafts at a fitter, he fit me to ctaper lite x.I hit the shaft great.....that day, I've used lighter shafts in the past in irons and while they feel good when everything is no pressure, at the times I need to hit a shot extra weight helps me with tempo and timing. Great point on knowing what your game is.

Perfect timing since I’m looking at trying a new fitter this January after I was told “grab a grip you like off the shelf” from my last fitting 6 months ago, that still rubs me wrong to this day. Integrity & going through the whole process is vital because every bit of info matters

I recently had a fitting for irons that has left me feeling deflated. Looking back the whole process showed me that they havent handled the increase in demand well. The excitement of getting new clubs isnt just the getting them, its enjoying the process and examining the data so you can feel confident that things havent been rushed and you've explored the options out there. I feel for those who have limited access to top fitters.

I went for a fitting at my local shop in October where they use Trackman and hit range balls from an indoor bay to the range, so not a good start based on this LOL. Despite all that, I was happy with my fit and purchase. I even got a free “re-fit” within 30 days of receiving my driver to make sure everything was good and that it still performed as I wanted. I wish I could get more technical info to help, so it looks like I’ll need to take a trip to Canada eventually

LOL strike tendencies....my golfing partners fall asleep or scratch their heads when I try to explain why the ball curved right or dropped out of the air when I see the ball marks on their drivers. Thanks TXG.

Many years ago I went to a demo day looking for a 3 wood, tried several and loved one. Went in the store and bought the same model with the same shaft off the rack, it was not anything close to the demo. Couldn't hit it straight, everything went to the right. Told a couple of friends and one laughed at me when I said the shaft may be mis-marked so I had him hit it, this guy only hits draws and hit a big slice. He handed it back and said there's something wrong with the club. Brought it back to the store and they would not do anything for me. I told them to try it, basically prove me wrong and they refused. Contacted the manufacturer and they had me send it back. They changed the shaft for free but it still wasn't the same as the demo. Lesson learned.

I have a driver fitting in 5 days. I will have to drive 2 hrs each way. I do have an xl glove hand size and have seen other fitting videos where someone is getting fitted and all the grips are standard. Does not make for efficient test drives. Thanks for the tip. I will call ahead and give them my grip size, and swing speed guess.

All these points would be part of a proper fitting session. The fitter will cover most of them, you may need to prompt on the ones they miss.

I would also recommend telling your fitter when you book the fitting that these are the questions you will be asking to ensure they will be able to answer them. You don't want to pay for a fitting and find out half way through they can't even provide these things for you
