I’m 47. 11.7% bf, 6 pack abs. To summarize: I don’t count macros, 8hr window (10am-6pm): 3 meals + 2 snacks (all include protein). Whole, non process food. Workout 8-9am: Weight room 4-5 times a week, 40 min each session, 2 days of cardio, HIIT (timed 100m, 200m, 400m, 100 burpees, burpees with a weighted vest) 2-3 days of full body stretching + 10k - 13k steps every day. I been getting stronger and more fit with age. I’m very surprised myself. 1 main advice: With each workout, each day, I make sure I progress in just 1 thing! 1 set, 1 rep, 1 sec, 1 lb, .5lb, .0001lb , no progression is too small. Basically, improve on your performance in some way with each workout and your body composition will follow. Ppl think of body composition changes before performance improvement. Over years, it adds up! Stay strong!

Day by day, a step at a time and it would eventually become a lifestyle. It’s so ingrained in me that even when I’m hungover, I would still get a work out in. When I was in my 20's I worked out in the evening and felt like I could flip a car. In my 30's I realized the crisp morning air was awesome and my runs needed to be am. Then I was in the military mid 30's...everything is early-period. In my 40's waking at 3am, my 2 mile run and work out is always in the am. I think simply as we age as men you can't help but become one with the sunrise.

The only issues i had that i did need to elevate the quality of my food and that can get expensive. The other issue that elevating vitamin D intake without combining Vitamin K2 can cause some issues. Finally, I wasn’t able to stay active without fixing what I believe to be minerals imbalance by eating a lot of greens for potassium and taking quality magnesium supplement.

Thanks for all the great information, I’m 63 ex-military have always stayed generally fit, last year I employed a PT to get back in shape, enjoyed it and was doing 110 press ups straight off, while the gyms have been closed, have been using resistance bands, another thing which has amazed me,have been doing a few fasts, but have just watched your video, and will now implement the changes and see how I get on. ✊

There's a recent study that showed resistance trained men in their 60s having equal to or higher total testosterone levels versus sedentary men in their 20s. what's even more impressive is the free testosterone was also significantly higher in the older resistance trained group.
Moral of the story.. lift heavy lift often.

Very true. I exercise double and can see good results. Am 69 and surprised that I am keeping the same size, same height, same weight as when I was in the 30s. Doctor performed bone testing, did not see any difference. I exercise all my life, practicing sports like swimming and tennis. The pandemic happened and I can only do daily walking,2 hours daily, weekend hiking from Dawn to dusk, rain or shine and a few minutes here and there during the day on my peloton. I retired so I have plenty of time to keep my health at peak. Exercise is the key. Take care everyone ❣️

Thank you, Thomas! I'm 66 and have lifted off and on over the years, finished marathons, triathlons, and countless 10Ks. Your various videos are helping me use keto, intermittent fasting, prolonged fasting, and strength training to turn things around. Now that I'm getting into the gym regularly and doing legit barbell squats, I feel ready to put more effective structure in place to get more out of my workouts. This particular video is a great one for me. Below are my notes taken for myself, but may help others get more out of this. THANKS!

The ONLY REAL SAD PART FOR ME (chuckle) is I AM ADDICTED to working out here at my gym in THAILAND AT 2,3, 4 in the morning. I really can't and don't want to do the afternoon thing. My blood glucose is not an issue, I can care for myself. The problem is having the energy to work out. Intermittent fasting is very difficult despite times when I have zero appetite. Cardio is effective for weight loss, which follows consistency in the cardio area. I do my best, issues always emerge. Thanks for your channel, helps me out a lot. Great video although I generally believe the advice for building muscle in your 40's is no different than when you were younger, assuming you have no major health issues. 40 something is still young for strength gains. Building muscle only starts to become genuinely more difficult past 50. If you have built a solid foundation in your 20's and 30's than you probably easily maintain most of that muscle way into your 60's without external hormonal assistance.

Thanks for the video Thomas. As with many of these RUclips exercise vids, I watch them with a wry smile on my face. I'm now 70 years old. I took up martial arts training when I was 24. Over the next 32 years, I have made no less than 8 attempts to get something approaching the classic, martial arts, physique you see in the movies. I was never out to take on Arnie! I just wanted a more athletic build. When I could afford them, I used protein supplements, amino acid supplements, a multivitamin/mineral supplement; I followed the pattern of 1 gm of protein per pound of body weight [ which peaked at 180 pounds, and I'm 5' 11''] I spread my 5 meals out over the day [ not always easy when I was working] I weight trained 3, sometimes 4 times a week on top of my karate training. My first attempt lasted 19 months. At the end of which I decided to check the tape measure again. I hadn't gained so much as a millimetre on arms, thighs or chest!!!! They were all exactly the same size that they started at. That was the story over the next 8 attempts!! NOTHING has ever worked. My muscles just don't respond to exercise by getting any bigger. I got stronger, up to a point, and my cardio improved, but that was it. So, can you offer any explanation as to what went wrong? Its been baffling me for most of my adult life. I was never tempted by steroids or growth hormone, but I can see why some people use them.

I took up weightlifting at age 65. One of the best decisions I have ever made. I will be 71 in 3 months. I can now deadlift 320, squat 360 and bench press 255. As you age your body naturally stops producing as much testosterone. My doctor recommended a testosterone cream which I apply topically. It is very common among older men and helps your libido as well. Many women take estrogen supplements for most of their lives. Eat more protein, take creatine and whey protein powder. Weight lifting makes denser, stronger bones, it protects your ligaments, tendon and joints. I work out 5 days a week for 2 hours a day. The key is to train a different muscle group each day...legs one day, back and shoulders another day, chest and arms another day...so you don't over stress and give your muscles a chance to grow. Another key is progressive overload. Keep increasing the weight. Go heavy. It really has become my passion...I have made a lot of friends and everyone is helpful at the gym. Some loss of height is inevitable but you can slow it down with muscle growth and posture correction. Bigger, wider shoulders and standing tall, not slumped, will make a big difference in your perceived height.
