I remember stumbling across Dylan's video when I was 15 It remains one of the best things that I've ever stumbled across. I was the same age as him at the time, struggling with the same issues. That's when I learnt how much easier it is to endure struggle when it is shared. Solidarity keeps us going where we otherwise would have stopped. I'm now also 18 and very happy. You don't know me - but thank-you so much Dylan and thank-you Depfox. If this was a movie I feel like this would be the part where I'd smile contentedly and fade away slowly into a golden mist :P
Wow! I am so happy for Dylan! This is my story as well. I started watching as a teen and became totally absorbed. You guys really have helped a lot of young gay men.
Thanks Guys, for bringing us a Dylan update (along with all the other great stuff you post). He was/is one of my heroes. His videos spoke straight to my heart. I still don't think he ever told us what happened when he came out to his sister, though. [He also posted an interesting blog about gay marriage when he was in Texas.] He is really looking great. I wish him all the best in college and life. Hope to see him on RUclips with his kids some day. btw - It was "ThatAwkwardOne1."
I can't believe i never saw this video until now, but I was honestly almost brought to tears watching this. Dylan completely changed my life not just through his videos, but how he would connect to people on a even more personal level through Skype and such. I am so glad to see that he is doing well. Thank you "gay family values" for everything you have done for people like Dylan and I over the years. I hope you don't hate me for the video response i made a while back about jodie foster ;) I love you guys
Wow. I actually found depfox through Dylan's video. I remember the night so well, the middle of August 2012. That night I watched Dylan's video and countless GFV depfox videos and it awakened something in me. For the first time I could imagine a happy future for myself as a gay man, with the prospect of a normal loving family, and for that reason I realized that I had to face up to and deal with my sexuality. It was like a mist coming down, realizing that I would have to face things which I had feared so much and the prospect of coming out was terrifying. The next year was very tough, coming to terms with my sexuality and mustering up the courage to tell people. The following February, I told someone I was gay for the first time. By summer 2013 I was coming out to all my friends and family, and reached a point of happiness and comfort in myself that I couldn't have imagined, both of which have continued to grow. It all began with watching Dylan's video followed by endless marathons of Bryan, Jay, Daniel and Selena's videos. I'm out, happy and so very grateful to you all for helping me realize something about myself that night, and helping me through the journey that has followed. Jay, Bryan, Daniel, Selena and Dylan, thanks so much. -Paul
***** Thank YOU guys. You're right about sharing our stories. I think I'll upload an update to my channel soon, it might spread some of the help I received. I've been meaning to but never made time, but if we share our stories we can help so much. Thanks again you guys.
Thanks for posting this. Bryan is right that we never know how many people we influence with online blogs or videos. Your videos and Dylan's are like stones thrown in the lake creating ripples that continue to reach out touching people long after the initial event. Thanks for you being you. All the best!
I found you years ago through Dylan, and man I wish I could express quite how much you've helped me! You have a beautiful family and we (as your viewers) are so lucky to be able to gain insight into your lives - you're such inspirations! Also thank you for giving us an update on ThatAwkwardOne01 :)
Wow..I remember Dylan!! Such a great young man... He has a great future ahead of him..you can just tell. Jay and Bryan..he is like a flower that you planted years ago. It is so cool to see that flower blooming...
Dylan, you have done so much good and have had a positive influence on guys your age with your life and video. Allow me to assure you as a Christian counselor and high school teacher since before you were born, you should never question the validity, honor, and morality of your homosexual orientation. Love is love and Jesus never taught anything except love and acceptance. Anything other than that is not Christian. Kudos to you, Dylan!
I remember Dylan's video, when I was his age in the early 1980 there is no way any kid would come out as gay. Great video here and thanks for the memories.
Thank You for sharing your Story Dylan you are doing well. excellent. Bryan and Jay thanks for having him on. Dylan thanks for being on the Gay Family Values Channel with Bryan and Jay. take care
wow - it was so great to see him, i always worried something bad had happened to him. his was one of my favorite channels back then but had never seen the video you showed so it was wonderful to see- thank you
Keep doing what you guys do....because you clearly do it very well! It should be enough that you are raising two amazing kids....and are/have fostered many more but knowing that your videos have impacted & strengthened vulnerable LGBT youth is the most incredible gift that you can give to the rest of the world. XO, Dennis
This brought a sting of threatened tears to my eyes. Thanks for your wonderful channel. And Dylan...rock on, kiddo. Now you can "step into your own skin", and get on with creating a wonderful life. :-)
Oh my goodness I didn't realize Dylan is from Idaho! I grew up in Boise 😁 I wish somebody like Jay and Bryan would've been around when I came out at 15! Glad to hear Dylan is doing so well now.
Wow, I had wondered for months what happened to Dylan. I used to watch his videos quite frequently, and found him to be a very personable, engaging, caring young man. It's nice to finally get an update and to see that he has become even more confident and secure in his sexual orientation. And it was also great to hear that he is helping a friend of his come-out of the closet too.
Wow this is so crazy because I have always wondered what happened and part of me was scared. I think I stumbled upon his video because at the time I was watching every single coming out video I could for hours a day. I have a terribly homophobic family and have tried to come out, but it always ends badly so I have to almost go back in the closet and say I was just confused. Watching videos helped me see that not all families are like this and that makes me happy. I was worried something bad happened like family wise, with his channel deleted I was so devastated lol! My mind just went wild but I'm so happy to see he's doing well. I had a group of RUclips inspirations at the time and both him and your channel were among them. I can't tell you how weird it is to hear from someone you thought you'd never see again. That's kind of the disconnect of the internet, anyways wish everyone the best!!
You have given the world a positive outlook and outcome to being gay, the proof was sitting in your dining room as a witness to a new history or chapter in LGBTQ life. As you probably know by now, there is another video making the rounds with a not such happy ending. Thank you for making a difference in all our lives.
YAY Dylan ! So proud of you ! and Gay Family Values, I truly respect and admire you both and appreciate all your video's, not that I watch them all nor comment on most I am watching ! :-) Thank you
That's a pretty neat interview! ...I hope he is having much success in college! Always wondered what happened to that kid.. well.. now all grown up! haha!
Great video. Glad to hear his story. Can anyone tell me the guy's name or RUclips channel that was his friend? Another young gay guy who started making videos about coming out to friends and family? I barely remember but I do remember him mentioning talking to Dylan a lot. Just wondering what happened to him. Thanks!
justdreaminvlog You might mean Chris (lifeasakid). He went to college last year and was posting occasionally on Twitter. He never seemed ready to really come out. Recently he took down his "gay" Twitter account - might have gone back in the closet altogether. I'd be interested if anyone knows. His RUclips videos were right up there with Dylan's.
When you all showed Dylan's video post when he was 15 about him becoming straight or he would seek therapy breaks my heart. Here you have a clearly intelligent young person who because he could not accept something as common as his being homosexual he thought he would need professional help, and this was only I guess a couple of years ago. It is so sad that his parents who judging by him are probably intelligent people also would not explain to him that being homosexual is no different than being left handed and even though there are people who do not accept him that they will accept him ( at that time), and more so he should know to accept himself like he now does.
I asked a question to my dad are you still in love with mum ... he replied no we sleep in separate beds/rooms now I find that sad I am also adopted so the effect isn't that great. You know boy's you must always work and keep the fire alive my parents are 60 ish but I cant understand why 2 people that have been together so long cant still keep the fire burning makes more sense to me that your children & you accomplishments must draw 2 people closer together. Always talk & compromise please for me and you ... find the common ground.
Hello guys, I was just wondering if you guys could track down Randy Phillips from the RUclips channel "areyousuprised" because he disappeared from the RUclipss and I miss his face. I curious as to why he stopped the RUclips thing. I would do this myself but I'm not from America and I sent him message via twitter with no replies. His coming out video was very heart felt and then his other RUclipss videos were very down to earth and real. I'm just curious as to what happen to him making videos.
