Hi Thomas. because of the restrictions here, i only get to workout at a proper home gym around 11:00 pm. Can i still build muscle and burn fat BUT breaking my fast before i workout? Therefore i also get to go to sleep after my post workout meal since it gets too late. Thank you

    I lost 130 lbs with Keto I.F.
Now I do cardio fasted at 6:00am with 30 minutes of core exercise and 20 stretching in the morning. Eat 45 minutes after workout. Work until 2:30am and then do my resistance weights for as long as I feel.
I have dinner at 6:00pm for a total of 3,000 calories a day.
I am still losing 2 lbs of fat a month but gain about 1 lb of muscle.
    I really feel good.
Now 188 with 20% body fat. Never want to be 316 lbs again!

I'm 59 and started a combo of IF and Keto in March. I totally gave up booze and sugar. I've lost about 80 pounds and feel great. I walk almost every night and do somewhere between 10,000-15,000 steps a day. One thing I noticed, my arms and chest which have always been solid are getting small. I told my wife I'm getting old man arms. I will hit the gym every two days and follow the eating plan you suggested for us older guys. Hopefully I can build back up again and get the body I had in my 30's when I hit the gym every day. Great video guys, very informative.

I'm so glad Thomas mentioned that people can be resistant to starting to carbs again because it's a bit of a tight rope to walk with cravings. Last time I tried a few carbs after 2 massive workouts I fell off keto for a week. I had a few grapes, berries and cashews post workout this morning before my meal and I've been full but craving food all day. Also just throwing out suggestions if your busy an can't fit in a walk post meal, do an active chore like cleaning. I'm eating now and will be brushing and mopping before taking my evening walk.

I tried keto and intermittent fasting for about 18 months while workout out regularly and now I do an anabolic diet with plenty of carbs and no fasting. The results for me have been night and day different. My gains now in all aspects have significantly improved, DOMS has been significantly decreased, and my cholesterol numbers have all came within range as before they were all out of range.

I know everyone is different, but today I discovered that I don't need to be in a caloric surplus to build muscle. 5 months ago I had a Dexa scan, and from that day until today, I ate 2200kcals/day, which is a 300-500/day caloric deficit, along with a 17/7 IF, and lifting 3-4 days/week. Lost 26lbs of fat, gained 6lbs of muscle. Both Thomas and Stan have been tremendously helpful.

I love this so much, I started the carnivore diet a while ago and cut our carbs completely and absolutely hated it it gave me literally no energy so I some back in to keep me going, not alot at all but enough to get through 3rd shift and I feel great. Mostly eating red meat, chicken once in a while, fish and protein shakes, some cheese. I've been progressively losing weight and not losing too much muscle, I'll fast between 6pm and 10pm. After I get home at 7 am I go for a 4 mile walk/ run and get home right around 10 pm and eat. Go to sleep right away I try to get atleast close to 7 hours of sleep but doesn't usually work out lol. I'll wake up and eat about 2 more times before 6pm/6:30pm and try to eat a gram of protein per bodyweight and do It over. I have recently hit a plateau so I had a ton of carbs and protein and fasted again and immediately lost 2lb and continue to drop, just had to shock the body a little bit lol. I was 300 lbs but I've been lifting since I was in highschool so I'm pretty built being 24 years old, but now I'm 273.2 and progressively losing weight and weight training around 3 times a week to maintain muscle but my primary focus is to lose body fat and continue to eat whole foods, keep carbs low until I'm at a weight I'm comfortable at, and keep additional sugars out. I also need to focus on staying as hydrated as possible.

@Thomas - love the journey you're on of integrating 'health' & 'fitness'. During this conversation with @Stan, you touched on the osmotic reaction that occurs when you flood the system with carbs / insulin too fast, and all the sodium and minerals rush from the bloodstream into the cell. What is the side effect of that? This is so fascinating to me, and would really enjoy learning more about this and how to better mitigate the negatives, and manage and manipulate the benefits.
Can you point me to any past videos or articles that explains this in more detail? Or possibly, this could be a future video topic? I do intermittent fasting and carnivore / keto and workout daily, and if I have a cheat meal, my personal experience is that it creates all kinds of electrolyte imbalances that linger for quite a while, no matter how much potassium, magnesium, chloride or sodium I consume during / after. Would really like to have a gameplan for this. Thanks!

Do a oral-glucose-tolerance-test, and you get a better feeling for your body, if you need more or less carbs for your fitness journey.

I think the main reason so many keto and intermittent fasting folks have such a hate relationship with carbohydrates is because many people that are following these protocols are diabetics. So we are searching a cure to diabetes as a primary goal versus bodybuilding and getting in super shape. Most of the people I talk to you that have this heat for carbs are in the camp.
