Thank you for another educational video. Sometimes while watching other instructional videos it’s easy to become overwhelmed. But your videos are both informative and enjoyable to watch as you share your enthusiasm for flying.
Couldn't agree with you more, i came here from another tut where he was speaking so fast and jumping all over the place, i came out with nothing but confusion, this guy though, so clean with his details, only tells you what you need to know
If you click "More" on the map screen, and then select "Open Filters", you can scroll down and turn on Navaids - this will add small dots at the end of any ILS enabled runway, which, if you click on them, will bring up the ILS frequency for that specific runway. Just saves you having to check any external websites!
You have seriously read my mind! where I am its the Australia Day holiday which Ive put aside to set up my Honeycomb peripherals and then relearn ILS landings! Impeccable timing! Ty for this.
I need to start at beginning of these back to basics this video would of helped me last night im getting back to vor flying and trying to find runway is crazy cause im having to look on littlenav map and it i dont think gives ils freqs so i end up in the round about forever
Finally some avionics I am familiar with, yeah I’m old lol and have not been able to stay current, so all that glass cockpit stuff took me a bit to get used to in msfs. One way to make it a bit easier is to fly the glide slope with mainly trim, small movements using trim until you have it steadied. With some older planes that also had rudder trim you could use trim for horizontal small movements in the yaw axis as well. I got to do this the first time in a T38 as a teen, I was a cadet in Civil Air Patrol which is The US Air Force auxiliary. Nice job as always 👍
As well as the excellent tutorial on manual ILS, as a rookie pilot I have learnt another valuable lesson. I was wondering why my plane was banking sharply to the left and then falling out of the sky after about 2 mins in the air. Then I remembered that when over 3,000 ft in a Cessna 152 you have to set the mixture to lean. After I did that I was able to make it to Denver in one piece!
Finally managed to get myself some time to copy your flight from Rocky Mountain to Denver using the ILS. Successfully completed the flight so thanks for the instructions. I didn't have quite so much luck trying myself to make the return flight though.. I got the ILS frequency for Rocky Mountain ok and entered it into nav1 fine before using the ATC to get myself taxi clearance to the runway (using the info from your ATC video (thanks again 👍) and took off. Unfortunately i think i must have got my directions confused and headed away from the destination airport and didn't realise for some time lol. Anyway, it was still a useful execercise in getting used to the various views, checking the instruments, more trim practice, etc. so all good. Definitely need to scrub up on my geography though doh!!
Managed to revisit the return journey from Denver to Rocky Mountain and after a bit of misdirection I realised my mistake, got back on route and successfully completed this leg of your tutorial journey. Great fun and maybe by the time the new version in 2028 comes out I'll have it off pat lol😂
Nice tutorial on flying the ILS frequency in the C152 (which has no autopilot)! I’ll try this in my C152 as well. The vertical level line should give you the optimal glide slope to the runway. I’m used to flying the ILS with autopilot in an Airbus A320.
Thanks H.. I find that using the trim to track the glideslope more accurately and then tweaks on the throttle to maintain desired IAS works better for me. Happy New Year !
What is especially helpful is to do these basics videos in the 'basic' plane using steam gauges. Then it's not a question of also learning how to operate a G1000 or similar, which adds to and confuses the learning. It also helps people who avoid glass cockpits because of various issues, one of which is being colour blind (that's me).
@Huddison, thanks for another crisp and excellent tutorial video! I really like the way you explain everything which is easy to comprehend and follow! I find it really susrprising that MS has not included in the SIM itself, the runway ILS frequencies of all airports that are equipped with the system?!
Thanks - I'm not aware that MSFS has done this, but there are 3rd party programs that you can run in conjunction with it on the PC version of MSFS, that will enable this.
@@Huddison I've been having a blast with the Hype Performance Group H145 helicopter for several weeks now. While it is still in Beta, it is very well implemented and it's very easy to handle.
Nice to instruct on manual flying without using Auto Pilot. Once you correct the plane with the ILS lateral position I always just using heading mode to keep it lined up, but not sure that is acceptable in real life? Keep up the great work and always enjoy your videos.

Amazing comment Roger - I do try to make my videos basic and easy to follow by all.

Excellent Dave - I'll be implementing that in these type of videos going forward 👍
You're assisting me in learning that VOR is effective in terms of ILS. Didn't know that. Thank you.
You're most welcome.

It must be providence ;) You're most welcome.

Navigraph is a great resource for ILS frequencies and the like; I have a few video on that.
Otherwise, our Discord is also a great source for help.
I'm brand new at this (and learning so much thanks to you) I always thought the instrument in question was just for VOR navigation. Wow... amazing!
Good stuff, very useful - thanks. A hands-on video like this beats theory lectures every time!
Many thanks Andy, much appreciated :)
Another brilliant tutorial with much good info and very well presented, thanks again.
Appreciated thanks ;)

Fantastic story Brian. The glass cockpits have their place, but there's nothing quite like flying the old school way ;)

Thank you so much, Mr. H. That was a real kick. I've long wished for a simple explanation on how to use the VOR signals in a practical way.
Most welcome Tom, more to come with VOR navigation.

Thank you for all your videos. When will you be reviewing the TCA Boeing Yoke, really looking forward to your review and setup.
Hi & thanks Jesse - I won't be purchasing/reviewing the TCA yoke, unless I get sent one for review.

Yes it's a very basic but effective skill set, to have in your back pocket.

Whatever gets you down in the way you prefer my friend ;)
You can get the ils frequencies using the world map, goto filters and turn on nav aids - then click the nav icon next to the runway on world map :)
Excellent, thanks 👍
Cool and informative video as always Mr Huddison. I really like your plane's color scheme, it's quite eye popping 😄.
It certainly is 😎😁

Really good as usual. Thank you!
My pleasure.
At the start of the video there you are icing up. 😂
You can do much the same in the 172 using the flight director. I like to call it chasing the bat lol.
Stay tuned Brian! 😎
Thank you for all of ur hard work make these very helpful videos! Do you think they will ever introduce helicopters in msfs 2020 console?
Thanks, yeah I reckon choppers will find their way onto the console versions of MSFS.

Use what ever facility is provided to you :)
Thanks, something new I learned, I thought there was always auto pilots.
Nooo, we learned hard-core back in the day ;)
Thank you
Most welcome.
